Regarding the table.. .maybe you can get a custom made tempered glass surface to put on top of it? Then it will be real easy to clean👍
@martegulbrandsen13085 жыл бұрын
@Rover’s Makeover Dog Grooming You may be right, it was just a suggestion 👍 But I know there's a lot of good glass out there to buy now, that should survive almost anything. Even a kid with autism. But, I am no expert, I just thought it was so sad to see their beautiful new table covered in plastic.

Agreed the glass would be a great solution or even some acrylic? Idk if that is the correct name but my mom bought a big piece in home depot for a table and cut it to size. Cause cleaning those crevices is a pain in the butt

Working as a special education teacher with kids who are both verbal and non verbal I totally get what you say and we always say “Communication is so much more then speaking”. I have found that some of my students who are verbal have more issues with appropriate communication then my non verbal students which is why I have pictures all over the classroom and use visual supports for all students because it just lessens the frustration and increases appropriate communication. I find myself playing the 20 questions game with my verbal students way more frequently because while they can communicate it is not always accurate and can lead to a lot of confusion where non verbal students are using pictures, gestures, and/or communication devices and they tend to be more accurate with their wants and needs.

My neighborhood (and more specifically the part of my apt complex we live in) loses power all the time, so I felt that struggle lol. Noah's bed looks awesome! I've been curious about the Lull mattress...guess we'll see. Hang in there! My 8 year old nephew can say some words, but is still mostly nonverbal. I can see how both verbal and nonverbal have their struggles. Be sure to take care of yourself in there too! ❤

Thank you for that little explanation at the end. My son is verbal and Autistic, but a lot of people think he isnt Autistic because he can speak. Speaking and communication are different things and you're right, it doesnt mean we struggle less if we can speak.

I agree with you 100%. My son was what they say partially autistic and ADHD. He is of course still autistic. He is 19 years old. Nobody understands me when I say that he has a hard time finding a job because of interviews. Because a lot of the question he does not understand and I don't know if you met my son you would not know until you talk to him for a little bit. He can't understand things would like we do he need he expressed himself the way others do so I wish more people knew about this has more open about it but we cant do anything but educate and hope for the best. U have such a beautiful family

I can relate to what you are saying so much. My son is verbal but has never been able to communicate well at all. One of my worst moments as an autism mom was when my son was around 10. It's always been a struggle to get him to eat. One night at dinner he kept leaving the table and when I asked why he wouldn't/couldn't answer. I had him come back multiple times to take a few more bites. I thought his adhd was kicking in and he didn't want to sit down. He ended up throwing up all over the floor. He had a stomach bug and wasn't able to communucate to me that he was ill. I felt absolutely terrible and to this day it still makes me sick. It's frustrating to want to do the very best for your child and be in the dark about what they need or are feeling.

Instead of the plastic on the table, you may want to try and put a glass top or a hard plastic cut to size. We did that on our table and it was great and was so easy to clean up with cleaning spray and a soft cloth.

Love this video! Lex and Liam are so cute together! Yeah it's hard when your child is nonverbal but it's also hard when your child is verbal but has trouble with social niceties and communication. When I first saw Noah I thought he was high-functioning but really he's verbal but has trouble with nonverbal communication. And the intellectual disability probably has something to do with it too although now they don't rely on IQ they rely on adaptive skills. Anyway Noah is a smart and cool kid and I think the sky is the limit for him. Good luck to your family!

I completely understand about the communication with autism. My older brother is non verbal autism and the only way he communicate with us is through body language so if he wants something then he will point to it, and keep pointing to it till we figure it out. If we show him something then he will either push it away (lightly) or grab it off us or grab someone arm and walk off with it. My brother is on such a strict schedule (due to other reason I prefer not to into on social media) that it's easy to understand what he want's at certain times. Have you thought about getting flash cards of items Lex like? To help build up the communication and get him to show you what he wants. It's a lot of work but it helps

Xero RPG my twin brother is still like this and we’re 17 now. After years of trying to get a diagnosis my family finally found a doctor that agreed to do extensive testing and he got diagnosed with moderate autism at 14. He could talk all day about hid obsessions but can’t tell us that he is hungry or upset, he’s really smart so doctors didn’t believe my mom when he was little. I believe that if he had gotten early intervention services, he would be way better at coping than he is. It’s a journey
