I was just about to say the same thing this kind of stuff makes me sick it makes 0 sense that our community keeps letting this kind of thing happen we want others to do right by us and show us respect but we don't even have the courtesy to do the same for the next person in our community when it comes to life and death in our community it has to be a whole stupid process of snitch or no snitch but it's not a problem when it's someone of a different culture when we want to play the right and wrong card and the Justice card but I also believe it's our community responsibility to start taking accountability with how we deal with artists that are coming from our community yes when the artist makes it big obviously they're going to talk about their experiences but at what point do we as a community say that that's not who we are entirely it's a reality for a lot of us but it's not everything that there is to us the majority of us why we may have come up in those environments aren't out here banging and shooting folks and traveling and all that other mess when do we have the community draw the line and let these artists know that they need to clean it up at some point especially if they're going to be involving our community in their product but it's also on the artist to cut ties or make some distance with those who would hinder the progression or smear the hard work that's been done just for them to even have a seat at the table and have a chance to have a better life we can blame the record labels and the company's all we want to but they're merely providing the monetary advantage to make it still falls on the shoulder of the artist to make sure that they are being intentional and careful when they are just bringing folks along with them it's a sad thing to say but the trend continues to show itself with cases like this when you make it out stay out there is no entertainment there is no toleration it defeats the purpose of all your hard work because for all we know this very situation could have been avoided I'm going to make matters worse like you said in your statement a whole bunch of people were there and most of them didn't say a word which only proves that perhaps staying at home or just staying away. I agree accountability needs to be had on the professional side of things but I would also say having said all of that it's also on the artist to stop bringing an entertaining folks who aren't going to do the work or who haven't done the work too many times artists are just bringing Folks up blindly never considering that the person who may be their friend in that moment might be the person to put the coffin on them later but it's also our responsibility as a community to stop blaring the garbage that is being spewed from a lot of these artists today I feel like we blindly just support any artists just because of their skin is black and we don't stop to consider the repercussions of what they are saying in their music glorifying murder drugs and all that other stuff at the end of day our children have to hear it and so do our grandchildren it's not to say that the artist is wrong for speaking about their experience but at what point do we as a community draw the line and say that's enough there's more to us than that because there's more than enough evidence in today's world to prove that even if you are a person of color you absolutely can make it out and you absolutely can find success but it has to be you that makes the move and draw the lines and our community in my opinion has let a lot of things slide that shouldn't in this case a lot of our music and the artists who spew the lyrics need to be held accountable more than the labels do because at the end of the day money only magnifies and intensifies what was already there until the artist start holding themselves and those they bring with them accountable we can't expect anything from the other side this particular situation is something that we as a community have got to stop putting off as if it's always someone else's fault because it isn't this is the situation that calls for us to intervene not the next person the time of waiting for someone else to give a crap about us is over when there's a problem in our community that needs to be addressed we need to address it we can't keep asking folks for respect if we can't even show it to each other we can't keep asking other folks to do this and that and include us if we can't even do the same for each other I'm not saying don't show support I'm just saying don't do it blindly because situations like this could have very well been avoided for all we know
