@@roydean Hello, what type of passing is Mr. Harris doing? Especially on that first roll? He seems to be slowly climbing up the body while dealing with frames and eventually half guard.

@@Merlin09hot around 1:45, he does a back step to side control, after the pass you want to immediately control your opponents hips to prevent an escape or recovery, and Master Harris very cleverly grabs the legs to do that. Then he transitioned to mount. So the type of passing based on my observation is very high pressure, once he puts his weight down, it will feel impossible to move. You can see how low he sinks his hips and upper body during each pass

One thing you notice with black belts, like Roy Harris, is they always move with purpose and efficiency. There is little wasted movements at all.

Studying this footage is going to be so much fun. I'd love to know your thoughts on the purple belt game of 2006 vs today. Of course everyone's game is different, but if there are any comparable commonalities/ traits shared amongst purple belts, it would be interesting to know what they are to better understand how BJJ has evolved over time.

2006 purple belts would get tapped by most average blue belts of today. The game has evolved too much.

I disagree people don't understand the basic fundamentals of jiujitsu. The athleticism/ TRT is off the charts but there is nothing new under the sun especially in jiu-jitsu. Like the musamechi lock. That's straight Sambo. I just feel grappling is growing more popular and no gi is blowing up as a trend.

It's all about the individual. Nowadays you are likely seeing more stand up and toe activation, maybe berimbolo or "modern" styles too.

He kept going for the 4 finger thumb out grip on the lapel in mount during the first roll. Really wanted to see what he was setting up!

Some form of a paper cutter or X choke. The threat of paper cutter then opens up the opponents arm. But he settled for arm triangle because there was opportunity

I love watching these kinds of videos, I use them to analyze the system, just in case. However, I am sure I would never run into someone with such skill on the street. But you can never be too safe. Try to be ready for anything from the basic no nothing thug to the "Master" of whatever they train.

No wasted movement or excess in strength. Very controlled throughout the roll, Professor seems to be like water. The purple belt, I hear the little hamsters in his brain running on the wheel while he was thinking everything through. The ability to see the move open up and then the next two within seconds is nothing you can be taught, only time and experience can unlock that BJJ super power.
