• Nate Dogg's performance on 'I Need A Light' and the story behind 213's 'Joystick'.
• The Regulator Kush cannabis strain that he's been involved with.
• His own Barbecue sauce line and catering service with 'Sniffin Griffins BBQ'.
• Some of Warren's latest endeavors of getting into the real estate scene.

TIME STAMPS: 2:22 -- The show kicks off with a shout-out to Kurupt for his appearance on People's Party several months back. They go on to discuss the legacy of Warren's mother Ola Mae, his song 'My Momma' dedicated to her, as well as his father and how his love of jazz still influences what Warren's playlist looks like today. Warren also speaks on his Long Beach upbringing, the prevalence of gangbanging on his street of 21st & Lewis as well as the fun he had growing up in the LBC and his eventual move to live with his father in Compton. 10:42 -- Warren is asked what it was like being Dr. Dre's younger brother when N.W.A. was blowing up. He speaks on how Dre was the one that taught him how to DJ and produce and Warren tells how N.W.A.'s interlude '1-900-2 Compton' would become his first appearance on wax. They also discuss Warren meeting Snoop in elementary school, community programs getting pulled from the hood and the talent contest where Snoop and Kurupt met for the first time and had a legendary freestyle battle that became the steppingstone for Kurupt landing on Death Row. 17:23 -- Warren is asked about his meeting Nate Dogg when they were kids. He tells about the tensions between the two early-on, them eventually becoming ride or die brothers and how incredibly gifted Nate was. The classic track 'Ain't No Fun' is brought up and Warren is asked if he can take us through the process of making the song and if the crew knew they were working on a masterpiece. Warren's contributions to 'The Chronic' are also brought up as they discuss his intro to 'Deeez Nuuuts' and its lasting impact on pop culture. 23:18 -- Warren speaks on the making of 'The Chronic' while LA was in the midst of the '92 riots and they discuss how audio clips on the album came directly from the streets during that crazy time. They go on to talk about Nipsey Hussle, what he meant to West Coast rap and his own tumultuous relationship with the LAPD. Warren is also asked how important The D.O.C. was to the legacy of N.W.A. and Death Row Records. They discuss what a natural talent he is, his part in teaching Snoop, Warren and others to write and Warren being with him the night he got in the accident that stole his voice. 29:45 -- Warren is asked about his disillusionment and hurt feelings during the time of his exit from Death Row. He speaks on being essentially banished from the camp after Suge Knight was alerted that Warren was cautioning others about signing contracts without lawyers looking over them first. Warren also illustrates the alteration that occurred between him and Suge after he found out, heading home and trying to navigate his own way in the industry and in the end not holding any ill feelings towards anyone about how it all went down. 34:44 -- The group Above The Law gets a big shout-out for their part in the evolution of G-Funk. They go on to discuss Warren's iconic hit 'Regulate'. Warren translates the meaning behind "rhythm is life and life is rhythm" and they discuss his intention on creating his own signature style within the G-Funk lane, attempts made to trademark the term 'G-Funk Era', how dialog from the film 'Young Guns' made it to the intro and the crate of records he acquired with the Michael McDonald album that would help 'Regulate' become the classic that it is today. 42:10 -- Warren speaks on how cool it was to finally get the chance to meet and chop it up with Michael McDonald after one of his shows. They go on to discuss the 1994 Billboard Music Awards when Nate Dogg performed 'Regulate' with Warren against the wishes of Suge Knight. Warren shares some untold facts about the story involving a backpack with 8+ guns that somehow made it into the event, an altercation that occurred backstage as well actor Michael Clarke Duncan being a security guard there at the time. 47:36 -- They discuss Warren's debut album essentially saving Def Jam, a record company that was struggling with bankruptcy issues at the time and Warren talks about how the signing came after Warren's production 'Indo Smoke' made it to the 'Poetic Justice' soundtrack. He also details the low profile that he kept while attending the infamous 1995 Source Awards while being fully ready for whatever might go down. They go on to talk about the West Coast/East Coast beef, Warren staying out of it and making attempts to help iron out the beef between 2Pac and Biggie while he was hanging out in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. 57:32 -- Warren is asked about the artists that he brought on the scene such as the Twinz, Dove Shack and Da 5 Footaz. They also dig into Warren's repurposing the Transformers theme on 'Transformers', the legacy of the group 213 dating back to the school days in Long Beach where Warren, Nate and Snoop originally met each other and working with Hi-Tek on 213's 'Twist Yo Body'. They go on to discuss the 'Get U Down' collab with B-Real, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, as well as Nate's performance on 'I Need A Light' and the story behind 213's 'Joystick'. 1:05:32 -- Warren is asked about the Regulator Kush cannabis strain that he's been involved in bringing to consumers as well as his own Barbecue sauce line with 'Sniffin Griffins BBQ'. They discuss Warren's long-time passion for grilling and how he likes his meat cooked. They also get into Warren's favorite verse from the 'In The Mid-Nite Hour' album, how Nate Dogg came up with the album title by accident while singing in the studio and Warren speaks on his recent endeavors into the world of real estate and house flipping.

This interview meant a lot for me. I bought the cassette tape of the Regulate album when it first dropped. I was a junior in high school. I played it religiously!! As I acquired more more throughout those years I would learn that he was the mastermind behind a lot of the tunes I was digging. The MC Breed stuff, some of the tracks Tupac did on soundtracks, etc. Praises to Talib for reaching out to this brotha, what a gem. Some might say a hidden gem. The G Child always been at the top of my list of hiphop producers. Salute!! 💯💯💯

I know Regulate…G Funk Era is the certified classic that everyone wants to ask Warren about, but I wish I could hear him chat about his second album Take A Look Over Your Shoulder more. It’s a banger from start to finish. Came out when I was in high school so it felt more like “my” Warren G album. I loved Regulate and and my stepdad would bump it all the time when he would drop me off at school when I was younger, but Take A Look was the new shit when I was really starting to pay attention to hip hop. So many great tracks on there, but Annie Mae with Nate is my favorite.

One of the highest requested artists to be featured on shows like this, and I think with Kweli’s pull, he can manage to get him. Kweli has worked with him on a few albums. I’m talking about none other than DJ Quik. T-Pain managed to get him on his podcast but it wasn’t a deep discussion. This is the platform he ought to be featured on. Plus one of Kweli’s favourite albums is Balance + Options. A super underrated project that people never mention when it comes to the OG.

This interview aside, my second People’s Party full interview I’ve tuned into (first being 40, $hort & Cube). I wasn’t too familiar with Talib Kweli growing up. Much bigger fan of G-Funk West Coast than anything in the 90’s, that’s where my attention was. Shout out to Talib. Podcast, 10/10, homie. Very clearly an incredibly bright kid. From the setting, quality sound & mics, not plaguing videos with tasteless ads. Style. Quality of questions & flow of conversation. All that is aside from this specific interview with Warren. Straight up. All these little things matter, you doing it RIGHT Talib Kweli. Outstanding interview & looking forward to more.

Great interview. Love the way Talib and Jasmine actually do their homework and prep questions before turning on the mics for this show. Been a Warren G fan since Indo Smoke and bought most of his catalogue, so I know most his back story. This interview brought some new stories to the table however. Never knew he was (on the low) in attendance at the '95 Source Awards. I always wondered why he wasn't on that stage with the Death Row inmates. Quik, tha Dogg Pound, Rage and Sam Sneed all did songs from the Above the Rim and MWTC soundtracks. Regulate, which was on ATR, would've fit perfectly.

Everytime you have one of my favorites on I feel like I'm watching history. I really hope one day to see K - Rino on here, he's the unspoken giant of hip hop imo. We'd record the clips to VHS and watch them over and over, "This DJ" is my soundtrack! This man is not just my first rap hero, but my first musical idol in general. Warren G started it all for me, endless respect 🤘 EDIT If I could only tell my 10 year old self that one day I'll listen to Talib Kweli and Warren G talk about Transformers

The first time I went to Long Beach, I wanted to move there. Then I just happened to meet someone who lived there and I lived there for a couple of years. The city is so unique and so different than any other city I've lived in. Rich and poor were vibing together. I'll always say it, I want to retire there. Too bad I had to leave to live closer to work. King Park was the jam for MLK day! VIBES!

It’s so beautiful getting an insight as to how the east coast viewed and lowkey appreciated the sound coming from the west coast.
