Don’t think Shell is trying to combat fake oil. High possibility it’s against oil from Tesco or Giant which is quite obvious as authentic. That’s the reason why Shell puts label ‘untuk pasaran Malaysia’ and not ‘hati hati minyak tiruan ‘

Tesco Shell engine oil does not have the Ilsac-gf-5 / gf6 certification which is more suitable for our climate and temperature. The one u buy from tesco are often imported from other countries with cooler climate that does not have the same certification except for Api/SN. Simply put "Untuk Pasaran Malaysia" is a very real thing, because the oil has been tweaked for our climate. you can buy 1 from tesco and 1 from shell malaysia. Pour them out, and notice they are not the same.

Oil from hyper market are parallel import oil which are for other markets and are totally legal to sell in Malaysia. If it is fake why no action taken so far. Hence, the stickers are merely local distributors’ commercial tactic to combat parallel import.

This is in addition to my humble comment: I am doubtful that you can get a winter spec oil in any of d hyper market even if you can buy winter clothing and adaptor. If anyone has doubt, chk your car suitability for d oil by reading d manual and d label. By d way, you really hv to order from amazon to get one for Alaska expedition.

Tan Sack Sen I think 4-seasons engine oil is more suitable to describe. All year winter engine oil I guess is something totally different I guess. But Europe country is using better/cleaner fuel than us in Msia; still euro2m for ron95. It is how well the additives in the oil of different regions to endure the different environment,temperature & fuel condition we used though ..

One quick question, for example Petronas Synthium series oil that are meant for Malaysian market are sold at very expensive price, while the imported version sold cheaper ? Most of the imported oil that are on the Tesco's & Giant's shelf in Malaysia out there are more cheap than that are sold on the petrol pump itself.

Black Rod I know. But imagine Petronas Synthium series. You can’t get any other place other than their petrol pump station. most spareparts shop would sell an imported petronas oil which is cheap and yet doubting for it authenticity

I m using oil from Hypermarket for so many years , mostly fully synthetic and my last car give me more than 500k km mileage without any problem before I sold it. What FAKE ? ?

first of all. What car are u using that can reach 500k mileage? I am really interested to know. My mom's Hyundai Matrix (Inokom) reached 300+k mileage after 10 years. Now keep in out bengkel (maybe because i keep go 140-160 kmph balik kampung). Now cannot tahan, my mom surveying SUV and she seems interested with CRV.

@@MohdZufar Most can reach high Mileage with proper care. What's important is to always use genuine parts(OEM or renowned aftermarket brand) and on time service. Don't buy the Taiwan or Chinese spare parts with unknown quality

Why Petronas Europe cheaper than Petronas Malaysia? Shell as well, Hong Kong version cheaper and with API SP compare to Shell Malaysia which only API SN... Shell Malaysia doesn't buy API SP license but price still markup high.

Hmm I've heard one Honda SC does supply fake oils, the employee told me, he gets 6 months bonus for past two years, not sure its legit anot. Kinda worry because I sell engine oils too, and its impossible to check as we can't open those bottles.

When buying oil from a lesser known brand, I always check whether the engine oil brand is on the American Petroleum Institute(API) list of licensed product. This can be done by visiting API's website. If the brand is on the list, this would give me a peace of mind to buy the oil as its quality has been tested and verified. Another tip is to buy from authorised dealer only to prevent from any risk of getting an imitation product.

What if the engine calls for 6L of engine oil or whatever odd ball numbers >4L? The service package they offer online also states that “local oil filter” will be used, afaik most European cars use Hengst/Mann/Mahle filters, what they mean by local? lol

Those are EU spec oil, if u take four seasons out of context, maybe you can use.

@Black Rod okay put it this way, you might find the same engine oil viscosity like 10W30 in EU or Malaysia made oil, but if you look at the api, it might differ, one might be SL, the other similar one might be SN, same goes with api CF-4 or CK with same engine oil, I'm not saying all but certain brands definitely does it. In another scenario, Malaysia official distributors or suppliers might be affected by hypermarket's 'throwing price' action, where they didn't get the eo from official distributors here, instead they import the stock from third party which imports all these oil into Malaysia, that plus rampant fake oils in the market, its not really a good scene for us oil dealers. And also, EU formulation might differ from us, as they have EU emissions standard which is already different from US, so I don't see why it will be the same for asia. Sekian.

@Black Rod and if you say formulation doesn't matter, try using s-oil, hyo and royal purple with same viscosity. If you can't find, try local boscher, QQ and Castrol 20w50, and observe how they pour, same viscosity judging with the W index doesn't mean anything. Don't give me a NO, without hearing me out.

I save a lot of money by not changing the oik. I only change the oil filter and fill it up with oil. I been doing that for 20 years and never had any problem. Biggest wear on the engine happens every startup after changing oil & oil filter.
