I was recovering from bronchial pneumonia so if I seem off or slower than usual, thats my excuse.

I read that the ancient Greeks competed in the Olympics nude with shimmering gold paint all over so that the sun glistened off their physiques. It was about vanity. They knew back then that lifting and training sculpted their physiques and they were showcasing them.

27:12 this was something I wish I had realized earlier, but even getting some Danaher instructionals, he doesn't do "flashy" stuff, most of his instructions are just variations on fundamentals

The double collar tie used to be legal in wrestling and I was taught a lot off that position. In fact, Billy Martin, the founder of the Granby School of Wrestling did a lot of that. It’s not as advantageous as you think. They got rid of it in wrestling because it’s a stalling/stalemate position. Same with interlocking fingers. Wrestling has made efforts to get rid of positions where there’s the potential for no action. Also, you can lock your hands in top turtle position in Greco and Freestyle. It also is not advantageous for controlling someone from standing up…in fact, it’s quite easy to get to the quadpod and stand up. The reason they don’t stand up in freestyle or greco is because they will get supplexed and lose a ton of points (touch fall in my day). On the instructional, I show why locking hands in the quadpod isn’t really a control position and teach how to break down the quadpod by removing posts. This is because once someone gets to that position, locking hands is pointless. The only reason it’s not allowed in high school and college is because you aren’t working towards a pin, so it’s parallel riding which is stalling

I'll leave a question as you requested some! I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this- I'm around 52kg and I have developed an intense fixation on who I roll with based on a few bad experiences I've had rolling with inexperienced young guys who try to dominate me aggressively as opposed to use technique and adapt to someone smaller. I'm trying to not be too cautious about this and I have become more selective about who I roll with now that I'm nearly a year in to training, but I'm concerned that limiting who I roll with may hold me back and limit my progression. Do you have any advice for me in terms of how I manage this concern in a way that doesn't ultimately limit my growth but also keeps me safe? Thanks :)

Hi there! At 115lbs you’re not going to be able to work on your game properly against most people at your gym. When you roll, the deciding factors on who is more dominant are: size, strength, and technique. If your training partner is bigger, stronger and has been training long than you then all you can work on is defence. My advice, and I mean no disrespect, is to look to train offense against women and teenagers at your gym. Of course be respectful but you need to have some kind of advantage over your training partner to train your “A”game.

Explain it to your training partner, if they dont loosen up, dont roll anymore with them. You need people who care and have good attitude to properly work on stuff and not be dominated by strength only

I think the reason for people fighting naked was to make the fighters feel as vulnerable as possible in front of the spectators. Also consider a lot of the times the people fighting were probably slaves. Funny enough we get pretty dang close to it in mma fights 😂 getting in front of all those people in vale tudo shorts is crazy

Someone I know was a 4 stripe brown belt, wore his spare belt with no stripes on it and marcelo "promoted" him to 1 stripe brown belt I can understand in a big school losing track of your lower belts but to not know how close your brown belts are to black belt? Come on now
