Hello Mark, that was interesting. If I were ever to buy a vintage set, now I know how to check the date of the razor blades. I am always fascinated with history and the history of razors is no exception. Best wishes and blessings to you and yours.

Thanks Mark. I can’t believe the blades are still blue after all these years. I watched your vid because I wanted to re-use an old dispenser loading new blades in it as opposed to the current wrapped blades in the plastic tuck.
@FriendshipShaving Жыл бұрын
I'm very glad it was useful. Re-using the dispenser with some modern blades is a great idea. It would be really nice to make a retro designed modern version, exactly for that purpose but one that came apart much more easily. All the best.

Hi Mark, Dr. Doug Exeter here in Geneva. We're having a little trouble with the Large Hadron Collider at the moment. There's some sort of anomaly emanating from the interocitor. Any chance you could pop over and to see if you can disassemble it for us please? We'll pay the air fare and for any shaving equipment you may need for the job. Thanks! Doug

Hi Mark- Great tutorial on the Gillette blade dispensers; thank you! This is a very interesting sub-set, almost, to Gillette historical information, to delve into the dating of blades, type of dispensers, etc.! Great stuff! Be safe and be well, my friend!

Hello Mark. I'm new to your videos, but can relate to your relaxed approach to shaving. You do what you do as and when you choose and I like that way of thinking. Nothing need be rushed. All should be enjoyed.The "race" is only with yourself in life should you wish to "keep up" with idiots and make the same mistakes as millions before us.. As you say- "Don't Worry- Everything's Fine". When you believe it to be, it is so. It really is. So please carry on being You please. Thank you

Welcome aboard! And, that you for your fabulous comment. I really believe that taking a little time, now and again, and putting small moments of relaxation and enjoyment into your day really affect your quality of life, for the better. That is certainly the case for me. I'll carry on. All the very best and I love your dog. Cheers

I would like to get both like yourself. The made in America and made in England pack. Can you get the blades back in once you take them out?
@FriendshipShaving3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, Greg. So long as you're careful the dispenser fits right back together.
@mikewhiskey723 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks for all your videos. I am after the same dispenser which you have shared in this video is the 1956 one, do you know where I might be able to get one? Did the pack it came in indicate a dispenser was enclosed? I hope you don't mind the questions. Thanks in advance for your help. Marcus
@FriendshipShaving3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcus. The only suggestion I have is to look online, which is what I do, eBay or Etsy are my usual places or join a vintage Gillette shaving group on Facebook or a forum, The Shave Den is a good place, and ask there. Someone may have a spare. I hope that helps. Cheers.

Hello Mark, thanks for putting up this video. I'm interested to know where do I find out about date codes for razors/blades?

Have a look at the Mr. Razor website. It is a fabulous resource, not only for razors, but for the blades and advertising. The gentleman's collection is incredible too. mr-razor.com/

Thanks for the lesson. Very interesting demonstration. I assume one could reuse the dispenser. BTW, have you ever shaved with one of those old blades?
@FriendshipShaving4 жыл бұрын
Oh, yes you can definitely re-use the dispenser. I was thinking about that as I was doing the video. It's definitely a different shave to the modern blades. I might do it again soon, Bart.

I just bought a Gillette nickel plated Superspeed with the notched t-bar (1947-?) it came with the exact same blade dispenser you have. It looks like the blade says O1 or U-1 on the blades itself? My first vintage razor ever for $20 and it came with a military issued case that has an eagle with an American flag on his belly… interesting part when I open the case it says *Gem clog proof* inside… I think it was an every ready single blade razor case Edit: upon further research the case was an American military issued WWII micromatic single edge. Has an eagle on the front with an American flag on the belly of the eagle?! I got all this for $20 and even though I can’t read the dates as they look rubbed off. I kept pulling blades out (thinking I can put the blades back) and accidentally put one in the back disposal part🤦🏻 I think maybe these blades were used and the code was rubbed off? It looks like an U-1 or O-1 or J-1…
@FriendshipShaving3 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. The Gem Clogproof (military issue) sounds very interesting. I have just been on eBay scrolling though to see if there was one; there wasn't, but I shall keep looking. $20 is a great deal. I like the Gem bullet tip, too. That is a really nice shave.
@greg61623 жыл бұрын
@@FriendshipShaving yes it’s very interesting I think I seen the case attached to the *micromatic* razor? I’m not sure but it’s definitely military issue and it almost looks like they spelled it wrong, it says *Gem clog pruf*?

Mark, Very informative, Your British made 1956 super speed set looks to be in perfect condition. I’m wondering, what the patent diagrams for the Gillette super speed looked like . I can’t get excited about a cartridge razor but for a one piece pristine safety razor? Yes.
