Does anyone else ever think about the evolution of the presence of a song in your life? The first time you heard it all the way to your present day? Sometimes i think about listening to this when I was 14, depressed and lost and now sometimes I listen to it driving around with my husband and my two year old son and the whole journey just makes me want to cry my eyes out.

awesome times...i was a freshman in high school, life was just starting. Shit was so exciting and i had no idea how good i had it. I wish i knew in the moment that those would be the best years of my life. I thought things would be the best in my early twenties when i was working hard and had a lot of money to buy anything i wanted. But that didnt bring me the happiness that high school wrestling success did, drinking on the weekends, hooking up with the girl you're crushing on and texting all week leading up to the friday night house parties, seeing all your friends everyday in a place that you all hated but still liked being just because we were all there, driving my 1965 red Chevy Impala with dual exhaust and headers into the parking lot in the morning and everybody knowing i was there because it was so loud....ohh man, the memories, i'd literally give anything to go back. and imagine going back with the knowledge that you have now? pshttttt, that would be amazing. i could die happy if i got to go back and live 10 years of high school over again. Its crazy how music can trigger those nostalgic memories like that. Really wild how these songs are the soundtrack to my high school life. TBS, Fall Out Boy, Brand New, Panic at the disco, All American Rejects, Zebrahead, Offspring. I could listen to a playlist for the rest of my life and never get bored, if it had every song released by those 7 bands
@RoninDays9 жыл бұрын
Bbfishman Bro, life is what you make of it. Sounds like you stopped making goals for yourself or maybe you stopped dreaming. Happens to most of us at some point. BTW, in my experience, when I listen to songs I had on heavy play during times of my life, I not only get the memories, it's almost like I'm transformed into that state. Music is magic man.

Omg 😭😩 I have not listened to this song I think since I had sang my heart out to it when I was a teen. Though I’ve forever always remembered my favorite line in all music, “you could slit my throat, and with my one last gasping breath I’d apologize for bleeding on your shirt.” That’s stuck with me, for all the loyalty I’ve had for the men that never deserved me. 🩵 thank you for creating this masterpiece even all these years later.
@James-gf2ph10 ай бұрын
For sure. Was one of the first songs heard by them, on a burned CD a guy I had a crush on gave me. Having just got out of an abusive first love relationship, that line seared my soul at the time, and made me realize that there were men out there that felt like I did. I realized had been wasting my time on undeserving aholes.

Sooo do you guys think this stuff sounds old to the newer emo generation? The breakout emo from the early 2000's is so much better than the shit now. Can't believe it was so long ago - and we were just getting phones that could take pictures and video worth like 10 seconds. If you were lucky you snapped a quick picture with your flip phone. *large exasperated sigh*

most emo bands people consider as "emo" aren't emo at all right now, they're mostly just mainstreams bands of glam metal, post-hardcore and other derivatives that endorse the "scene" look and ignorant people then try to classify them as "emo" when their music is half-assed garbage targeted at angst-filled teens that of which draws less and less on being emotional and more blindly aggressive, whiny and dumbfoundedly simple who haven't met midwest bands as with also the early 2000 pop punk emo bands: the emo revival scene is where the truest forms of emo right now are being made
@RoninDays9 жыл бұрын
madinsomaniac The sad thing is that a ton of emo bands sold out early part of the century so the genre does get a bit muddied bc of this. RIP to all of them. Hope that one major album was worth sitting at home instead of having a cult following.
@madinsomaniac9 жыл бұрын
nakamine1713 yeah that's the sad part about that also, as emo entered into the mainstream more and more, creativity to progress the label/term/genre just dissipated I guess and then suddenly it just died and vanished around the middle of the 2000s, it then became a stupid culture/trendy ignorant word; the emo of yesteryear was gone for the most part and a new AF, promise ring, mineral, texas is the reason... etc was nowhere to be found unless you looked deep just into the underground, though still it latched on to some pop punk bands it only served to be more of an aesthetic to bands rather than a true definition of music. Brand new still is good though as a semi-mainstream emo band and its good to see them to have that kind of success considering what sells right now

nostalgia exists, and a lot of times it is an important emotional aspect, but it shouldn't rule things as much as it does. if i hear a song, and i like it enough to watch the music video, it stays with me as part of my musical identity, and the band that plays it will always be a part of my musical consciousness. a song may get old if i listen to it twenty times back to back, but it never gets old in the long run. in that sense, all the music i like from the classical composers, to 1940's big band, to the music scenes of the 90's, 00's, to whatever latest release catches my attention, it all feels contemporary to me no matter how much time has passed. i remember when i bought Yellowcard's Ocean Avenue cd. i hadn't heard any of their stuff in longer than i'd realized and the nostalgia hit pretty hard, but after that it wore off and didn't matter as much anymore. that's the benefit of living in the time period that we do right now, after the fact. we can appreciate the scene as it used to be, but keep enjoying the music itself as it will always be.
