Basenjis are frequently referred to as "the barkless dog." This should be amended to "the barkless yet incessantly caterwauling dog." I love 'em!

Nothing wrong with a dog barking or singing. I have a Norwegian Elkhound who seldom barks, and they are supposed to be heard from the other side of the fjord. He gave a sort of whistling whimper when he heard Gingersnap talking.

When I was in high school in the 60's, a friend of mine got one of these dogs. I smoked cigarettes back then and had a habit of leaving the pack sitting beside me. That dog would steal the pack, take it a dozen feet away and then destroy the package, leaving all the cigarettes in a neat pile, unharmed. Then, I swear, that dog would laugh at me!
@fuzzyarmadillo13205 жыл бұрын
I had a longhaired dachshund named Haylie Marie. She was a paper addict so she wanted the box and she broke the cigarettes just to get the box. So sometimes her middle name was Haylie because her first name became Damnit. She never ate the cigarettes. Smart dog she knew they were poison and yes I still smoke them.

I had a Norwegian Elkhound who, when I was slicing leftover beef tenderloin for my Mom's sandwich, said, "I wanna!" Even my Mom's caregiver heard it clearly. A few seconds later when I slipped and dropped the paper plate with the sliced beef on it, Moose said, "All righty!" Again, both my Mom and the caregiver heard it. Moose would vocalize like that when she yawned, a sweet girl devoted to my Mom in her declining years.

Awe give that poor baby a reward for doing a shake. Even after they learn the trick after giving enticing treats, I still always reward my dogs with a small treat for life. They expect it, especially Basenji’s because they are emotional dogs. I learned they take a lot of things to heart & this also reassures their bond of trust with you. This reminded me of my beloved Basenji. After watching this, I just wanted to grab her & hug & kiss her because they are so precious!

Thanks for sharing this. Your Basenji is so beautiful, affectionate, sweet, and interactive. I recently became curious about the Basenji yodel after years of watching the Westminster Kennel Club show. Though I haven’t had the pleasure of being a human to a dog, I am one to a very sweet and interactive cockatiel named Chipper who, similarly to your dog, responds vocally when I talk to him. It’s amazing how much animals can make such differences in our lives. If I ever have a chance to get a dog, I’m pretty sure that it would be a Basenji from what I’ve been reading regarding compatibility and space. Thanks again for sharing.

missing basenjis. . of course I can no longer have one.. From reading 'Good bye, my Lady" as a teenager, then seeing the film a few years later, I had to have one, so as soon as we were married, and my first child was born we tracked down our first puppy, From that time on, all through our family life there were always one or two little dogs in our life. Three rescue dogs lived to 17, the next one developed Fanconi syndrome, who was my heartbreak kid, but because of her the breed research has meant selective breeding to rule out that illness. and then we bought our final pup, just a little baby, number 7, who lived till she was 10. So i have had to move into a smaller home, and don't have knees for doggy walking. and I am missing those little creature. BUT enjoyed this video, and the memory of those sounds in our home
