Waiting to boil over when someone calls them out on their bullshit. Instead, their only desire is to speak to you to attempt covert you. It’s say’s a lot about their true character.

Sorry for writing such a long note, and thank you for reding it. I would love to hear your opinions and please enlighten me wherever I am wrong. It was a typical discussion between a bigot believer and a logical man. The atheist (Heaten) was all the time trying to calm Jerry (the believer) down by a nice , calm voice and based whatever he was saying on logical reasoning. Jerry on the other hand was repeating what he had already said 200 times and he was almost screaming. Jerry's argument was something like this: 2+2 is 5 and you must believe it because the Bible says so. When Heathen demonstrated the mistakes of the Bible, Jerry screamed even louder and said : You read the Bible but you do not understood it. ( As if only Jerry is smart enough to understand a book which has copy pasted some fables ( like the story of Abraham and etc) from other cultures, like old Persian mythology, into the old and new testament. Almost all the discussions with religious people ( who have never dared to use their brain and are scared of critical thinking , is similar to this one . They claim that whatever is in their scripture is correct because it is the word of God but they all fail miserably to demonstrate : 1- there is God 2- the scripture is really revealed by him. As an answer to the above 2 questions we always get the same answer : You must have faith ( which essentially means: believe in it without any good evidence or logic , and never doubt or question it). How can anyone convince such a mindset, brainwashed since the birth, of the truth? Listening to such religious people with such a mindset makes me sometimes very frustrated. Here is a funny ( at the same time kind of sad truth) : Until 10-15 years ago I wouldn't believe that such a close minded, illogical people existed. Do you know why? Because I was myself one them with the exactly the same attitude and mindset. Any way, this is what I have found out: In short : faith kills rationality and logic. I really don't intend to insult anyone but I sincerely believe that faith is a kind of sickness of brain (mind) ad such a people need help. The funny part ( perhaps dangerous would be a better word. Especially in the case of Islam , since I was a muslim once) : We sincerely want to help them to open their eyes but they are taught by Allah that we must be killed because we don't believe in that imaginary, despotic dictator, misogynistic and ignorant being as a God.

It is an art to get these people to realize what they are doing there. You have to take them along, tempt them to talk, want you to understand, so much that they go outside of the bubble of ready-made recitals and THINK about how to express it themselves, in other words. And once you got them out of their holy, untouchable words, you can question them about those. And make them see the issues THERE. And then lead them back carefully "But what you said yourself and what you said is problematic is what you said is the meaning of your holy text. Does the problem apply to that as well?" They have to (re)learn how to think on their own, about WHAT they think and WHY. And one has to plant the seed of curiosity, that it is INTERESTING to find stuff out, find it out on your own, go where YOU want to, and not where someone else determined where you want to go.

The Medes and the Persians are two separate empires. They are conflated in Christian theology ( and only in Christian theology) in order for the prophecy to make sense. Originally this prophecy pointed to the Greeks, but after the Greeks were replaced by the Romans as the dominant force in the region, the prophecy would have been wrong unless they reinterpreted it as the Medes and the Persians being the same empire. The evidence this caller is pointing to as proof of God is actually proof of Biblical errancy.

"If you only study the Bible" he says... which assumes that the person he's talking to HASN'T studied it. Usually turns out that the person pushing the Bible, as evidence, hasn't actually studied it as deeply as the person he's trying to convince. Daniel, it appears, was written after most of the purported prophecies it is said to contain. Daniel's contrived "prophecies" are a pretty good example. The writer makes mistakes about the historical era in which the book pretends to have been written, is very accurate about the later era in which it probably WAS written, and then is mostly wrong about times after that. The most logical conclusion is that Daniel doesn't contain genuine prophecy.

Jerry says the key point at 15:00 common to many apologists when Bible verses are brought up: "Just because you've heard one interpretation of it doesn't mean you've heard the correct one." The correct one always being that of their particular sect or denomination, when there are usually other equally valid competing interpretations. Continuing the conversation past that point is jumping into the theological briar patch, with the speakers reciting Bible verses back and forth, along with what they claim to be the "correct interpretation" or "what it really means."

They're either trying to avoid a trap they think is there, or refusing to answer, or don't see the point so ignore it.. If Fred wants to convince Jerry of something, then Fred needs to adapt his message to meet Jerry in Jerry's own headspace. If Jerry has answers, Fred must answer them. Avoiding them for any reason weakens the argument. If Fred doesn't feel comfortable answering the question, he can say that but should still address it directly anyway. If asked a simple binary yes/no question, answer yes or no THEN add qualifiers and clarifications. But answer the question first.

Talk about the past isn't prophecy. The stuff about Nebuchadnezzar was written after he lived, not before. As for telling Nebuchadnezzar about the countries that would come, it doesn't name any of them, it makes vague statements about iron and clay toes that people attached to countries after the fact. Saying something vague and super-metaphorical and then assigning it a specific interpretation after a specific thing happened isn't prophecy either, not in any honest or meaningful way.

I strongly feel that if someone is preaching its a big warning that they are pushing a delusion and feel insecure unless they can convince others of it.
