@Oscar Álvarez What do you think the final electric flash at the Palmer house represents?
@goranhrastovik53643 жыл бұрын
@Oscar Álvarez For me.it was the death of Judy. Two birds (Judy/Sarah) with one stone (Laura Palmer as a weapon- her scream). Electricity goes out because of Lauras fatal scream ( she screams a lot through the whole series)..and remember Judy travels through electricity..every time something bad happens or something bad is a bout the happen..you hear the sounds (Fireman: Listen to the sounds)...distorted electricity sounds..it means Judy is around..that why all the telephone poles, electricity poles are represented..Scream, triggered by Sarah calling..LAURA?!.. killed Judy..LIGHTS GO OUT..she's defeated..and that is why there is no more sound in the last episode, at the end..you see LYNCH/FROST PRODUCTIONS logo..but now..no more electricity sounds. :) Remember Mike saying...ELECTRICITY! Hawk saying, while explaining the map to Sheriff Truman...that fire symbol actually means a modern type of fire..like electricity---FIRE WALK WITH ME. Have a good one ;)

@Oscar Álvarez believe me this ending is not SIMPLE..i know bunch of people who are watching it..and watching it...and SLOWLY figuring out what it is..Lynch is complex..but not to the point that he will never be understandable to a degree..P.S. this came to me after 3 years of finally watching the WHOLE thing..if it was a SIMPLE ending..i would figure it out in 3 weeks. @TakeTheRing6 жыл бұрын
yep! I have some thoughts on that as well. Regardless of what people think happened at the ending, it's certainly melancholy, sad, confusing, etc. I take that final piece of music during the credits as a sad lament to our heroes, and maybe they wanted to end it quietly/peacefully, as opposed to the loud, jarring electrical sound.
@nathheast58295 жыл бұрын
@@TakeTheRing Also the power went off right before, they might not have had the time to fix it before the bumper
That fits with the theory presented in the video. If Carrie/Laura's scream actually ended Judy, it makes sense that the electricity sounds would end since that's how evil transported itself.

By far, the best Twin Peaks analysis I've ever seen. You covered the 1 thing that I'm totally obsessed about, that a lot of other Twin Peaks Fan Videos failed to cover. And that's Jack Parsons & Alister Crowley's connection to the Trinity Atom Bomb, and opening up the portal for the Whore of Babylon to come threw to our World. This is 1 of the most important pieces of information that Twin Peaks has covered. The only difference, is that they changed the Whore Of Babylon into "The Mother" (which represents the same entity, but just David Lynch & Mark Frost's version of it). And the most wild thing about it, is it's 100% true. CBS even made a TV Series, that just came out a few weeks ago, called 'Strange Angel', which is about Jack Parsons life & his involvement with Alister Crowley, The Occult & Thelema. And besides that, you've got an excellent, well thought out analysis. I think you got everything bang-on correct, and fit all of the puzzle pieces together perfectly. I look forward to watching the rest of the videos you've posted on your channel, and I look forward to future videos. You've got yourself a new subscriber. Keep up the great work.

Evan Martin thanks! did you watch the CBS show? was it any good? I am curious about it...
@emartin866 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a great show from what I've seen so far. It's about 7 episodes in so far, and Ridley Scott is the Executive Producer of the show. So it's pretty high budget, it's well written & directed, and the actors & actresses do a pretty decent job in it. It's definitely not on the same level of epicness, as Twin Peaks. But not many other shows are. Definitely worth checking out, none the less. Parson's is just in the beginning stages of getting involved with the Occult right now on the show. So the show will most likely get better & better as it goes on.

Evan Martin Have you ever seen a series called Carnival??? There is also a convection between the Trinity test and the whore of Babylon.
@Posit_Zero_Blue5 жыл бұрын
Just to add: The ritual Parsons invoked at the trinity test site was called the babalon working (babalon aka mother of abominations, aka the scarlet woman, aka the sacred whore). Interestingly...L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame is the person with whom Parsons carried out the ritual. The ritual was performed by Parsons to bring forth an incarnation of Babalon into our world. Parsons considered his working a success when he met Marjorie Cameron, whom he regarded as the aforementioned incarnation, and whom he later married. There were quite a few eccentric people Parsons kept company with & can easily turn into a deep dive on its own lol. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babalon_Working & en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babalon & en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Cameron

Amazing job organizing this so well. There were a couple other things I noticed that support all this: 1. On the blue plate + horse figurine: David Lynch is very particular with his use of the color blue, often keeping it out of his scenes and only using it to signify important transitions. Examples of this are the box + key in Mulholland Drive and also the blue hospital room and sheets when Cooper finally reawakens. Keeping "the horse is the white of the eye" in mind, the blue plate with the horse on Carrie's mantle is like an eye that has been inverted, signifying that Judy is now the direct observer in Odessa. 2. If Judy is watching over everything in Odessa, then a few other things really stick out. The mechanical horse ride in front of Judy's diner was deliberately added for the show. The camera also lingers centered on a white orb lamppost (electricity, also shaped like an eye) outside the hotel. Finally, the headlights behind Cooper and Carrie on their long drive take on another meaning, since you can look at them as a pair of spooky white eyes watching them closely. Maybe Cooper is just slipping away as Richard, but maybe he understood that this new place is under Judy's influence, and that's why he treats it with such little regard. He stops in the middle of traffic to look at the sign, double parks, and waves his gun at innocent people. Not sure if it's reaching too much, but I think a fair amount of attention is drawn to these things, so there has to be some intention there.
@ladiesmannumerouno5 жыл бұрын
..he also forgot the chalfront/tremond name that he learned from fwwm i cant believe cooper forgot a clue. i missed that...
@MarvinFalz5 жыл бұрын
I love your "white orb lamppost" interpretation. When I see the headlights behind them, I get the same feeling, they're like eyes watching, following them. This is sort of confirmed by Carrie's reaction. Then the eyes become normal headlights again, when the car passes them. What Carrie experiences in that moment is exactly how Laura's experiences BOB in The Secret Diary. To Laura BOB is both real and unreal, outside and inside, he's there in person who climbs through the window, and he gradually becomes her inner voice, they're momentarily indistinguishable from each other, like they're one person. Outer and inner reality merge. Also, the Greek origin of the name "Odessa" seems to be significant. What I've read on sites for Baby names, Odessa means "wrathful," it is a female name, and it is related to the Odyssey.
@noh-13864 жыл бұрын
@@MarvinFalz I know, the interpretation is really good! I do have to say they lucked out, since Odessa is a real town here in Texas and is very picturesque. But Lynch does NOTHING by accident or frivolously, so I must believe you're right.

As someone who just finished Twin Peaks for the first time, this is the best video I've found that really helps me make sense of everything! One thing I've been thinking about RE: Judy's possession of Sarah Palmer... I feel the description of Judy as an "Extreme Negative FORCE" is significant, as it seems to imply that Judy is more than just a mere entity (as opposed to Bob and Mike), and that she exists beyond just Sarah Palmer. We know that Judy sent the frog creature to inhabit Sarah when she was a child, during the scene where the woodsman says "the horse is the white of the eyes". If we picture the white of the eyes as a white circle that contain the dark of the iris/pupils, we can also think of the white horse as something that contains the black evil of Judy (also like a trojan horse). However, we know that Judy exists outside of Sarah too as she is with Philip Jefferies in Argentina, as well as in NYC in the Return. All this leads me to think Judy is a force of evil who can manifest itself in a physical form we see in NYC, also is the "evil in these woods" that Sheriff Trueman mentions. Judy's presence is a corruption in the town of Twin Peaks that could be the cause of the seemingly rampant crimes, drug use, sex and violence its residents indulge in , especially it's teenagers. Judy is most likely also the force that prevents Harold Smith from leaving his house as he is crippled by sensing her presence when he goes outside. We also see lots of examples of Judy's influence in the Return: the woman who we first see in the hospital and eventually is bloodied and staggering out of the woods, the infected child Bobby sees in the car, the strange goings-on at the trailer park, etc. telling us that Judy's power in the town has grown over the years, also evidenced by Sarah Palmer's deteriorating mental state. Sarah is a puppet who Judy uses to keep watch on Laura, a being created to destroy her, and groom her for Bob's eventual possession (probably as a way to destroy the only thing that threatened her). Judy and Bob's plan is ruined when Laura puts on the ring, kicking off the chain of events that leads us to the Return, where Judy finally assumes full control of Sarah to hide from Mr. C before eventually following Cooper and Diane into the trap.

You just gave me an immense sense of satisfaction (and almost closure) with this analysis thank you !! It seems to really make sense at the macro-level of the basic theme of Twin Peaks of good vs evil... like the annihilation of Judy was really the purpose of the higher positive forces all along since their original creation of Laura (or even better Laura is one of them that incarnated as Laura for that purpose) and all that happened after, the good and the tragic, was just the acting out of this plan... Btw love all of your other videos too!

@nightbirdgames3 жыл бұрын
I think this theory is solid. My viewing of the return's finale had me feeling the same thing. That Laura's scream destroyed Judy. Electricity was always something that Judy seemed to be connected to. When the power goes out, it leads me to believe Judy is defeated. By the way, sex creates friction which creates electricity which summons Judy.
@MattMelon5195 жыл бұрын
The Judy trap theory is by far my favorite theory about the last episode and I learned a lot more things supporting this theory than I have before. The only thing backing the other theories is "we live inside a dream" which..where does that factor in? also I personally don't think the dead man resembles bob.
@TakeTheRing5 жыл бұрын
well ... I mean he does have long, stringy hair and close shave beard and is roughly the same build as Frank Silva. And his beer gut is a little ridiculous, maybe that's a visual reference to the Bob orb that was in Mr C? Just some thoughts... And the "we live inside a dream" is the meta, Lynchian angle to this whole thing. So there's not really one answer to The Return that encompasses all aspects. There's theories as to "who is the dreamer?", Cooper being a failure, this is Laura's dream, etc. I'll be discussing that stuff further down the road. But in this video, in a limited amount of time, I'm trying to explain what I think is narratively going on. Meaning if there is a more or less standard plot or storyline, then what can we reasonably assume is going on based on visual evidence.
@pinealdreams10645 жыл бұрын
'We live inside a dream' could be Cooper realising that, by doing what he's about to, he's going to change everything about reality as we know it, and these memories will fade from history, like a dream.
@alexs65315 жыл бұрын
@@TakeTheRing I think Cooper's confusion about the date is an indication that he is losing himself in the dream world (its slippery in there!) while Carrie Page is foggy and disoriented the way many people feel in dreams. When Carrie/Laura hears her mother call out her name as she did in the pilot, Laura is waking from the dream and the realization turns the strange dream of Carrie Page into the sudden realization that this in fact a nightmare. She screams, releasing the sorrow and fear and rage against the darkness (Judy) that has created or fostered this nightmare... and she wakes up from the nightmare. The nightmare/dream world goes to darkness and Laura Palmer wakes up in her bed on the morning of the pilot when her mother goes to get her. Laura is the One. The One who Dreams. The One with the power to stop Judy. The dream version of Carrie ceases to exist, because Laura wakes up in the "real" world (or at least the world of the pilot). This version of Cooper is perhaps lost in this collapsed nightmare, having accomplished his mission, and is sacrificed. Triumph against Judy, but a sad end for Cooper. But this isn't exactly Cooper, is it? It is a combination of Cooper and Mr. C that was perhaps necessary to make it through the Judy nightmare to bring Carrie/Laura to confront Judy. Happily, a Cooper remains safe and presumably happy in Las Vegas with his family.

This HAS to be what happened. The whole Chalfont Tremont thing is just SO crystal clear here. The spirits or just Judy on her own accord was clearly using aliases to get Cooper off her scent. The new universe had Laura far away from home, making it easier for Judy to grow stronger in that one and probably others as well since Cooper reset history pre-Laura’s death. Cooper bringing the alternate Laura back “home” gave her the opportunity (and I guess she registered her purpose as well since I think alternate characters from other universes all sense each other and their lives) so Carrie knew who she actually was at this point like how Diane knew about herself being raped in another reality, and used her powers gifted to her to destroy Judy (or at least severing her connection to all other realities).

Gave this video another watch and discovered a new perspective. My thoughts on the ending (which definitely satisfy me) are: 1. Odessa is not a trap world, instead, it is Laura's dream. (Cooper goes back in time, saves Laura, Laura is now in a limbo/dream state) 2. Cooper does not cross over into the the trap world, he HAS entered Laura's dream as Richard. 3. In the last scene Sara calls out Laura's name. Laura then wakes up with a scream, ending the dream and the end of Twin Peaks that involves Judy. Now, what really gets me excited. The missing page of the diary (Carrie Page) describes this Odessa world, meeting Coop, and visiting the house! I think this would be so awesome if that was the case. And one more thing that really helps back up my thought. In episode 17, Coop says two very important things- "we live inside a dream" & "I hope to see you all again". We live inside a dream is pretty self explanatory. And, I hope to see you all again implies that Coop is aware of the dream and is saddened to wake from it, thus no longer existing in a world with all his friends of Twin Peaks. I do not claim that this is exactly how it happened, it just works for me. I think about this show almost daily, as it is a puzzle that I just can't solve. Again, this was and incredible video analysis! would really love to hear some opinions on what I had to say. Looking forward to more vids from Take The Ring. Thanks! -Eli

In Fire Walk with Me, the old woman and her grandson are credited as "The Chalfonts." In the Twin Peaks Season 2 Episode 2, the old woman never claims to be Mrs Tremond. Donna assumes she is Mrs Tremond, because that is the name on her Meals on Wheels delivery. The old woman neither confirms nor denies this. Surprisingly, she has no desire for creamed corn. (Pain and sorrow?) So her grandson gets rid of it for her, using magic. She directs Donna to Harold Smith's house. And once Harold is dead - or once his house no longer contains Laura's secret diary - then the old woman and her grandson move on, leaving Mrs Tremond in their place. Whatever Chalfonts are, they do not feed on creamed corn, like Mike and his Arm. If they've already gone by the time Cooper arrives in Season 3 Episode 18, then he may indeed be correct that he's come several years too late. And they seem to always leave Tremonds in their wake, to remove the evidence that they've been there. The Return's writer, Mark Frost, likened the scene where Laura disappears - as Cooper is leads her through the forest - to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. And he says that Cooper's journey in Season 3 is like Homer's Odyssey. He says his theme - like that of the Greek myths - is that our hubris (overconfidence) is our undoing. He says that what he wanted to say with the ending was that when mere mortals presume to meddle with time and the finality of death - the way Cooper does - then terrible things happen to them. I note, with interest, that in the final episodes of Seasons 1, 2, and 3, Cooper's overconfidence gets the better of him. As Hawk tells Cooper in the Season 2 Episode 11: "If you confront the Black Lodge with imperfect courage, it will utterly annihilate your soul." I also find it amusing that Bob's final battle is not against Coop, but rather a Londoner called Freddie, whose weapon of choice is his fist. And British Freddie defeats Bob in the style of... Punch and Judy?

Really awesome analysis. Finally got time to watch the 3rd series but I've watched first two and Fire walk with me too many years apart. Enough to forget details, names, etc. And Lynch loves leaving breadcrumbs in those details, names, sounds, images, symmetries, negatives that connect everything together.

I finally got around to watching the series. This video helped me understand a LOT, so THANK YOU. However it mentions one thing that I interpreted differently, and that's the use of sex to lure Judy. I have an alternate theory that is, I think, more straightforward. 1) In New York, Judy doesn't enter the glass box because the couple is having sex. I think Judy enters the glass box because she's the mysterious "mother" (a widely accepted theory) who's pursuing Cooper through time-space. When Cooper returns to our reality he falls straight into the box*, and hovers briefly before being expelled. Moments later Judy arrives in the box. (* Since Cooper fell straight into the box, and the box was meant for Judy, this also suggests it was Mr. C who orchestrated Cooper's exit from the Black Lodge to use him as bait.) 2) Near the end, when Cooper and Diane have sex, I agree sex is key to summoning Judy, but not because of the act itself. On the contrary, I think it's the garmonbozia (pain and sorrow) produced by the act that lures Judy to them. Diane is miserable because she must have sex with a man she probably loves, but who repulses her as a carbon copy of the man who raped her; and Cooper is tortured by numerous things, such as Diane's pain, and sacrificing both Diane and Laura/Carrie in an attempt to destroy Judy.

these are great thoughts and can certainly be interpreted that way! I too think that the mother was following Cooper and think it's difficult to say either way!

@@TakeTheRing ... Then again, if Frost went to the trouble to mention Crowley and Thelema in the Dossier, sex probably has a more meaningful role than I thought.

@@jasonclark7894 it's hard to say with this show. I'm a big Frost fan, but many TP fans don't do the books or think they're not "relevant". One of my planned 2021 videos will get into the books and the desert/sex/bomb stuff specifically

You just perfectly articulated & interpreted what was implied & inferred through bizarre scenes & vague subtext. David Lynch stories aren't the random inexplicable dreams capes people often credit them as, but puzzles with all the clues placed carefully so that people can put it together just like this video! Great job, this should be essential viewing for people confused by The Return. There are definitely some other sub plots & scenes I'd love to hear you touch on as well.

This the most rational analysis I've seen. I don't know if it's entirely correct; only Lynch does. But if he won't ever say one way or the other, it's fair to take away my own interpretation. With only slight reservations, I can accept most of this one.

Sometimes, the simplest theory is the best. I like how, unlike a lot of people, you've taken direct evidence from what we are shown, and used it to construct a working theory. I don't entirely agree, and think there a few more elements in play than you've covered, but I think you have the skeletal structure of the narrative nailed. Although, Mr.C isn't trying to destroy Judy. Frost gave it away in The Final Dossier where he explains Joudy a bit more, and claims that 'If Baul and Joudy ever met on Earth, it would be the end of the world as we know it.' I think BOB is Baul, and was trying to reunite with Joudy, for some purpose we'll never fully understood, but then Freddy fisted him out of existence thanks to The Fireman.

I was gonna comment that too. Mr C wanted to find Judy to end the world. The ultimate buffet of pain and suffering.

Nuclear fission versus fusion. At least loosely. Them getting together after the bomb test split them apart all those years ago. So call them Baul and Joudy or subatomic particles... Them getting back together could create powerful energy/forces. I’m sure the science won’t be all cutting edge exact and mathematically precise, but the basic idea, even at the level of metaphor, works. (Am I the only one who’s thinking about this nuclear fission versus fusion aspect?)

I know this is a super late reply, but I just found this video. The creature that crawls into Sarah's mouth as a little girl also had those spikes on its face, and they are similar to the protrusions on the symbol of Judy that Mr. C has on the playing card he shows Daria. I think the spikey things in that scene are just a visual cue to tie all those things together.

Of all the theories I've found online, this is the one that makes the most sense to me, thanks. One quibble though: Cooper didn't really save Laura in the original timeline, though. She disappeared in the woods while Coop was holding her hand, and we learn later that Laura still went missing, that Cooper came to Twin Peaks to investigate, but didn't solve the case, and so her disappearance remained officially unsolved. The only thing that changed was that her corpse didn't wash up on the shore.

that's true, but some believe she went missing in Twin Peaks to be later found in Odessa as Carrie Page

Very compelling explanation. I also think the Chalfont/Tremont reference was critical, it was odd how Richard Coop didn't react to it.
@TakeTheRing5 жыл бұрын
agreed, another mystery. is he forgetful because his mind is slipping away in the Odessa world the same way Carrie doesn't remember that she's Laura? is it because this new Cooper/Richard has lost some of himself during his journey and crossing over? is it because it's really a minor detail from 25 years ago and he just doesn't recall, the way human memory actually works? is it only us, the audience, that remembers the Chalfont/Tremond name because we've seen the show a million times and this is kind of a fourth wall moment? this show can break your brain 🔥🔥🔥

@@TakeTheRing One thing a friend pointed out to me is how Cooper seems to act like all three versions of himself in the Odessa world. When he's at Judy's diner, he heroically saves a woman like Dale Cooper would've, but does it in kind of a rougher way than he normally would've, like Mr. C. Then he absentmindedly drops his gun in the fryer like Dougie Jones would.
@TakeTheRing3 жыл бұрын
@@aquamidideluxe5079 yep. many think, including me, that "Richard" is the reformed Cooper. He's Dale Cooper and Mr. C put back together after 25 years. Some suggest that he's Dale and Mr. C minus what they gave to their tulpas - so the super nice, silly Dougie went back to Vegas and the lazy, bad hair Dougie is gone too.

Very convincing theories and rewatching the series and the film I have become more convinced of the malevolent nature of both the dwarf and the Tremonds/Chalmonds. They dwell in this "otherworld" like chthonic spirits, it helps to interpret Twin Peaks in mythological terms as it is overtly mythological. The link to the horse makes perfect sense too and it wasn't until I rewatched the film I remembered it appears at Laura's death too, not just Maddie's. This will remind us, her presence at the hear of it all, of what Mike says about being "touched by the devilish one", and these ravenous, evil spirit figures ultimately have a mother of darkness to answer to. When it becomes clear Judy links to Sarah Palmer too, we must again remember how ambiguous time is throughout twin peaks, when these riddles are dropped both in the real world and in the black lodge, or by the fireman, they could relate to anywhere in the narrative, which leaves us asking, like we did with Leland, especially during the film, "when was she Sarah Palmer and when was she Judy?". The more I rewatch it the more I am disturbed by the notion Leland lost himself a long time ago, and that all the extreme outpouring of grief as well as his following mania episodes are Bob, not Leland, or perhaps Bob possessing Leland and openly feeding in his pain and sorrow within. The same could be said in hindsight of Sarah Palmer, who besides clearly being "gifted" (or damned?) enough to see Bob, likewise experiences grief as extremely as possible. After Leland dies especially we may recall Bob's remarks about Leland having "a black hole where his conscience used to be" and this is literally depicted with Sarah when she lifts off her face.
