While I was exploring US 50 through eastern Nevada, I decided to stop and take a scenic train ride on the historic Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, Nevada. There are a variety of different trains you can take, but this 90 minute steam locomotive took us west along US 50 and then south into the mountains. We went through a couple of tunnels and saw some abandoned mines along the way! Very cool and fun little trip!

I have did a cab ride of Nevada Northern 81 (Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1917) back in April 2023, it’s another beautiful steam locomotive.

This is beyond awesome. The thing about your videos is that the editing makes it feel like I am experiencing what you are experiencing. There is no filter between the person watching and the actual experience. Can't beat it.

This is smashing, I love historic local steam railways and they are always worth patronising if only to keep them open. Thank you for the glimpse into a totally different world John, we have a local historic steam railway near us and I found visiting there fascinating, incidentally, they always tried to recruit me as a volunteer when they found out that I restored classic motorcycles and particularly when they discovered I had a lathe.... an American lathe actually (A South Bend, which came here during the war on Lease Lend) and that I could turn stuff like engine components for 20's and 30's motorbikes. Once again, thank you John.

Oh how great this one was. This ride brought back some memories of my childhood, when my Mother and I would take a train from Kansas City Mo to Parsons Ks to visit family. I loved hearing the train whistle and the clicky clack of the train wheels. Thank you for the memories. Happy trails to you and God bless.

You sly rascal you! I was talking about the Virginia Railroad at Virginia City after your Virginia City video. And you were sitting on this one! And recently you have been jumping back and forth with the subject and area of each video keeping us off balanced. I am loving it! I am a motorhead that loves the sounds of all power producing motors. And steam power is no exception. A steam locomotive on a pull lets you know that work is being done. Another great video! Keep up the good work!

If you liked the Nevada Northern, then you would really like the Durango Silverton Narrow gauge ride in Durango, CO. It is an all day ride. We've ridden it three times. The Chama/Antonito ride in Chama NM is also good. Have fun.

Another great video! I have seen the museum/ shop on various videos but this is the first video that I’ve found that shows the excursion. I was curious on how the engine was handled on the return trip. Sometimes with various excursion railroads (especially if there is only one track), the engine pulls on the way out & pushes in the way back (like at Strasburg PA) but other trains do a Y or a run by where it disconnects from the front end & then reconnects on the back end so that it pulls the cars both on the way out & back. I’d would have enjoyed seeing how this railroad handled the turn. Keep up the good work.
@TravelwithaWiseguy
@TravelwithaWiseguy 9 ай бұрын
They did a Y on the turnaround. I couldn’t get a very good angle to show that while on the train, and actually I didn’t realize what they were doing when they did it haha.
