As a Black girl, I like all kinds of races/cultures of guys. In my opinion, it really comes down to what you observed as the norm and what your preferred situation is. What is a given girl/woman used to experiencing? What has she been taught? Heck, where does she live and where is she from? That impacts her mindset for the dating scene, usually regardless of race. For me, growing up, all I ever saw/heard were things leading up to "If a guy likes you, he'll approach. If he doesn't approach, he's not really interested and you'll just set yourself up to get embarrassed (mercilessly) if you pre-empt him. Even a shy guy, if he really wants you, will do something. Curious /=/ romantic interest. Thinks you're cool to hang with sometimes =/= romantic interest." So my stance evolved into not doing or saying anything if a guy doesn't approach. I'm just too used to guys /not/ being subtle about their interest, or the nature of that interest (good or bad, sweet or shady) - that's where that flirt balloon analogy fits. Now when a nice gentleman comes along, with some charm and tact, it gets lost in my obliviousness. For me, you're just being nice. It doesn't mean that you're interested /romantically/. I also find it difficult to even determine if a guy is open to dating outside of their race. Sure, guys may be just as puzzled, but I'm just giving a reason why that non-Asian might not approach. Something I've noticed, especially in the Asian community, is that guys tend to stick with what they know. Stay inside that cultural lane. If I do see an Asian guy with someone, it's usually a white girl. Same for Asian women. I'd take the advice of gathering up your nerve and saying something (especially in the USA). It's easy to say "Take some initiative and talk to him", but I've found that many guys don't seem to like that. They want to be the one to make the move. So that leaves me (and those like me) to wait around and maybe try to drop hints, hoping that the hints are enough and that the guy is mutually interested if he does notice those hints. I think I'll take that online dating suggestion under serious advisement though.

Hey, thank you for your well-thought comment.  I agree that Asian guys should try to approach more women "outside of the box."  However, I think non-Asian women (black, white, latino, etc.) make it easier if they make themselves approachable.  Including dropping hints that it's ok for an Asian guy to show interest in them. Frankly, sometimes I can't tell.

As an asian man who was originally from Asia, lived here for 14 years got americanized. I had a self limiting belief that different races did not like me. But in the last few years, i found out it was all in my head. I have dated just about every ethnicity now, stop letting society, self limiting beliefs, internalized racism, and playing the victim. I like all types of guys! In general, yeah I like Asian guys, Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Chinese, Thai, etc. As long as I find you attractive, I'll like you. You could be a 6ft Japanese/Puerto Rican, soccer player, living in London, with sexy facial hair and a great smile, but if your aura looks like Oscar the grouch, i'm NOT going to like you. If you ask me, "hey do you think i'm sexy", i'd honestly say "Well, yeah you look sexy, (by society's standards) but do I find you sexy? No." I feel more Asian guys should just work on having more confidence. Like you could live right next door to the average looking white guy, who goes skiing in Vermont with his friends every Winter and probably has had six girlfriends in the past year. You yourself may have gone on a few holiday trips with him and his friends, but the only thing holding you back is the lack of having a girlfriend?! Well, did you approach as many girls as he approached in the past year, did you even flirt with any of them? If your answers are no, then stop complaining. (At least in the US) We live in a society where the man initiates the courting of the woman. Some cases granted it's the other way around (and if I really like the guy, i'll go ahead and initiate everything, until he realizes, he's the man and he starts taking hint, that if he wants to keep me, he'll have to start playing the dominant role). The truth is alot of Asian guys are just socially awkward and do not have the courage to step out of their comfort zone and alot of them believe what hollywood says about them being "weak and undesirable" and most of the time they would rather play it safe by taking what comes in their way. Hola Andrew ;) I've had asian bfs. I had to be more obvious with 2. The other 3 naturally approached me. There might be some factors as to why those three had the courage to do so. One was hapa (half asian half white), second guy was adopted into an American family and the third was really confident. Maybe because he had a nice car and his family owned a store? So I randomly stumbled upon this video and as someone who is clearly non-Asian, I completely agree with the guys in this video, men you need to step your game up. I think all Asian men are hot and would love to date the rainbow that makes up the Asian community, but it never seems like they are into people that look like me. I know a lot of it has to do with familial pressure and unless you come from a very non-traditional family, the last person you are allowed to bring home is someone who is non-Asian and if you must they had better not be Black. So this sounds all well and good that Asian men will date non-Asian women, but they are really going to have to start standing up to their families in order to put it into practice.

Interesting. I have been befriended by that one Asian guy in class, at work, or while out with friends. They are cool. In diverse regions of the country, I see asian men holding non-asian women hands. If you live in towns and out skirts of America, it's the opposite. I lived in small towns all my life and never see inter racial couples so going to big cities are culture shocks to me. Generally asian men are shorter than average height non-asian women therefore the idea of non-asian women want a taller man eliminates majority of asian men.

Ok like me for instance what made me interested in Asian culture was watching the film called "THE LAST EMPEROR" which is a Chinese based movie, so of course I was on a EVERYTHING CHINESE KICK ! (I even went to the forbidden city in Beijing bc the movie was so fascinating to me) Until I learned there's more to asian culture than the infamous forbidden city. So it just depends on that persons introduction and if they're willing to widen/broaden their horizons.
