I live where Peterson taught and was familiar with him before he became a celebrity. It was always obvious to me that he was just a con-artist. He has enough knowledge to provide him with spurious examples and nifty-sounding phrases. People read into them whatever they want, and Peterson knows that. It's no different from the way people read absolutely anything they want into the Bible.

I'd personally describe him more as a grifter, but I don't think it's outlandish to describe what he's doing as conning his audience by appealing to their "common sense" in a particularly reactionary uneducated audience to give them a pseudo-intellectual excuse to reaffirm what they're told to be mad about because college words sound smart.

Long before Peterson lost his mind, he told an interviewer about how he could not possibly know that he wasn’t supposed to hit on female coworkers if they wore lipstick. This was years and years ago. The interviewer, a man, was at a loss as how to respond. Not only is it gross as it ignores that there are several occupations in which makeup is borderline mandatory. Either way, it is not a “pass” for creepos to hit on. Men and women working together is not something new to the wider public, so he has no excuse. Zero. And this on top of everything else.
