The author does like to kzbin.infoUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

A simple way to keep track of your parts bin contents is to hot glue an example of each screw, nut, washer or bolt to the front of the drawer. I did that in my old shop, and it worked pretty well
@FearsomeWarrior Жыл бұрын
The way I consolidated floor space tools and stands was by making everything as small as it could be while still providing support for things. Table saw, miter saw need some arms. Lathe, bandsaw, drill press don’t need as much. Even when everything has wheels it does not mean it fixes the space in your shop. Sometimes a disc sander or something else has to go under something else. Even if it requires me to move it to use it. For me it’s two stationary sanders that go above my lathe. It’s basically a cabinet top but with a still/chair kind of thing I can set the sadness on top of. If you don’t use miter saw a ton it’s another good candidate to go under/over another tool. It’s also amazing if you can corral tools tightly that aren’t in use. Basically making them a raft but you have to pull a cart out to use the tool on it. Win/lose compromises for space. Can’t wait to see how you pull it off. Especially what ends up under any assembly table/work surfaces.

All of us buy things from the hardware store only to find out we already had it, and find stuff in our shops we forgot we even had. The small parts drawers were a cool design, but acrylic fronts might work better, although it won’t look nearly as nice. Building wood storage on the ceiling is a good idea to save wall space. I was going to build a platform that I could raise and lower from the ceiling as I planned to use it for sheet goods, as well as dimensional lumber, so it has to raise and lower. I planned to use a small electric winch or even a block & tackle set up, but I never got around to building it, at least not yet. Not sure if you’re planning to make changes to your multipurpose workbench as it’s is a great design, and really the best thing for the size of your shop. You could put your tools on flip carts and store them along the walls, and hang a folding workbench/assembly table on the wall which would simply fold down and roll it where you wanted it, but doubt that would give you any additional space. I recently saw a guy in England build his shop in a shed by using every bit of space he could. He had to use the table saw, miter saw and planer outside the shed where he had a tarp overhead to protect him from the rain, which they get a lot. He put his projects together in his living room. Goes to show you that no matter the size of somebody’s shop, you can build just about anything. Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

Ron Paulk and ShopNation, two American woodshop KZbin channels, have interesting takes on space-efficient workbenches. Ron's made several portable workbenches, which are easily collapsed and stored for transit to remote job-sites. He also developed a rolling cart system to attach to the Paulk SmartBenches for easily moving within his woodshop. Shop Nation developed at least three in-shop workbenches. His original workbench was large, similar in size (probably heavier) to the large workbench you just retired. He also developed smaller medium-size and small workbenches that a similar in form to your retired workbench, but much more compact. I have also seen at least one channel, maybe two or more, that developed modular workbenches. So there are many possibilities already on KZbin. Good luck finding your own special solution. Today's video, BTW, was interesting because you showed your current woodshop space in varying stages of its development. That paint job really brightened that little space.

this looks like a good set of videos coming. And, yes, baby boy projects are fine. On thing you can do for fitting additional equipment in, and set things up where something may be back to back, but where you access it, one tool is not in the way of the other. Example of a lathe, set it against the wall, and to the right put you bandsaw. You stand in front of your lathe, the bandsaw is not in the way, turn to the right and you are in front of the working area of the bandsaw. You see the left side of the bandsaw is wasted space so you can block it with the lathe. Take a look at A Cut Above Woodworking on KZbin. As you look at his shop smaller than yours, you can see how he has equipment next to equipment. Perect example is what is to the left and right of his tablesaw, which is a SawStop a full size saw. But he has access to everything. And back in 2019 he did a workshop walkthrough, you can see each piece of equipment.

You and I have very similar size workspaces, mine is a UK single car garage. I'm looking forward to the new bench videos along with the layout. In my shop I have an MFT style bench for layout, assembly and track saw station etc. A Sjobergs woodworking bench, a small cabinet saw, a 10" bandsaw, full size planer/Thicknesser (in the UK sense of the words), router table, Mitre saw cart, 3 dust extractors and wood storage. I'll be very interested to see how you design your shop, particularly if you include a lathe as I don't have space at the moment for one and would dearly love one. Oh, and congratulations on the new family member.

Your original design inspired me to make mine. And then I decided to make it 2 4x4 foot sections. Then when I got my Laguna cabinet saw I gave the half of the bench with the built in DeWalt saw to my friend. Then expanded my original 4x4 by just under 2 feet meaning I have a total combined 4x6 and I'm never lacking for space under or on top and it acts as outfeed for the cabinet saw. Still have to get my scissor lift for my mitre saw into the bench (inspired funny enough by your scissor lift build). So excited to see what's coming in 2023 and congratulations on your new family expansion!

I'm excited! Oh, about the drop down shelf. I built one for my shop and I think I came up with a pretty good idea for it. I used a cable with a pinch lock that slides down with the shelf, this allows you to lower the shelf part of the way if you want. I like it because I can keep handy tools in the bottom drawer and just reach up & grab them as I need them with no need to lower the whole thing everytime. It might work for you too

As much as I like your designs - especially the overhead storage and bench - it's inspiring to see you step back and honestly evaluate the whole situation. I work in a corner of a garage and I've been stuck with where things are and how to keep tools and lumber.
