I have been to almost all South America countries, know a lot about Latin culture, and I still found this video very interesting! You have to live in Colombia for quite some time, curious about their culture, blend in into their community, observe their behaviors in order to make that type of comments. Hats off to David! Thank you so much! (To David, you never talk too much! That's what we the KZbin audience is for! To listen to your story).

Great video and awesome colab. I am Middle Eastern, and no matter what Latin American country I go to I blend in so well especially as I am tanned. When you talk about blending in, it’s not only a question of wearing shorts or pants but also the quality of clothes you wear. As a woman I never wear anything that is expensive, that is foreign, or that may draw attention, including jewelry, and watches. Most thieves will notice. I can also point out foreign tourists just by reading the brand of backpack, sneakers, T-shirts or jackets they have. This can make them a target for thieves. Because of the problems in Venezuela, many desperate Venezuelans, come to Colombia, and some unfortunately turned to crime. The first time I was in Bogotá I nearly had my cell phone pickpocketed, but I felt it right away and stopped the thief then I looked at him right in the eye. He was shameless and acted like nothing happened. Thanks for this video, love Lifewithdavid and love you guys as well! 😊

I live in Bangkok and I love it. As a longtime expat/world traveller I would say "this dating advice" applies to every country a foreigner lives in. There are girls in nightclubs & bars. And girls you meet from friends, at a coffee shop, a dinner party, social events, a mall, a jogging club, art exhibits, and many other social places. Learning languages is a huge plus in all foreign countries. And stay in shape, no matter what culture it is. I recently lost 40 lbs. last year and many more girls smile at me now. LOL.

Funny, I'm a native of Washington, DC (born and bred), which at one time was the homicide capital of the US. Living there, though, I never gave it a second thought! I'm going to Bogota next year in April (my first time in South America), and I'm a little bit worried, even though from every account I've heard so far, it's perfectly safe! Just use your common sense and take the same reasonable precautions you would in any large city! I've also read that Colombia is a terrific country for lesbian and gay life! There's even a gay hotel in Bogota, the San Sebastian, which is where I'll be staying! I'm brushing up on my Spanish and can hardly wait!

Social life is stronger than in other countries and also family social life. When you are dating or marrying a Colombian you need to know yo are also dating or marrying his or her family. It means you are always involved in a social event like a birthday, a wedding, a party, a visit, a graduation, a funeral, a picnic or the famous weekend social gathering in farms, beaches or family trips. If you say no you will be seen as an antisocial person who needs a medical treatment. Women and family member don’t pay bills in general. If you are inviting them you need to make clear how are you going to pay the bills. If you are in a group of people don’t expect individual bills but just dividing the whole bill by number of people. Parties are also different. You bring liquor and food to a party but you need to know it will be for everybody. This is something that will tell everybody a lot about yourself and your social skills if you don’t know how to share liquor or food with others you will lose points or miles.

I love this video... the cultural differences are so true. I travel to Panama and it is the same way. Men wear pants and I always find out what the culture of a place is before I go so I won't stand out. I remember being in Panama and a friend who is Panamanian and I had this discussion. He said, when you are there in Panama they can spot a tourist from a mile away because they are wearing shorts and they are not playing sports. He asked what do people in the US think of someone who wears pants all the time? I told him they don't really stick out or people don't really pay that much attention to them that much unless it is really hot. I said, if it's real hot and you are not an older person and you have jeans on they just think you are literally crazy... not necessarily a foreigner... just crazy. He thought that was hilarious.

Hi Sam and David , I have been watching your videos for almost 6 months. It is very intellectual when compared to others give more emphasis to only local woman in those countries. Even though I am foreigner living in USA for 40 years since I was a 24 years old, when people say American woman are bad and opportunistic kind hurt my heart. Always we have good and bad people everywhere. That is the reason I like your channel because you never say American woman are bad. I am a IT guy with Ph. D in mathematics and computer science. Anyway I will come to the point , I plan to setup IT computer training and Software consulting in South America. Plan to go to Brazil and Argentina after pandemic is officially gone for good. How is Colombia for IT training and consulting? Anyway thanks for keeping your channel very descent. I believe you’re born in a good family. God bless you.

I just got back from two months in Medellin. Lived in Laureles, Poblado (Manila), and Envigado. GREAT PLACE! WONDERFUL people! Beautiful women!! Delicious food too! Notwithstanding, and although maybe OK to gringos when asking directions, what I don't agree with in this video, is the guest's assessment of the Medellin police. Especially, the horrible USMED (the anti-riot police). People from the USA need to know -- the police all over Colombia, although it is mostly still happening in Cali, have already murdered over 47 protestors when I left in June (and the protests had just started this April 2021). Over 80 other people had DISAPPEARED so they're probably dead. 90% are college-aged, so essentially children!.....There's a bunch of videos out there of the police shooting at protestors, breaking business' glass windows so they would have an excuse to harm protestors, etc. The Colombian PD have been so abusive that the United Nations had gotten involved. I have a great video that I had made from the steps of my apartment, of the police chasing protestors and shooting tear gas canisters at them -- if anyone want's to see it, shoot me your email address......But YES, the Medellin police will probably not ask you for a bribe unless you are Colombian.

Aside from personal things, I am looking for answers to questions like: - Can I start a business in Colombia without losing my US citizenship? - What legal documents are required in order to create an LLC or Corporation? - Can you connect me with Colombians who speak english that are looking for jobs that pay around four times more than the colombian minimum wage? Etc... If you have the answers to these questions, I would be really eager to have a consultation for an hour or two. You mean Swiss people in general? I think most people still believe the bad stereotype, but the younger generation is starting to make their own impressions by traveling to Colombia and other countries that are portrayed ad "bad" and "super dangerous". That's actually another reason why we started this channel to dismiss the bad stereotypes.
