"Life would be a lot easier to live if we talked about death now," Knox says. "We need to discuss these issues when we are fit and healthy so we can take the emotion out of it -- and then we can learn not just what is important, but why it's important."

I am a hospice nurse and your words are so true. I have been at the bedside of the dying at least 1000 times & so many times the living does not know what the dying want.

Amazing and important TED Talk. You get that the Host knows what she is talking about and i really liked listening to her. There are so many things to get complicated when a loved one dies. These complications could easily be avoided if discussed early. The death of a family member or friend should not be harder than it has to be. Thats why i wrote my will at 30, but after this video i will soon add some more things to it...

I deal with other people's unexpected deaths every day of my life for my job. The one thing that you can be certain of, your death will rarely come how you wish or when you wish. This talk is *so* on the nose for what you need to be thinking about now that you are alive and well.

In California, there is a memorial home where a natural burial is being made possible. In the UK I know that you're allowed to have a wicker coffin when you're buried, but every state, country and county has their own laws. Look up the regulations in your area and hopefully you should be able to find what you're looking for

I agree that talking more about death and our funeral can ease the sadness of the people surrounding us. It is like planning for a event without an exact date. When the day arrives, everyone would not be too shocked and sad as it is already planned and things will go on just as it is expected. It may be scary that not knowing our lives after we die, but when we can still have the power to plan for a comfortable leaving from this world, why not doing it?

great video. as a recent cancer survivor death is almost all that i think about but i do not fear it. I have faced it and we should all talk about how we want to go and what we want as our last wishes to leave our family in peace. I will go out with a jazz band and a comedian in a beautiful garden.

There's a place here in Portland that mixes your ashes into a CD and you can have your favorite songs burned on it. I'm thinking of doing that, but might change my mind. I'm a bit young to be thinking deeply about my death.

Everyone has their own expression of grief. Someone will always be offended by something someone says around the time of death. The grieving are overly sensitive and look for somewhere or someone to direct their anger toward.
