I think Toga's major hang up is more the dehumanization of villains, it's less about killing and more about what she perceived as a double standard. She feels like heroes claim to save people, but then won't save anyone they perceive as bad. Her logic IS flawed, but she's also not 100% sane so that makes sense

The "logic" isn't really flawed at all because part of the critic of MHA hero society is a critic of Japan's penal system for how harsh and black and white it is. Heroes save those who are willing to be saved and don't bother trying to save those who are "villains". This is a theme that goes way back to how Gran Torino talks about Shiguraki when they find out his lineage and is a driving force for Izuku and Ochaco's personal paths as heroes.

@@In-The-Zone of course, that part isn't flawed at all, the flaw in her logic comes a lot more from her lack of accountability for crimes. She can't even begin to understand why the heroes might've killed Jin, and feels personally betrayed at Ochako's anger towards her, as if her and her friends have done nothing wrong. And that's all because she's got some fucked up mental issues, but I feel like a lot of people I see watching and talking about this scene aren't understanding that part lol

*I do think Toga has a point with how villains are treated. I don’t think she’s completely right of course, but then IS a double standard with how villains can be treated regardless of circumstance. I do think people like her are owed some kind of compensation from society since it helped make them who they are, although it’s obviously more complicated than that what with them killing people and all.*

Ok setting aside the absolute INSANITY that is the AFO/OFA conflict, there’s still a giant mammoth sprinting across the entire country leaving a literal canyon in his wake. (Splitting Machia field and AFS conflict. This is the Machia side) With Machia on the way we need to mobilize as many heroes as possible for bigger evacuations it’s the best they can do because quite frankly the Nomu are just WAY too big of threats for most heroes. But not to worry, we have…Toga’s Mini-Me, Family Guy’s Chicken pretending to be a Blue Jay Superhero, one of the Thundercats but with bull horns instead of cat ears, another hero that reminds me of Daft Punk, the living incarnation of what I imagine my uncle will do in a midlife crisis, (the hoverboard hero in an overcoat and Lucious locks) there’s a girl who removed her legs to be a half rocket from…Mario Party 8, the Thing going through the trash compactor from Monster’s Inc, and other characters that look like redrawing of 8-bit or 16 bit games. Horikoshi never change putting the WEIRDEST designs in stills like this. Still makes me laugh through MVA. Iida, Nejire, and 2 silver surfer references head for the AFS field in hope to get more info moving. And the supervisor hero just gave up. Iida will not let anything happen to those that saved him from the Stain incident. Good callback. Uraraka is just realizing now with her motivations getting realigned from the Overhaul raid, nothing has gotten better. Each catastrophe in this show has lead to further WORSE incidents. The kids are doing their best but their efforts just never appear to make the difference they hope to make in any aftermath. Machia has literally made the generals sit in stunned silence when they find out he’s running 100 kmh. (62 mph) MANY are faster but he’s making a CANYON as he runs. Dabi wants Skeptic to finish his assignment and Compress wants to check up on Toga after what went down with Twice. None of them can turn back and the UA kids she’s fond of are in just as much danger as every other pro. But Toga is just elsewhere. Twice was among the most harmless of the League and only meant well for his friends. Surely the heroes knew that and yet they killed him. When is someone beyond being saved? When are they no longer under the umbrella of protection? (Pondering this genuinely as we see the city being ripped to shreds by Machia is amusing but also sad that she doesn’t really see this. Toga is a walking contradiction in most cases) Uraraka and Deku are pretty good people to ask about the subject as they on their own have bigger hearts than most of the cast combined. So while her obsession guides her to them, it is a good thing she thinks of these two in particular. The more damage Machia does the more the heroes just have to adapt their evacuation. I’m pretty sure that 1st batch of designs can all be found somewhere in Teen Titans including a DEFINITE Robin reference. One guy is just riding a rocket and we even just have a Walrus in overalls carrying kids. Once Skeptic is looking at the Hospital heroes who likely retreated to get people further away from the battlefield, it’s essentially over. There’s Uraraka and Tsu. And Toga has to go talk to them even willing to jump off Machia’s protection to go do so. Compress doesn’t want her going anywhere so they can keep her safe, Dabi is only worried about what his next big move is and forces Skeptic to get back to work, and Spinner just lets her go. Sure we want you safe but we can’t stop you. We just want to do what we want. So we gotta let you do what you want too. Spinner knows that Toga’s mindset just goes where it goes. And just asks her to come back. Toga at least smiles like she intends to do that. But she’s off. Uraraka and Tsu are hyper focused on saving civilians and Uraraka even gets to use her new boots with propulsion (I know she had these way sooner in the show even if this is her 1st time using them. But she does still have WAY too much aerial control that those boots just don’t make up for how crazy she can get with her gravity rules she breaks) and she has much more control with her grapples too. She reacted FAST to stop the flying Machia debris. Uraraka has a BIT too much tunnel vision and doesn’t think twice to ask for backup as she’s literally lead into a dark alleyway by an INCREDIBLY athletic old lady. And it’s no wonder she couldn’t keep up. It’s Toga who is ready to have a talk. You might think it’s stupid she went in with no backup, but having Toga go ELSEWHERE during this catastrophe is way worse because that puts way more people in danger and a lot of people can be hurt or even killed before she can make her report to the pros. Uraraka gets tackled and pinned by Toga and she’s just doing everything she can from getting severely wounded. Toga wants to ask if Uraraka sees her as person that can be saved or under the umbrella of protection the heroes provide others. Not only is that an INCREDIBLY weird question no context, but to Uraraka that’s just even stranger she came all this way, killed an old lady all to ask what do you want to do with me. Uraraka wants to save EVERYONE she can, and Toga is an obstacle to accomplish that. So Uraraka has made her decision. She wants to fight Toga to the fullest. And we are left there for next episode. Now I can ASSUME there might be a tad bit of hype for this upcoming episode. So we’ll get to THAT hype next time.

I couldn't watch this on Friday cuz I had work in morning to 5pm then I ate dinner then watched the new MHA: You're Next movie. Tis was great. Oh, Montana, Montana, Montana. Be careful watch you speak into existence. AFO is trying to take over Shigaraki's body. Meanwhile in the vestige realm, Deku be like "Where's Kacchan?" He got really mad when AFO said Bakugo sacrificing himself was useless. Also Midoriya is seeing how AFO is hurting Shigaraki. Dabi's Dance will be GREAT! I'm so excited for the beans to be spilled. I don't think Toga is killing people for fun. She sees covering people in blood is how she can show love. She is only one year older Class A. Her childhood is so sad and we can see how her perception is skewed and how she needed help not to be pushed down. She's my second favorite and will defend her!!

A lore episode about OFA and AFO? I’m made for this. (I’m going to split the Machia field and the AFS field. This is the AFS encounter) So last time Bakugo got impaled saving Deku from his own self destruction by getting inbetween him and AFS. Thankfully it looks like all 4 spots he was punctured appear to be nonlethal. If I’m being generous he got hit in his shoulder, leg, around the waist and HOPEFULLY the appendix. Those are still exposed wounds in a field it’s just best stay airborne and at the force of an AFO hit. Having him and Endeavor no longer able to support as fried as AFS IS right now is an incredibly large issue. But with Todoroki there, 1st aid can be done. Not that it doesn’t make Deku just SNAP. AFO is just a professional taunter and starts tearing down Deku’s walls like he did for All-Might. And LIKE All-Might he finds particular glee in devaluing the efforts of those close to the OFA wielder or in Deku’s case, LITERALLY ANYONE. And AFO already knows Deku is willing to break protocol, orders, and nearly EVERY RULE to save Bakugo at Kamino. So that’s an exploit. And with that taunting on him Deku just seemed like he needed the EXACT right moment to let loose. There wasn’t an INSTANT AFS let loose any attack Deku just JUMPED forward. He wanted to get in AFS’ face to NEVER downplay the value of someone. And ESPECIALLY calling Bakugo of all people a wasteful loss. While Deku still highly regards Bakugo as someone who will NEVER give up trying to win. And I know MANY people will say Deku goes super saiyan here as he sees…green. (Deku is so pure of heart he sees the exact opposite of seeing red) Side note about this huge rush. I see this A LOT about this scene specifically. We gotta be careful when comparing Deku and Goku. Because…they aren’t anywhere close to the same person, and yet somehow Deku always has the expectation and the hype to BE Goku in every scene he’s in. Which gets Deku in a lot of hate for….not being Goku. I say this with full knowledge that everything I’ve built up regarding OFA is literally leading to a super saiyan boost being whatever conditions need to be met for Deku to match EVERY quirk of AFO simultaneously having to be the same power All-Might lost 6 years ago when he fell to 1/60th of his power. Unknown, unseen, but the scars remain of what it caused. Just a thought. Ok Deku you may continue to bite AFS’s giant finger blades like a sane member of society. AFS WANTED Deku to lose his cool and try and make it personal. Deku has been pretty smart about when and where to get up close, but Deku COMPLETELY misjudged the scenario. This isn’t a death match like All-Might vs AFO. AFO isn’t attacking for fun or because it’s what’s holding him back like Shigaraki. He wants you ALIVE. And AFS is tailor designed to steal OFA. And the tug of war begins with Deku’s glowing armor and eyes losing its light. He has him. Now it’s gotta go internal to get out of this. We enter in what is from what I can tell a time pocket. When Deku spoke to Daigoro Banjo about Blackwhip, literal seconds passed over a several minute conversation. In this case the tug of war just stops ANYTHING from happening outside this cacophony of strong wills from within. It’s all that matters as the entire planet is on THIS thread of a tightrope. Deku now has much more of his body showing and he basically stands in this realm as the last line of defense. AFS just has to get past HIS will and it’s over. OFA in the hands of AFS is several times more powerful with its quirk boosting capabilities combining. And even though Shigaraki is trying EVERYTHING to regain control of his body, he still walks forward for his own reasons. He’s in clear pain, and AFO is just enjoying this. I’m betting in any previous attempt to steal OFA, AFO maybe saw this realm for a few seconds in THIS realm’s time. And here he is getting to walk and talk in it. And worse? Deku can’t even so much as stand on his feet even with his vestige taking 45% shape. The conditions for Deku could NOT be worse as he’s forced to just watch with no knowledge how to defend himself here. It’s a good thing we’re in the avatar state, and Deku DESPERATELY needs some help from the past. And who hear’s his call but the vestige that wants to talk to Deku the most since this past episode. And none more personally involved. Nana Shimura immediately comforts Deku that despite that she knows he can’t stand up AND she can’t use any energy to stand him up, just says brace yourself, but we’re here for you as she goes and confronts the man that murdered her in cold blood, AND her grandchild that she is watching her killer try to actively infect. Nana isn’t a strike first kind of person and just quietly listens to AFO as he is just in WONDERMENT of the inner world of OFA. Happy to talk about his research with Dr Garaki, his dreams and speculations regarding transference with his own power. And he also talks about quirk holders that can haunt him from beyond. Heck with the details he gives of that, these phantom souls he speaks of align with all the information we know about quirk recoils. It’s minimal, a quirk raging at him in his sleep as a nightmare that he feels drawn to release. Like a strange overstrain that makes you want to calm your body down. I laughed in the sub when he points at Nana and says “Hey look a dead person!” Deku and AFO are taking in everything they can because this is the best opportunity to confirm suspicions and find something new to win over the situation…but Nana and Shigaraki are just looking at each other. For Deku and Shigaraki, they JUST uncovered one of the bloodiest aspects of the history in this conflict. Shigaraki likely just put together why AFO found and chose HIM, and Deku is properly hearing what Gran Torino and All-Might wanted him NOWHERE NEAR. All-Might NEVER spoke of Nana to Deku until after he started awakening quirks. All he knows about Nana is her hairstyle is like his mom’s and a number of the ins and outs of her quirk that All-Might…had an entire lesson plan for conditioning him for. And now here Deku is seeing a family reunion that made All-Might freeze in terror at the potential of consequences. AFO ripped apart EVERYTHING in these people’s lives to take it for himself, and Shigaraki who even KNOWING AFO wants to use him still hates every conceivable facet of his family. And Nana is the one that paved the road to that house of horrors. Accidentally or on purpose. And he STILL wants OFA for himself regardless of circumstance. And even when he’s trying to tear it back, he’s trying to overcome AFO simultaneously. Sadly AFO is unbothered. I can only assume Nana didn’t fair too well if a vestige battle occurred in her era for AFO to be so insulting of her. Clearly she left a PRETTY hefty impact regardless like any OFA wielder would. She’s not smiling like she advised All-Might to demonstrate her strength. And it’s all she can do to keep anything from advancing further. So the next most willing to speak holder walks forth. And I can tell AFO is EXTREMELY happy to see his brother. This stops being a lesson. AFO wants to speak to HIM. AFO wants to stoke the fire to encourage his side while breaking OFA’s will to resist. And he targets his brother and Deku SPECIFICALLY. I BURIED these wielders. Your legacy has fallen time and time again. You CHOOSE? Look at what is left. A child on the ground who doesn’t have a MODICUM of what I respected of All-Might regardless of their personalities being similar. He is WORTHLESS. And OFA the 1st brings it out of the impossible. So we’ve all died. But we’ve stayed together. We found our footing. We CHOSE our successors as of late. Nana CHOSE All-Might and All-Might CHOSE Deku. No emergency, they saw what was best for this power. And he is what keeps this conflict going. We all need willpower to keep this going, and BOY does he have it in spades. But he shows it for OTHERS. He gives and he gives, and he NEVER stops. You take and you take and that makes this UNIMAGINABLE. You can’t even tell what he IS. He’s the best thing for this power and we’ll stand by that decision. All 8 of us. And Deku does the impossible to prove the 1st correct. He stands in a world he can’t walk in and LEAPS. He finds his voice in a world with no mouth and SHOUTS. And in a world where he is about 1/300th of his opponents strength all quirks combined that have a tailor made weapon to stop him for what he controls? Musters the will to overcome ALL OF IT. And shoves away AFS. Breaking the attempt, and maintaining his hold. He is more selfless than Shigaraki is selfish. One For All lives on.

@@HaydrogenBombYeah that moment AFO stops smiling as Deku stands up is one of my favorite moments in that conflict. AFO acts like he has the whole world figured out with only minor missteps with all his experiences over the last 200 years. But OFA has confused him this ENTIRE TIME. No matter the holder they always have something that flies in the face of his understanding of the world. And Deku forcing him out in THOSE conditions has to be one of the single most confusing things to happen to the big man himself. Makes Deku all the more fantastic of a person. To AFO he’s worthless. But in reality he is the equivalent of dividing by zero in AFO’s head. FINALLY got the other part out.

I can't help but kind of despise what AFO does to Shigiraki here, and not just for the reasons in-show. They did SUCH a good job of developing Shigiraki into his own main villain, with him coming into his own in season five and being an absolute FORCE OF DESTRUCTION after waking up this season. Then, All For One brings all that momentum and development to a SCREECHING HALT, and it just rubs me the wrong way, as Shigiraki is NEVER this cool again.

No she couldn't. He is WAAAAAAY too large and heavy. Quirks aren't rule free magic spells, they're MUSCLES. That's why they need to train them so hard. Uravity's quirk has limits, and one of those limits is mass. Gigantomachia is well over the limits Uravity currently has. There's not really ANY hero in all of Japan that can stop Gigantomachia. Well..... Not physically.

I might be alone in thinking this, but I can't help but feel that Shigiraki is effectively RUINED by the developments this season. They did SUCH a good job of building him up to be his own villain, with Shigiraki coming into his won at the end of season five and him being a complete DEMON once he wakes up in season six. Then, AFO bringa all hype development and momentum tona SCEECHING HALT, and it's kind of infuriating, as Shigiraki is never this cool again.

What do you mean? Tomura is still his own person, he's always been defined by how other people treat him. He's never been able to become his own person. Now that he seemingly can be, it's revealed to just be ANOTHER person that wants to control him, this time to the utmost by literally stealing his entire body. Tomura's story has been a non-stop struggle from the very beginning and you're raging like a baby because it's still that way? Grow up, character development doesn't function in one dimension.

She doesn't see it that way. Her story isn't about seeing that murdering people is ok. It's about how her mind is so fucked up she sees murdering people as just an expression of her love, and love is a wonderful thing, THEREFORE murdering people should be a thing she's allowed to do. She's kinda like an inverted sociopath which is incredibly interesting to delve into. The heroes her as a crazy murderer, which she is, but she sees herself as a young girl in love and then she sees the heroes trying to put a stop to her which is crazy because why would they try to stamp out pure love? So she puts herself against the heroes and then Stain comes along and resonates with her as she's thinking "Well yeah, heroes try to ruin my love story, so obviously they must be fake heroes." The machinations of her mind are incredibly fascinating and so far it's really just Uravity that's getting to know what makes Toga tick. Learning her motivations and what's driving her, and learning those things is VERY important to stopping someone whose entire toolkit revolves around not getting caught. I'm VERY interested to see how this resolves, and I'm banking on it being more geared towards empathy and emotional resonance than just punching her in the face. As opposed to All for One, for example, whom should promptly be punched in the face. Hopefully a lot.

Its literally a lose lose situation with her, and I never understood people's fascination with her character. Its quite literally the consequences of their own actions coming back to them and she acts surprised???

@@spooked1938 it's because you can't fathom someone thinking fundamentally different from you, so you just write your position off as being obvious and don't even attempt to look at it from differing perspectives. In other words, you're ignoring the fact Toga is mentally ill and just declaring she should be sane therefore her character is not interesting.

No matter what answer she's given to her question she won't be happy, cause she doesn't care about the answer, she just wants to do what she feels like without any consequences. Honestly a ton of the villains were annoying in this way

Kinda bittersweet for me, I have enjoyed rewatching with you guys. However, been super excited to finally get to the 6th and final season, but after next season I'm prolly not gonna be back.. 😭 not watching anything I'm interested in rewatching. I think it's also worth noting that when most heroes kill and particularly with twice's death it wasn't even killing as justice or something for his crimes like "killing someone because they killed people" it was killing as self defense from hawks on the behalf of all the future victims if Twice continued to resist and help the league, if Twice had cooperated he would not have been killed just for his actions, even All for One wasn't executed and he's done way worse. Most heroes when they end up killing someone it's because they feel backed into a corner and they can't seem to just subdue someone so they have to make the calculation between letting them go because they've already established they can't capture them, the villain is resisting too much and is too strong, but if they let them go then innocent people are pretty much guaranteed to be hurt, or they can take a shot and go for the kill and is commitment to non-killing more important than the lives that will be affected by them being unable to stop the villain.
