Swimming with sprint laps really helps keep my endurance top notch, my legs don't gas. Short fins are great to build endurance!! It's very intimidating to start judo later in life. I'm 53, 14 years of jiu jitsu and I've competed a lot, it's still hard to train with the younger teens and 20 year olds however, I do get better faster when I train with teen national champions. Now, get the courage to compete.Great podcast!!

I just want to be good at the most useful techniques and tactics ... Two on one. Cross grips... Leg moves.. stuff that isn't in "modern format"...😢. Thanks for keeping these techniques alive

Dr mike Israetel has some great videos about how to structure your weight lifting programs alongside grappling. I recommend watching it!

Im the exact demographic that this video is for. Starting judo at 22 eith minimal wrestling experience prior and I dont care too much about belt promotion but rather just beating people.

I'm 56 and returning to the dojo after 30 years. I think it would be stupid of me to compete and risk a crippling injury while my goal is to get back in shape and be able to win against multiple attackers like the ones who shot my daughter. I would not call myself a 'Hobbyist".

Competing in the masters brackets is a good way to compete with people your age. I wouldn’t recommend you getting hurt going against younger guys. Just remember. This is a COMBAT sport. Getting hurt isn’t the point, but injury is inherent to our sport.
