Күн бұрын

Throughout Earth's history, thescelosaurs were small herbivorous dinosaurs. In Kaimere it was much the same, until fifteen million years ago most large dinosaurs went extinct. In the known world, a clade of thescelosaurs got enormous and are today the most abundant and diverse clade of dinosaurs.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

Had to do a double take when I realized there was a video out on a Monday. Jugashen is a living version of one of my worst fears: glowing eyed, can’t hear it coming, human hunting, nocturnal predator that just snatches you up and you’re just gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if the smaller burrowing forms made cute prairie dog sounds.

Small Ornithischians, or “Hypsilophodonts” in the days of old, are easily my favorite dinosaurs! They’re surprisingly disparate and diverse if you take your time to pay attention and the complexity of their evolutionary history makes them more fascinating to read about than most other groups. And of course they’re complex and diverse, they basically were found on every continent from the start of the Jurassic to end of the Cretaceous! A successful bauplan indeed.

your Dinosaurs are always so unique, I love the idea of dinosaurs being domesticated, especially with the Zaydi filling a similar role to sheep or small dogs. The megafaunal thescelosaurs are also all very cool, and I like the Jugashen’s human like hair, it’s very uncanny. The builder Drake is also very unique.

I do love tiny Ornithopods, and the surprising diversity they almost secretly hold (and also that we finally got a lot of that reflected in Kaimere), but I feel like they kinda lose a lot of that identity once they grow too big. Hadrosauroid and Ceratopsians are really weird and have their own identities, but I feel like the larger Drakes in Kaimere suffer a bit from feeling pretty similar to a lot of other Kaimeran Fauna while not sharing all too many interesting traits between themselves. Sloths have their weird gait, their digging, their ability to rear up and their propensity towards beligerence. Titanosaurs have their size, their ability to reshape ecosystems around them, and their unique armor coverings. Robust monarchs have the Tyrannosaurian growth stages, their lavish manes, and their insistence on wrestling everything to death shaping the response behaviors of their prey species in interesting ways. Thescelosaurs are, at least in my eyes, the fourth group of animals who consistently produce notable Megafauna, but their lack of shared identity just kinda makes them feel out of place to me. I guess they sort of mirror the general "If a niche to grow enormous is available to you, you go ahead and take it" approach that applies to other Kaimeran groups developing large genera, but I mean, for all that Thescelosaurs do deserve more love, I feel like there were more interesting options available for that role. I guess if they're meant to just be generic dinosaurs that sometimes produce interesting species, they're serviceable, but I feel like there could have been more. Be it either some shared anatomical quirk in most of the Megafaunal clademembers, or a larger emphasis on traits present in the smaller basal members getting to shape and recontextualize the behavior of more derived ones. Still, however, good work as always.

While on my Skull Archipelago there are still great hadrosaurs that are the most common herbivores on the land, I am now planning on an increased variety of thescelosaurs that call the islands home, I already have one inspired by Diracodon and there will be others who are burrowers, yet maybe a couple of giants would have evolved from their more typical ancestors. These dinosaurs are certainly interesting, despite not being as famous as others

You know, a while ago I had a thought about the line in the intro that steadily becoming somewhat iconic, the line about dinosaurs being a dominant megafauna. For a moment or two, I wondered if that line was all that true, since outside of Titans, which are completely in the class of their own, it was easy for me to perceive it as if mammals dominate large herbivore niches, but then I remembered the Thescelosaurs.
@TalesofKaimere

Jugashen is one of the scariest creatures in Kaimere, which in a setting with “Demons” and the likes of Moorkutlot says a lot. Just a big omnivorous Thescelosaur that likes “small game”!
@Stooltoad5017
@Stooltoad5017 7 ай бұрын
The Jugashen sounds like a very dangerous animal to be around. Do they have an antagonistic relationship with the elephant sloths where they cohabitate? A Jugashen or Kodrankoku protagonist in an assembly study (like Ka’hai) could make for an interesting choice given their more aggressive temperament. A mosasuar was recently described called Megapterygius, what makes this discovery fascinating is that its dorsal vertebrae indicate a dorsal fin like that of a dolphin on its back. It also has much longer fins than that of normal mosasuars. It has interesting implications for Kaimeran mosasaurs.

It's impressive to see Thescelosaurs getting so big in Kaimere. Who would have thought that such a relatively small group of dinosaurs would have grown to take over the roles left behind by the mighty hadrosaurs. The Jugashen seems very scary and really reminds me of a Deinocheirus, just like how the Kurujaku reminds me of Spinosaurus. Dominion's Theri's got nothing on this fella, but it was still a good scene. I wouldn't want to live around an area known for having Jugashen's given how easily one can disappear if seen by this critter. I'm looking forward to the next video about this reef dwelling serpent. I wonder if there are any surviving species of pelycosaurs or placoderms on Kaimere? I remember seeing Dunkleosteus in a video, but I don't think it's still alive in modern Kaimere.

It's funny how thescelosaurs spent so many millions of years waiting to get big and then sloths came in and basically filled the same sizes and niches in a fraction of the time. 1. Are there any megafaunal dromeodracids known from Kairul? 2. How do Qotaur react to Common Drakes? Is a person with them less likely to get whacked? 3. Are thescelosaurs good eating? 4. Can cat drakes and cats cohabitate? If so, how do they take to each other? 5. Are there any Seridic villages that welcome Kurajaku to keep Jugashen at bay?

1. Maybe up to and around a ton, but not on the scale of the giant archetiposaurs. 2. Depends, but generally they don't like anything particularly close, and the smell of primate is a threat to their young and they can sometimes attack accordingly. 3. Depends on their diet but sometimes. Too many ferns or horsetails in their diet can make the meat a bit toxic. 4. Sort of. Depends on the individual animals more than anything else. 5. Would be quite an interesting pairing! They would certainly utilize flora with a similar scent to kurajaku scent markers to deter, which might be favorable to actually maintaining a 30 ton theropod near your home

Well, whatever the reason it came early, thank you for making up our weeks. Tbh? I never thought they'd have almost a fifty species. And that's just in the known world? Also, a side note, I seriously wonder about many things. Namely how dangerous is it for a very large and experienced Zentaur to take down a Qotar? And it have Kratos in its name? As in Power, as in the one man I know would be able to explore Kaimere in its entirety and even be the best asset for the Assembly and even library, probably? Beside that, I seriously wonder about the Pachys of Kairul and how diverse they went? Sorry for the barrage of questions but, tbh? I'm so excited about this wonderful remake of a very early episode. On a side note, there is something I wanted to tell you about, there is NO bad episode of Kaimere, only the perfect, like the amazing Documentary on the life of Ka'Hai, and the rest which are at the very least extremely interesting. Although, I was meaning to ask you since last week, is there any surviving Tyrants in Kaimere? Take care, and stay fantastic.

(Speaking of which, are chalicotheres, deinotheres, meridiungulates, and some sloths eating gymnosperms on Kaimere ancestral traits from Earth or derived features that evolved on Kaimere?) 2. How heavy are kasktaur? 3. Who would win in a fight between the largest elasmarian, pachycephalosaur, and thescelosaur of Kaimere? 4. Do qotaur topple and kill drenduga, zentaur, and subadult titanosaurs in fights?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere 7 ай бұрын
1. Occasionally they intersect, but it's mostly that they're browsing on the same trees rather than their grazing supplements, which do diverge along the angiosperm/gymnosperm lines. And yes, I'd say for the most part those are derived traits. Remember that for most it's a supplement, not main diet. 2. I'm not super diligent on weight estimates and should probably stop giving them since I'm just vibes estimating and folks probably want something more rigorous. 4 ish tons but don't take that to the bank and I won't apologize if I change it under more refined methods. 3. Hard to say before they are designed. Most likely an east qotaur sweep, though I haven't designed all the pachys yet so won't 100% commit to that. 4. It can happen but they of course don't win every engagement and are a prey item to zentaur

Got a few questions for you 1 how much on a scale of ten you think youre at the bestiary ? (atleast for the known world) 2 are there tapir in kaimere ? 3 why is the putuit varan tail so swollen ? 4 how did the kurujaku developed its antlers horn thing ? 5 how did cockatrices developed their signature crest ? 6 what was the first ever described animal on kaimere and when was it described ? 7 when did the assembly started exploring kaimere ? 8 are herbivorous crocodile still alive in kaimere ?

Love the designs of the serpent drakes they absolutely feel like the kind of new dinosaur who would evolve to effectively compete and niche partition with mammals. But about that one question with most of the drakes what makes them different than most of the big and specially medium herbivorous mammals, it's just that sorry but I am not sure what niche partitioning ocurrs that doesn't make it so that either most generalist herbivorous mammals or these drakes specially the small ones go extinct due to competition.

Largely comes down to diet and climate: there are far more gymnosperms in Kaimere than on Earth (roughly 40-70% of plants depending on habitat) and dinosaurs tend to have a much easier time digesting gymnosperms. Conversely, while elasmerians especially can digest grass pretty well, mammals are much better grazers, so tend to be more abundant in grassland niches.

The avarage person on Earth doesn't known about Kaimere. There is an organisation called The Assembly who are the only ones in the know of Kaimere and a major part of their job is to keep it a secret. The portal works both ways currently thanks to a device operating with the "magic" which was constructed by the first children more than 10,000 years ago. Prior to that it was a one way trip.

@@TalesofKaimere They are often depicted with really scraggly, greasy green hair, and the tail fluke on this dinosaur group gives a really aquatic look. @Andrey.Ivanov 7 ай бұрын
Thescelosaurus itself was present at the time of the extinction event but was pretty large. There are currently no members of the smaller orodromines known from Maastrichtian deposits, which suggests that they may have been extinct by the time or atleast that they weren't as common. Either way if any dinosaurs had potential to survive they were certainly among them. If we were to find out that a non-avian dinosaur made it briefly into the Paleocene my bet would be a thescelosaur, an elasmarian or a troodontid.
