There's a great lesson to be learned here. Whenever someone says something that sounds like disrespect to you, before you act, ask them to clarify what they mean. Just straight up ask: "What do you mean by that?" It helps avoid situations like these where there's a misunderstanding, but it's also quite powerful when someone actually is being disrespectful!

As someone who's neurodivergent, this hits particularly close for me. I can see myself having made a comment like that. To say a fraction of a thought in my head and cut myself off because I know no one actually wants the long story, then have what I said misinterpreted. Some of the best people in my life are the ones who take that moment. Who think "he didn't mean that, what DID he mean?" I've also been that person for others, and there's no better feeling than to have someone say to you "you didn't react like people would normally react, thank you for letting me be myself"
@breezeh1127

I think Boy George didn't know how to respond when he then said "I do" and the kid didn't react. I don't think the kid knew how to react, but to Bot George it might have seemed like "I'm not interested in changing my piano to anything else" Hence the comment about going with Delta..the piano person.

@@blackoak4978My husband and my children are all neuro diverse. Autists. I totally agree. Being artistic/gifted in music, he may well also be a bit on the spectrum. It's hard for him but also hard for others who never interact with those in the spectrum. I can see both sides here. I don't don't thus kid meant anything but I doubt Boy George has had much interaction with the neurodiverse.

I think that ( being a street performer ) he meant , in his experience ( on the streets ) no one cares about the guitar. There are a LOT of people that play guitar so because of the competition, it prob seems people don't care about the guitar. Its so easy to say 'No one' instead of 'Most people' .. not sure why George took it so personal.

I took Daniel saying no one cares about him playing guitar in relation to his busking, like he gets a greater response and creates more of an emotional connection if he plays piano as opposed to playing the guitar. Idk…but what I do know is Boy George made this about himself and not Daniel. Very unprofessional.

What I love about this kid is that he is GENUINE. The artist wasn't making the comment in the way that George took it. The kid was nervous and simply said what he knew to be true. He is confident in his talents and true to himself. No one really cares if he plays a different instrument. At the same time, George asked because he did care. George has to be willing to accept the talent as it comes and work to bring out the best in each contestant. He might simply ask if a contestant plays any other instruments.

I think George took it as being dismissive. The first time I saw the show. I knew George would have a hard time building his team. His outward appearance is part of singer’s decision and not what he is saying. He’s being frustrated and angry no one wants to be on his team. Walking out was not professional and has a effect on the singer’s confidence

My take was George misunderstood and though a contestant had just told him he had asked a dumb question as opposed to what I think was the actual intent of saying his guitar playing doesn't cause much excitement or engaement. Boy George made himself look very very small in that moment. You could tell that all of his thought processes were centered around himself and not the contestant. The contestant was not trying to insult Boy George or minimize the importance of being on his team, he was simply saying that in his experience people did not respond well to him while he played a guitar. Boy George acted foolishly here. I am embarrassed for him.

He says "No one cares if I play guitar" after stating that he can play it. As if defending why he didn't play guitar when he knows how to play it. The reason I say this is because of his intonation. Flat, no emotional inflection when making that comment. Most "artiste" should have some regret NOT being able to engage the audience when playing a guitar. On a side note, totally going to Google George's acceptance rate and why it apparently is low? Is it only because Australian youth think he is a has been? Is Guy Ritchie a superstar in Australia? Internationally, he is just meh. Never heard of the girl, unless that one is Kylie Rowland. A girl band right?

You are forgetting that George allowed that initial interaction to slide by… But then he said “I care!“ And Daniel continue to ignore him, and the rest of the judges also joined in on downplaying what George had to offer. I do not blame George for walking out. I don’t think I would have walked out then again, I don’t know. But I definitely think that Danniel was being dismissive to Boy George and that was disrespectful. He could have explained what he meant by that, instead of leaving it uncomfortably in the air without any follow up the way that he did. I don’t think Boy George is throwing a tantrum, I think Boy George was upset at the level of disrespect and excused himself before he said, some thing that he might regret. Sometimes when you get angry or hurt, it is better to remove yourself from the situation so that you don’t get combative because I know I would’ve been tempted to.

When Boy George asked him if he played guitar, and Daniel said he can, but instead of leaving it at that, he added that no one really cares. As he didn't elaborate on why he thought this way, I think Boy George was looking for some feedback from Daniel, on why he thought this way, when he said, "I do!" The boy is nervous, he's in a stressful situation and as Boy George pointed out, he was more confident behind the piano, but when he stepped out in front, he was more nervous. I think Boy George was expecting too much from Daniel, and as B. G. still had no one on his team, he was a little uptight himself and felt it as a sort of snub to him when he got no reply. He didn't think the child was rude it was the comment that the lady with the baseball bats legs and the prick face had made Boy George had nothing to do with that she sat there and try to make a fool out of my man Boy George Boy George is nobody's fool his mama did not raise him like that why don't you try going back and looking at that segment again and again again maybe you'll get it cuz right now you're not connecting to any type of logical source.

It was George who was rude!!! The young man needed encouragement and someone to listen to him...not a coach taking a hissy fit...I'm so disappointed in Boy George's reaction ...I believe this young man will go very far!!!

He’s saying the guitar is not his strong point, and doesn’t get the reaction that he does when he plays the piano. He was being honest. How that could be misconstrued is baffling.

Im a 50-year musican, and i play everything. It's all about the music. Nothing else matters but the music. If i asked the same question and got the same answer, i wouldn't want the kid on my team either. Young people dont understand respect, not only for George, but for the opportunity. That was disrespectful and shows his commitment to music. Had he said, i play guitar but I'm not ready to show it, or im not good enough, or passionate about it, that's different, that's honest. He was dismissive of the question. His voice is suited to guitar, that's why he asked the question. I don't expect any of the commenters to understand this comment, but musicians will. That's all that really matters. For the musicians, I don't play to the crowd, and i don't for them, I play for myself and let them listen. I can tell you 1500 stories in a song and not one of them be true, and still be honest with the music.
