The refresh was mainly because the m3-7y30 CPU they originally used was discontinued. Other small pc's that also used that chip like the latte panda also switched to the 8100y cpu. Performance-wise, it's essentially the same as the m3 cpu, so it's not really a major upgrade

@blastofo4 жыл бұрын
Sly2Cooper It can. Watch the video reviews for them. Witcher 3 got a patch last month that boosted performance. The Switch can accomplish this because its Nvidia gpu is like one you would find in an entry level gaming laptop, instead of their own proprietary gpu. Its why the Switch has 2,000 games. But what matters is the games not the graphics. People with $2,000 gaming PC’s play Undertale and Hotline Miami. You cant play your smartphone games on a TV. A smartphone doesnt have the AAA console games, and a gaming laptop doesn’t have the portability or price of the switch.

Really have hope that in next years GPD Win handhelds will become cheaper (or maybe there will be some reasonable alternatives? not counting infamous Smash-Z and PGS), because (IMO) there is nothing better than handheld which can deal with both DOS and Windows games. Possibility to play on the go in such games as Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Missionforce: Cyberstorm, Age of Wonders and many, many more is priceless.

Out of all of the gaming handhelds that have ever existed in all of gaming history, the GPD Win 2 has been my favorite handheld to use while I’d be gaming on the go. And for what I loved about the GPD Win 2 best, while I can still be there to play all of my favorite games that have ever been released on either the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Nintendo 64, the GameCube, the original PlayStation, the Sega Genesis and the Sega DreamCast as well as the Game Boy, the Game Boy Color, the Game Boy Advance and the PSP as well as stream my PlayStation 4 whenever I can get Internet, I can also be there to play some of my favorite PlayStation 2 games in general, including those that sadly never saw neither a PlayStation 4 rerelease, a GameCube port nor a DreamCast port like Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith as well as some that I may want to mod to create bigger and better experiences for people like myself like Kingdom Hearts II and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but that can all depend on your taste in nostalgia in general. I would also consider using my GPD Win 2 to play all of my favorite classic PC games in which I have nostalgic memories for in which sadly still never get to see any mobile ports of some sort, even up to this day. And when regarding the different PC games that I’ve played on there so far, there have been some I’ve played where I may get a black screen while running certain PC games in particular. However, other PC games that I’ve played have ran flawlessly. However as much as I would consider using a GPD Win 2 for gaming on the go aside from the Nintendo Switch, gaming wouldn’t be the only thing that I would consider doing on the GPD Win 2 at all. I would also consider using a GPD Win 2 for running certain apps in which I sadly cannot do on neither an iOS nor on an Android device. Like for example, I would also consider using a GPD Win 2 to arrange music on Sibelius. And whenever I feel ready to do so, I would also consider using a GPD Win 2 to do game designing on the go whenever I’m not home or at the very least I’m unable to use my MacBook Pro to do game designing. And when being very honest on what game designing software I’d use to make my dream game, after hearing good things about it, I just knew that I may want to use Unreal Engine for that.

I didn't know I could just copy the entire XTU Manager to get more slots. My 3ds profile is 8.5/8.5 -50/-50. Any undervolt higher than that and the app would crash playing Pokemon Ultra. I generally love your videos, but in regard to this device in particular I was honestly hoping for something more. :( This device seems amazing, but no one is covering what I want to see running on the thing. Libretro cores like Beetle_Saturn, or the Hardware accelerated PSX core. I think I saw Rogue Squadron running, but what was that running on? Mupen-Next? ParaLLEl? I'm also really curious about this storage. You mention it has an M2 drive and a 2GB slot. "2GB"? Really? What would be a solution for getting some 'real' space on the thing? I just have so many questions still about this thing.
@TakiUdon4 жыл бұрын
Come on, the 2gb thing was obviously a mistake. If you're aware of the power it takes to run ParaLLE, then you'll know why people don't bother trying to run that type of stuff on this device.
@retropulse034 жыл бұрын
@@TakiUdon Oh, I didn't realize it was a mistake at all. Was it supposed to be like 256Gb? That'd be a little bit better, but still. ParaLLEl doesn't seem like it takes an absurd amount of power, it runs on my dinky i5 just fine anyway. Even so Mupen-Next has surpassed all it's features recently and I've always felt it runs better but it's not like I can lookup sys-req for these things. "you'll know why people don't bother trying to run that type of stuff on this device." I don't understand that... at all... honestly. I mean, isn't that the entire point of having a device like this? To play - as you put it yourself - "40 years of gaming in the palm of your hand"? You seem defensive, so I'm sorry if I'm coming off like a dick. I'm not trying to be. I'm honestly curious about these things.
@howardoh4 жыл бұрын
@@retropulse03 I feel the gpd win 2 really shines as a Steam/gog/epic gaming machine, also for remote play for ps4. I think you can expand storage to like 2TB. Personally I have a 512gb micro sd card to go with the internal 128gb M2 drive of storage on mine. You can replace both the sd card and the internal drive. I can play Street Fighter V, Dead or Alive 5 last round, Tomb Raider 2013 natively on it and using PS4 remote play I can play Horizon Zero dawn or Death Stranding or spider man so long as my internet connection is good enough. I think retro gaming actually requires even more power than normal games when you try to emulate anything relatively recent (emulation of a system takes way more power than the original system), so this machine is better at running native steam games, I personally don't use it to emulate but I realise many people do.
@retropulse034 жыл бұрын
@@howardoh Yeah generally speaking, it's all CPU when it comes to emulation. Some of the recent systems being emulated like X360 or Wii U sort of break that mold, but the performance of a single thread on a CPU is 'usually' going to be what any given retro-emulator pulls all it's performance from. Which is obviously vastly different from modern PC games. Then of course that depends not just on the power of the original machine relative to your current specs, but how well an emulator works as well, which also can vary depending on the original system's architecture. Which is why it takes more power to run Sega Saturn than it does Dreamcast, for example - and ultimately why I'm curious to see if this device is capable of running something like Beetle_Saturn or Mupen-Next or PSX_HW, etc etc. 2TB?? I didn't even think they made cards that big.

One more thing that isn't mentioned, which is a knock to its built quality. GPD has yet to get the hinge right in any one of its products, and it will be an issue with the Win Max. More often than not, it will *always* be too tight. You'll need to pop open the back plate to loosen the hinge, or the plastic *will* break eventually.

@Wisky Mo - If they could use a version similar to the Ryzen 4000 laptop chips, they could get away with it. www.amd.com/en/products/ryzen-processors-laptop If you look at those, they have 8c/8t and 6c/12t with a Default TDP at 15W They even have the Ryzen 7 4800U which is 8c/16T, also at 15W. Now, the base clock is 1.8 GHz, but for a portable device, this is pretty high. That lower usage, probably combined with a larger 5,000 to 10,000 mAh battery, will give it pretty good battery life.

Yober Where does all the heat go now? If you have a low power equivalent of the 4000 series, you can actually use a higher power draw CPU vs Intel’s CPUs since AMD is a node ahead at the moment. So there’s a chance that you could have a 25W limit and it only puts out as much heat as a 15W unit, which is what this currently is from what I can tell.
