Huge Glasper fan, I've been to several of his concerts. I can attest to his willingness to play for the love of it. I went to see him around the time the Experiment was formed. My wife, sister-in=law, and brother went to the World Cafe Live in Philly by U City. We paid at most $20 to see the Experiment play, what I thought was going to be at most 30-45 minutes of songs. On a Thursday night. Bilal stopped by to do vocals. We got there at 8 p.m. We left at 11 p.m. because everyone had to go to work in the morning. But rest assured they were STILL KILLING IT as we walked out the door. Again on a Thursday night. For 3+ hours. I'm thinking it had to be at least 4-5 hours if we could have stayed. It was amazing.

I was at the festival that he mentioned where Phonte invited him on stage. It was the One Music Fest back when it was still at Piedmont Park. It was 2011 and I'd never heard of Glasper. He got on stage with The Foreign Exchange and the rest of the musicians were in awe of him. At that point, i was like "I've gotta look this guy up". Talib caped way too much for Lauryn Hill for my taste. Glasper is a hero for speaking up for those musicians that can't speak for themselves that she disrespected for 20 years . No amount of achievement, accomplishment, talent or genius gives a person the right to shit on people with that extreme level of disrespect. And that "The rights of the performer to be unprofessional" That makes zero sense. So hill has the right to shit on musicians and her fans e.g. turn up 3 hours late then give a shitty performance. Nah not feeling that. If she has the right to be unprofessional, then people have the "RIGHT" to react to her unprofessionalism, and call it out anyway they deem fit to which Glasper quite rightly did.

Huge fan of Kweli's music and how he talks to people on this show, I definitely like what Jasmine brings to the table too. I'm glad he brought this up, though because I remember reading that article and thinking "what the entire fuck?!". Nobody should feel like they owe fans so much that they have to sell out or embody who the fans want them to be, but in that article I felt like he went beyond defending that. Everyone reserves the right to be whoever they want to be, but fans aren't wrong for wanting the respect of an artist they are paying to see. It almost felt like he was saying "if an artist gives you their ass to kiss, you paying to attend their show shouldn't spare you from that". I think that's miles past saying "just because you pay, that doesn't make an artist your puppet". THAT, to me, would've been a reasonable statement. I still remember the Episode where Godfrey became a little dismissive towards Jasmine when she kind of disagreed with him. Talib smoothed shit out WITHOUT acting as if she was some kid and he was coming to the rescue AND without saying Godfrey was the bad guy. That was great to see. So I'm still unsure what made him go so hard defending Lauryn, when people were upset with her for feeling slighted.

Absolutely AWESOME video. One note, though. I feel that for ANY musician, church is required, even if you're just a ringer and have no belief in God. I went to the same high school as Robert (High School for Performing and Visual Arts), and I was a trumpet player in the jazz band. But church choir made me a classically trained soprano. It's not about religion, necessarily, but about practice. Where else are you going to practice your art once, usually twice a week for years on end?

And regarding the statements he made about her. She didn't deny any of them and she hasn't taken him to caught for defamation of character. Those musicians that put her album together successfully sued her. And if she was the creative genius behind that album. How comes she hasn't being able to put out another great album on that level? I'll tell you why. It's because it was those uncredited musicians that did all the work and they obviously wouldn't work with her again. One album that she only sang and rapped on don't give her no God status to shit on people with a disrespectful attitude forever and Robert Glasper had every right to call that out.
