Imagine, that dude got his arm broken by Danaher in that private lesson *that he paid for*. I was at Renzo's 112 West 27th street NYC academy and took the elevator ride from hell to the floor it was on (3rd, 5th, I can't remember) with Craig Kukuk for my first class. That class turned out to be Kukuk's last--they said he was going out for back surgery, but I later heard other stories--and from then on classes were taught by Matt and Nick Serra, and by Vinny and Mito (I think that's how to spell his name--it was pronounced "me toe"). Renzo stopped in occasionally on Saturdays, which was the no-gi day and the only day I could train there since I lived in Rhode Island and drove the six-plus hour round trip to make it. I remember rolling with him when he was preparing to fight Oleg Taktarov. Those were some fun times, and were the times when knowing BJJ felt like a real superpower because so few people knew it. For instance, I had a friend who was a state wrestling champ in RI, and he used to dominate me on the ground, but after a couple of months of training I would submit him all the time.
