Pit maintenance is important. We're going to season up the pit for the first time with some beef fat to give it a good coat.

I never thought of using tallow on the outside I do inside once in awhile. You put out really easy to enjoy videos. Thanks again for all your videos. I recently smoked 80 lbs of pork hocks for my butcher one thing I traded for was 15lbs of beef fat and some pork butts. I'll try this on the outside of my smoker. 🇨🇦🍻🥓

You should go to Harbor Freight and get one of those 10’x 16” carport. It’s like $200 and I’m pretty sure it would work great to cover your smoker from the elements.

Thanks for answering my question 🙏🏾 “I know the dummest question is the one you don’t ask” If I had a pit built, a 1000 Gallon Pit with to slightly smaller 🔥 FireBoxes on both end would that give Optimally Evan heat balance with the smokestacks in the center? Obviously 🙄 looks won’t matter

Uhhh.... probably not. It would probably make your pit more uneven and shrink down the amount of space you have to cook.

New to the channel. Awesome videos. I’m thinking about getting a 500 gallon primitive pit with a semi insulated firebox. I was wondering how you like your pit. And would you recommend it over any other pet you could think of? Thanks for the advice.

Any info on your channel about who made the pit and what it cost? Just curious to know what getting something like this looks like financially and logistically. Did you provide the fabricator with plans or did you go with something they "had on hand"?
@jamesgunn5358
@jamesgunn5358 2 жыл бұрын
You may have figured this out already, but the maker is Primitive Pits out of Georgia. Not sure what the 1000 costs but as of 11/2021 their 250 starts around $5k and their 500 around $6.3k.

Hey Joe, what are the advantages and disadvantages of a insulated firebox vs a non insulated firebox?
@knoxavebbq
@knoxavebbq 4 жыл бұрын
just like most of my answers, this is purely preference. my smoker has a semi insulated. it's just what i'm used to. ones that are fully insulated, in my experience, makes it hard a little more touchy. there tends to be more dramatic heat spikes, and when it gets to hot it stays hot. which isn't a bad thing. that's why some ppl prefer them, but i like the ability to build a bigger fire to get more coal, instead of maintaining from a smaller fire. but if you're cooking in majority very cold weather i would probably go fully insulated.

Hey, Joe. I'm hoping you can help me out with the situation I'm in. I recently purchased a 250-gallon offset Smoker. Performs well, maintains even temperature from end-to-end.however I'm not getting nearly the amount of smoke that I was getting when I was using my much smaller, Old country BBQ pits Pecos. I'm using the same type of wood, cooking the exact same way. I've even tried cooking with the baffle almost completely closed. I have noticed that my Smoke stack is shorter compared to other smokestacks on the same size smoker. And your experience, would a smokestack that is too short calls the meat to not get enough smoke? Thanks

Unfortunately my pit is really close to the a wall and I think it’s affecting the airflow, so oddly I have a cool spot in the middle. But if it was positioned probably I believe it would be. It’s a great pit.
