Goof is slang for child molester/abuser in canadian prison It's a weird piece of slang because its only really in prison and among ex-cons that it really carries that huge context and constitutes fighting words

Closed guard. It's not so much being "non nonchalant " as not being intimidated or afraid of it. Not so much now, a few years later, but when I was about a 6 month white belt and went to a friend's gym open mat it was the first time I dealt with a lot of open guard playing. I had not trained a lot of open guard passing yet. So, I got frustrated, and decided to accept getting caught in their closed guard because I had more experience passing closed guard. It worked for me most of the time, especially if they were close to my size and experience, and I was able to pass. Recovery Time. You kids really don't know what's coming, but you seem to have a handle on it now when you're younger, which is good. I didn't start BJJ until my late 50's, and sometimes now it takes me two days to recover between classes, more if the last class was especially intense or physically hard on me. I suspect that by the time a black belt who started in their 20's or 30's gets to my age they have the ability to train with less physical exertion. I'm still improving and learning this. With partners closer to my size, age, but less experienced I have enjoyed working more technical with less physical exertion, and my gas tank lasts longer. Relaxing. It is beneficial to relax mentally and emotionally. Be intentional and in control of your training.

The reason you tell people they shouldn’t try to win every round is because you want them to improve skills and explore outside of their comfort zone. That doesn’t happen if you tell people: BEAT THAT PERSON! Way more efficient to say something like: “don’t allow grips with the feet” or “isolate a limb every chance you get” fir example. It is more focused and allows people to learn against people that are way better or way worse than they are

“don’t allow grips with the feet” or “isolate a limb every chance you get” are great task focusses and can be "wins" in for a game within a CLA model of teaching. Winning isnt always submission. winning can be any proactive action that we deem as success within a round
@leroysoesman82154 ай бұрын
@@JoeyBoretski Yeah so, I tell people to “stop trying to win every round” when they always try to outscore or outsubmit their partner. Because only for a select group does that behavior lead to efficient learning. Once you subscribe to winning by your own metric that means you could win a round that would otherwise be scored as a loss. I wouldn’t say you disagree with the statement Heck, i have sparred rounds where I deliberately try to get submitted in a certain way without my partner knowing that. Just so I can get a feel for the parameters of a submission move or sequence

For sure! I don't think "win the roll" is the right mentality all the time. but should be at least some of the time imo.

@@talkjitsu for sure! At some point I want to test the skills i’ve developed. But more importantly “winning a fight” (submitting and outscoring) involves tactics and strategy, if you never try to win a round you’ll never learn those. Imo that makes competitors so dangerous

the tip i give white and blue belts the most is to always prioritize taking the top side underhook
@zakstephenson45454 ай бұрын
In saying this the nearside underhook is equally amazing and people tend to forget about it when they are good at defending the far side underhook...

When you call someone a goof that's fighting words! LOL.. I worked in Federal corrections for a decade, when an inmate calls another guy a good,. Or if you're an officer and call an inmate a good, it's game time!

Don’t fight if you really don’t need to most times when people calling you names they have a weapon of some sort knife or gun . Just walk away we all know you could kick his ass 100%

We almost went 20 mins without saying "eco"! This is to Jordan. Youre referencing one of the principles of CLA btw. "constrain to afford" ("shes not allowed to americana") That exists completely independent of anything to do with Ecodynamic systems or Ecological psychology/philosophy.

Relaxing is unrealistic , there is no time to relax in competition , i think you go hard in training and competition , Jiu Jitsu is about submitting your opponent so im going to try hard to get that sub .
