We're still celebrating at our house:) We wait to put up our decorations and the tree until Gaudete Sunday (the third Sunday of Advent). Nothing gets put away until after Epiphany. It's probably not the popular way but am trying hard to keep the Twelve Days of Christmas with Christmas Day being the first day.

That's a great tradition, I like it!

In Puerto Rico, we follow the same tradition. The Twelfth Day is our special day - known as Three Kings’ Day. The night before children will leave out hay for the camels in either a pair of shoes or a shoebox. In turn, the Kings will leave the children gifts! FYI - many also celebrate Christmas Eve, and gifts are opened at midnight 😊.

January and February are two of my favorite months of the year….look up the concept ‘Hygge’……it is a mindset embracing the Winter season and enjoying the darker, slower, cozier side of life. I look forward to getting my Hygge on after the hustle and bustle of Christmas. I keep all my generic snow themed decor up through February…….lets get COZY and enjoy it 👍🏻👍🏻

@OldWorldHome Same. I'm not a winter person and all and January and February seem like they are SO LONG. I try to tackle inside home projects if finances allow to keep my hands busy. :)

I keep everything up until mid January, then transition the tree to Valentine’s Day for February. I always reorganize and purge when putting things away. Over the years, I’ve developed a system that works so well for organizing seasonal decor. I have two leather hassocks in the living room that house all the ornaments year round. It works so well because I don’t have to haul extra bins upstairs. Similarly, I have three wooden trunks downstairs that house all my downstairs decor and ornaments. Everything is hidden but the pieces function as furniture all year.

Love getting the house back together after the holidays! Although I do leave the Nativity scene up until January 6th. Hillary, have you ever thought of having one of your weekly or daily as kind of a virtual Book Club? That would be so much fun. You could select the book and those of us who wanted, could read it during the month or whatever and comment in it… just a thought!

I started taking down my Christmas decor, inside and out, yesterday on the first. A couple of weeks ago we hugely decluttered our storage room, and I too will be sorting through the Christmas decor , intentionally getting rid of as much as I can that I didn't use this Christmas. I love my home decorated for the holidays, and am a bit sad when taking it down, but I also love the fresh feeling after when our home is back to normal. I do try to change a few things up to start the new year. Happy New Year 🥰🏜🌞❄☃💗✝

My husband works a lot of holidays - they're just another day in his workweek in law enforcement. I have gotten very used to it and spent New Year's Day putting most of the Christmas decor away. This year I left a few things out (I thought I would start a new habit of leaving the nativity until Jan 6th) while the pork and sauerkraut cooked. Does anyone else eat pork and sauerkraut for New Year's?
@imahick57232 күн бұрын
We do! I tried a new recipe that calls for adding a chopped onion, two bay leaves and a sliced Apple to the casserole while cooking. At the end of the cooking I collected about a half a cup of the juices and added two heaping two spoons of brown sugar. I added the mixture and stirred well. My family was surprised that we weren't having sour meat and enjoy the flavorful meal more. I served it over mashed potatoes and applesauce as a side Happy New Year!

I get so upset that I am not exactly sure what is where. Thanks to you, I AM going to get organized this yr. Time to let go of what didn't get used for sure.

As I edited and downsized my Christmas items a bit each year over the past several years, the best feeling was combining and emptying out one of my Christmas totes. THAT was a great decision. I plan to keep it up each year. My children are now young adults, and I don't need it all.

It's a great idea to pack Christmas decor for each room. Your Christmas Planners, do you include your Christmas Card from this year also; since you do a photo card? When you were growing up, did your family take down the tree and pack items away before New Year's? Just curious if you follow your family traditions. I follow mine, nothing gets taken down till the day after New Years. TY
@OldWorldHome2 күн бұрын
I do save our photo cards, and growing up my family never even decorated the tree until Christmas Eve night, so it stayed up almost all of January ☺️
@lindaroyal8161Күн бұрын
@@OldWorldHome - That's different to do the tree the night before. It's all about traditions and what you grew up with. I still have many that I only do during this time but they are fond memories of my grandparents that raised me. The only time we ever got chocolate covered cherries was at Christmas time and my grandma always had fruit cake. I hated fruit cake when I was a kid but now it's also part of my traditions and egg nog! I love your channel, one of my favorites and was happy to see a Vlog-uary!

I haven’t found a good system (for me) for packing up decor; I’ve tried doing it by room or by item and I end up with half-full totes and needing room for items that don’t fit into those categories and then I end up shoving things into whatever tote they end up fitting in. 😫
