This man. Gets up. Speaks calmly. Plays a little piano. Gives us some of that God-given vocal talent. Gets the spirit. Goes INSANE. Loses his natural mind. Preaches MLK. Tears the roof off the sucker. Concludes, and sits back down. Genius.

I’m about to wrap up a 40 year broadcast career here in a few years, and I’ve met a lot of really good artists, but without a doubt, my all time favorite was meeting Michael McDonald back in the spring of 1987. He was touring for vets with the Doobie Brothers, and Huey Lewis was his opening act. When I met him in the meet and greet line, my program director could see how much I enjoyed meeting him. He got us back to where the artists and crew were eating lunch. When I saw McDonald sitting and eating with his wife, my PD noticed and asked if I wanted to sit with them. I didn’t want to interrupt his time with his wife, but my PD was a bit braver than I was and asked if we could join them. He was very gracious and invited us to sit down. Both he and his wife were such kind people, sitting and talking with them both felt like just shooting the breeze with friends. Years later and the memories are fading, but I can guarantee that memory never will.
