I did this flight, too back in 2012. It was my lifetime experience. First of all to fly with the Dash 7 and then having much more flights and time on board then expected. The flight from Subang to Tioman started in the morning and the plane was shortly before touch down on Tioman. Gear was out and the ride gt a bit bumpy. Pilots did the first go around. After cyceling for some minutes they did the second try, but this time they did the go around already much more early. After a third unsucessfull try we went to Johor Bahru for re-fueling. The pilots said, that the wind is to much from the back and it was over the limmits for a safe landing. After re-fueling we fleb back to Tioman and tryed this time 5 times to land, but ended up back for re-fueling in Johor Bahru. This time the Pilots offered that they will try a last time to land on Tioman, befor going back to Subang. All who don`t want to try could leave and go with the ferry. So we took off in the late afternoon for the last try but again it was not sucessfull. So we fley back to Subang were we just started several hours ago. On the next day Berjaya Air opperated an additional flight to Tioman, were we landed this time direkt in the first try. For me this was an unforgettable flight experince on the super rare Dash 7.

In high humidity that is condensation from the air conditioner because the water separator can not handle the moisture in the air. Happened all the time when I was a crewchief on C-130E in Panama.

Pernah kerja sebagai ground staff di Berjaya Air dalam tahun 96-97 (lupa).. time ni, airstrip ni belum extended lagi.. 1st time pergi Tioman, kena duduk jump seat sebab flight penuh.. tanya captain, "where's the airstrip?" Dia balas, "its over the hill" tapi sedang decending.. tiba-tiba flight pusing ke kanan dekat dengan pucuk 1 pokok kelapa, baru nampak airstrip.. duduk belakang pilot ni, lain macam.. saspen kejap.. - Captain Max Brunner dalam kenangan...

@Titanairways I'm not sure. This was off-season though. The hotel was equally empty.

Shame there’s not more flying around. And to think they used to fly into London City.🇬🇧

Great to see this island again. I was there in 1988 with just a dingy fisher boat making the crossing. Good times.

Is the Dash 7 considered a high performance airplane? Meaning, does it have a lot of power compared to it's weight due to having 4 turbo prop engines?
@crowd101110 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's a STOL-Airplane with amazing slow speed capabilities.
@sanfranciscobay10 жыл бұрын
crowd1011 Does the slow speed capabilities and STOL have to do with big wings, 4 propellers, or a lot of horsepower or all of the above...? Is this plane used to fly into and out of areas that most other planes cannot fly out of because it has 4 propellers?
@sanfranciscobay10 жыл бұрын
crowd1011 I was reading about the Dash 7 on Wikipedia and I think they said it was replaced by the Dash 8 which has larger but only 2 engines and this keeps the maintenance and purchase cost lower due to it only having 2 engines as compared to 4 engines of the Dash 7. Does a Dash 7 have a lot of power due to the fact that it has 4 engines as compared to a similar plane which may only have 2 but larger engines?
@crowd101110 жыл бұрын
SanFranciscoBay Well you can find the engine details in Wikipedia. The Dash-8-300 with 2 engines has actually more power than the Dash-7 with 4 engines. So, no, the number of engines is not the reason for the superior STOL-capabilities. It's rather the wing design.
@sanfranciscobay10 жыл бұрын
I guess it's the illusion that having 4 engines on a small commercial plane would mean it's a high powered machine. Maintaining 4 smaller engines is probably more expensive than maintaining 2 larger engines.

@coolio247186 жыл бұрын
Normally it will be full from KL to Tioman but going back to KL is not based on booking so flight need to get back to KL even lots of empty seats. I missed Tioman, place that i worked for almost 4 years! enjoy every bit of it :)
