Simple if you don't have the cash don't live the lifestyle. And if you do have the cash remember you might have to make it last 10 to 15 years... that $20K 4 week overseas holiday at 65 + 1 month could be very expensive in the long run.

Aus super is better from a tax perspective. I left mine there. KiwiSaver needs a higher employer contribution too, NZ is behind the times. Concerning for young people

Tax advantages on Aussie Super also, but I agree that the contribution rates aren't high enough in NZ, my employer does a 4% match and the math doesn't work out for a very glamorous retirement, I feel for those out there who have an employer who will only match the 3% minimum.

Kiwisaver taxes unrealized capital gains. SNP500 can outperform Kiwisaver easily.

Even with employer contributions and govt contribution?

Outside of the minimum 3% contribution rate that nets you the extra 3% from your employer & your $521/yr government contribution, you are totally right. I dropped from 10% - 3% contribution rate after that realization. The rest is better off in Sharsies.
