Hiyas Mike, A dear, longtime friend of mine; recently gifted me a box of old pipes. One of them was a Longchamp. I was very pleasantly surprised to see it in the box. The leather wrapping was pretty abused but the stem was in good shape. Fortunately, the stitching was intact. I was able to buff up the stem and re-white the rider on the horse logo. It's a great smoker. My, those canoe paddles are works of art. Serene smokes & KPO Gary

Hi Gary They are nice pipes. I took this one everywhere as a teen. The paddles are very nice with all the different woods they use. Thanks so much my friend KPO Mike

I love the look of those paddles I love woodwork, and that is a very nice canoe. You have you talking about the elderly gentleman you know as a child made me Rein about a elderly gentleman I knew as a child

Great memories, Mike. My first pipe, back in 1966, was leather-wrapped. Back then, they were as cheap as a bare pipe. Then, they became popular and more expensive. Thanks for the memories. I had no idea that canoe paddles could be so involved. 💨💨
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
Thanks Bob. Who knows what he paid for them. I still have the 7 day case

Well one things for sure you'll never be up a creek without a paddle! Gotta love leather wrapped pipes. I need to smoke mine more often!
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
Haha. Let’s hope not :0) ha! I really like the leather wrap pipes. I just wish my dad didn’t break the tips of the stems. I need those rubber bits on the end in order to smoke the other 2 now and it’s just not what I like

I love hearing about "old timers" taking the time to talk and share their stories with the younger generation. I think it can be such a wonderful and long lasting memory for both the audience and the story teller. Thanks for sharing.
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
I fully agree. I used to love seeing those old ww2 vets and asking them about what happened etc etc. I just wish I remembered more

Thanks for sharing your love for canoeing with us- never known someone into that. The paddles are beautiful. Very cool about the pipe your dad gave you. I wish I had my Dad’s old pipe. FYI- looks like I won’t be able to make it to Chicago after all. I was going to join my buddy on his business trip but that isn’t going to work out. Stay warm in that chilly weather- I’m sure a pipe in the snug helps you do just that. Cheers, mate!
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
Oh no. Sorry about Chicago. Oh I’m a huge canoe nut from way back. I love canoeing. Cheers Christian. Mike

That's a funny coincidence that you were talking about the memories tied to pipes. I made a video today where i mentioned that subject. Maybe it's the time of year that brings the past to mind. Dont know if ill post it or not. Pretty boring on the re-watch 😂. Those are nice paddles! Two of my paddles i carved. One from suger maple and the other from pople. I'd like to make one from black spruce if i ever find one straight enough without too many knots. My canoe was smashed several months ago. Farm accident. Its an odd thing to be a man without a canoe in the north country. Ive had that canoe for 21 years. An old town pack. Ill be looking for one next year. My paddles survived unscathed fortunately. Take care
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
Hey TD Oh please post it. I was only on there earlier tonight seeing if you posted a new one. I love canoes. Life’s too short not to have one. Ha! That’s terrible yours got smashed up. If you need help finding one let me know. Cheers my friend Mike

I also started smoking a pipe at the age of seventeen. I bought my first pipe GBD,from a pipe shop located on Hollywood bulivard, long disappeared. My second one was a leather wrapped bent shaped. I'm seventy now, but I still have the GBD billard shape over fifty years years. now. I put it on layaway and made ten dollars payments a week. Lost the leather one long ago,but still s.oke the billard once and a while to remind ofmy teen years. They were great times.

I was 16 when i had my first pipe. I no thats not good now a days lol. But im 60, back then it wasnt looked upon as badly. It was my grandfathers dr. Grabow pipe. If i close my eyes i can still smell the Borkum Riff cherry lol. That was the tobacco you could get at the time in the 70s here. Even after all these years, a nice pipe and tobacco is something i enjoy very much. Again, great chat today

Hey thanks so much for sharing your memories. That sounds great. I know. Now days they’d lock you up if you gave a 15-16 year old a pipe. Ha. Great memories. Cheers my friend Mike

I have the same pipe gifted to me when I was 15 from my dad. I am now 69 years old. Pipe smoker for 54 years. My dad is 93 and in a restaurant home. I used to walk 4 miles each way to the Tinder box to get tobacco at 15 years old. They didn’t check I. D’s as much back then .

That’s so neat. Well I could just drive up as there was a native smoke shop that was a drive up near me. You are lucky to still have your dad. Cheers my friend. Thanks so much for the memories Mike

Morning Mike. Beautiful paddles. I like the otter tail. What situation would you use that one instead of a bent? Love the pipe story. Cheers 🍻
@oldmanthingspipesАй бұрын
Hi Gary If you are crossing a long deep lake you would use the otter tail. It goes deeper and with the length moves more water. With it being skinny it helps you push the water easier. Thanks so much my friend Mike
