Nice review Foodquig. I am recovering from a total knee replacement surgery and haven’t had a dram in 6 weeks. I will definitely try and find this and make it my first dram when I’m up and running again. Slainte

You owe it to yourself... No whisky in six weeks? I don't believe I have ever done something like that since the age of eighteen!

Agree. This one is awesome.

I am not a huge Talisker fan but this one is an exception/ So far it's my favorite of the Distillers Edition releases.I finally got my hands on the Craganmore DE and am going to crack it soon.

Talisker is great juice... I haven't had one I didn't like. It's been a couple of years, so I forget everything about this one, but whenever I see one of these Diageo Distiller's Editions it's an instant buy.

I totally agree with you on this one. Hits the spot in so many ways. Nothing overpowering, and a great nose and finish. Cheers!

I like to call it perfectly balanced...

if this keeps up, you'll need another place with more wall space ! I should look for this as I have always liked Talisker.

It adds a new dimension or two to the standard 10... I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it.

So good, just opened a bottle of another malt myself and letting it get some air in the glass before I try it. Enjoyed the T DE whenever I tried it, but I suppose it has a tougher standing with me as I like the explosiveness of the regular T 10 and also the Laga DE even better. Well, perhaps a friend brings his T DE to a private whisky gathering tomorrow and I can try it once more. Have fun with it! :-) Btw. the T DE was always about 11 years old a few years back before they changed it to 10. Reg. Amoroso, it is an artificial marketing term for a certain half sweet sherry mixture and does not constitute an official category like Amontillado or Oloroso. So while the term is used on sherry bottles (and can likewise so on whisky), it lacks clear definition.

This is my first bottle of this juice, and I'm hooked. My 2015 Lagavulin DE is getting low, and I will probably replace it with the 2016 version that's on the shelf now... There are so many whiskies that I still want to try, and most of them are a good experience. Thanks for clarifying for me what Amoroso is...

so do you remember how this one compares to laphroaig triple wood?? (since this is a sherry'ed smoky whisky)

The Laphroaig has more notes of tar, iodine, and creosote and is more medicinal and dryer than the Talisker which is sweeter, and a bit more bonfirey... Both are excellent choices. I would try them side by side, only the Talisker is packed and in the car to be enjoyed on a faraway beach.

Subbed! I LOVE that wall behind you. I've always had a hard time with the peat in Scotch overwhelming my palate and nose. Any tips?
@foodquig7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! I'm guessing that you've tried some blended scotch? Most commercial blends have some peated component in order to impart some complexity. Maybe peat is simply not your thing? Try some unpeated scotch single malts, and there are many of those out there... Maybe sherry maturation is more to your liking? Try GlenDronach 12, Macallan 12, Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12, Glenfarclas 12, Speyburn 10, Bunnahabhain 12, Bruichladdich Classic, McClelland's Highland and Speyside malts, and maybe go for a Highland Park 12 which has some peat in it, but it's very mild, and the other flavors balance the peat beautifully... Of course this is not an exhaustive list. What do you think of Canadian whisky or Irish whiskey? Have you tried any bourbons?
@WineOnTheDime7 жыл бұрын
Actually, my favorite Scotch is Glengoyne 12 (18 if I can afford it). I've had Glenfiddich (my second fav), Glenlivet, and Macallan. I really don't like Glenlivet. There's something about it that makes me hate myself on each swallow. Canadian whiskey is okay but I haven't tried a lot of them. I HATE Crown and Seagrams VO. I haven't had many of them other than Pike Creek and Alberta Rye. As for Bourbon, I'm in Texas so I can't really go wrong drinking it. Always drink it neat.

Like I was saying, given that you seem to like sherry maturation, I'd go light on the peat and work my way up if I were you... I would also recommend Johnnie Walker Green Label, as it has a bit of peat, and Compass Box Lost Blend. Springbank 10 might also work for you. Try some other blends like Famous Grouse for scotch... Pike Creek and Alberta Rye are steps in the right direction for Canadian whisky. Yopu might also like Forty Creek Barrel Select and Copper Pot as well as Lot 40 Rye... Cheers!

I'll take you advice. I'm hoping Santa will bring some Spirits with him this Christmas... :)
