When you cut off the basal plate, the bulb then reminded me of the waxed anarylis bulb I had last year. After it bloomed and flower was done and stem cut off...I peeled off the wax. Then potted up the bulb as usual. Let the leaves continue. Had pot in sun all summer outside, watering along with my other container plants. Then brought it in for dormancy in late summer. Just took it back out (following your schedule, THANK YOU). It has a ton of healthy roots now. And I hadn't dipped it in rooting hormone either. (Next time I will follow that suggestion). Will see if it blooms this year. Thank you for all your information.

This is very helpful information and thanks for the calendar! My leaves always start flopping about the time it blooms. Now I know it’s probably because I keep them too warm when they are growing.

You are so helpful. I repotted my 3 amaryllis bulbs last weekend with the guidance of your schedule. I did an extra new step of soaking only the roots in water for 24 hours before repotting in new potting mix. I had heard that is useful. Will see. I did get the fertilizer you mentioned and will use that weekly as you suggest. Fingers crossed. Thank you so much for your demnstrations and advice. So helpful.

Thank you for another very informative video! I just bought two new bulbs this week and have not watered them yet. I will check out their roots first to make sure the basal plate is “healthy”. UPDATE: Oh my word! So glad I checked my new bulbs. The basal plate on one of them is close to 1/2” thick and it has only ONE root!

Thanks for the video. I just put mine in dormancy last weekend because we have had such a long and unseasonably warm autumn. I prefer for them to bloom in January/February when the days are short and gloomy. And I'm going to pull them out and check for the basal plate. I had not idea to check on that. We learn something new everyday!

Loved the video, thank you so much! I have an amaryllis that has been growing and flowering now for approx 13 years. It created a pup last year, which I severed from the parent plant but it has not grown. It is still healthy, but it did not put on any girth to the bulb nor did it leaf out. I put it into dormancy with its mother and just took them both out. I would love to hear of your experience with this. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the first video and this one too! I saved my plant all year as it was a pretty house plant so your first video came at just the right time to let it rest . Now I took it out and started it a couple weeks ago and it’s growing nicely! I’m so excited because I have been buying amaryllis for many years but always started with a new bulb every year. In this new video you mention giving it fertilizer, I will do that too! One question it seems like it’s giving me a lot of leaves but no flower tip yet, anything I can do it help it along? Thanks again!❤

Don't throw the cut basal plate away. You can grow it, and it will sprout many new baby bulbs.

Would love some info on how to know what is red blotch as compared to just normal reddish areas on some of my bulbs. Also, is there anyway to treat red blotch or is the only solution to dispose of that lovely bulb. 😥
@ydoyougarden
@ydoyougarden Ай бұрын
Red blotch is difficult to treat, the fungicide is expensive and hard to find. When I get red blotch I just discard the bulb

My amaryllis bulb has been in dormant conditions for months but it's still putting up some foliage. Should I keep it in dormant conditions until all the green growth stops?

Did you try to get your husband to help you make a fun skit for this video dressed up in masks, gloves, etc and you, the surgeon saying “kitchen knife”….”alcohol”….”stand back.” 😊Since it is sometimes customary to take flowers to someone who just had surgery….I think you should get yourself a new amaryllis! Thank you for these great tips. Last year my 6 amaryllis did not bloom yet they grew beautifully green stems this past summer. I JUST last week repotted them but after seeing this I am going to pull them out and check to see if I need to “doctor them up” and cut the basil plate. Looking forward to seeing yours bloom and seeing your Christmas decor! Last year’s was fun to watch!
