All spoilers allowed - if you don't like 'em, beat it!
Okay, marathon's done, so here's my short piece collecting my thoughts on the broader Kingdom Hearts plot, or more specifically, the optics of the franchise, the delivery of the plot, and miscellaneous ideas regarding the online discourse of Kingdom Hearts.
This features stuff from X, and a bit from Re:Mind and Melody of Memory - no the spoilers aren't awful and pervasive, and I'm not that into talking actual plot points (see video), but I have to stress that they're present if you really wanna dive in.
I actually don't like releasing videos with minimal, uh, curation, like this one (I mean it was rigged together in less than a week) but I hope it's entertaining regardless!

My issue with Kingdom Hearts' story is honestly mostly presentational; namely, that Nomura kept using the secret endings to imply that Kingdom Hearts was actually this huge, complicated meta narrative that was conceived long ago and would be slowly unveiled over time. You know, as opposed to what it actually was, which was a bunch of stuff he made up as he went along and a bunch of ideas he crammed in because he happened to be thinking of them the day the script was due. Like, it's abundantly clear to me _now_ that all the theorizing people are doing is pointless because the next Kingdom Hearts story has probably changed fifty times since the last one was released and will probably change fifty more before somebody pulls Nomura away from the keyboard, but that's not how it was sold to me back _then._ I was a child, I bought into the hype. Now that I'm older and know better, I can more readily roll with the wacky punches, but I'm still a little annoyed that he's _still_ trying to pull this con.

You make a good point this is my personal opinion but I feel like Nomura wants to give it a really good story the is constantly expanding while fulfilling its audience but if he just so happens to piss Disney off in the slightest way, his "world" will ultimately come crashing down and will give us an either crap ending or a wrap up that will have more plot hole than we already have but I do see what you mean

Looking at how union ended and how other parts of the series have panned out its hard to believe he made most of it up on the spot. I just played through a bunch of games and watched a bunch of lore vids over the last 2 weeks to catch back up the lore with union getting its ending. Overall it seems like to many plot points connect back and forth well enough that with retrospective he had thought about a lot of the story beforehand minus the very small number of ret cons

My biggest point of interest with KH story was the characters and the emotional moments. I couldn't care less about the linking pieces of the overrall narrative if the emotional core is strong. That's why I like games like BBS in spite of its narrative and gameplay problems. The point is that, to me, KH3 failed hard on that regard. Characters lack agency, the heroes are all satellites to Sora, long awaited reunions are just brushed off to follow the rushed ending, Kairi's nothingness both as a character and a heroine, etc. The game sometimes felt like it just wanted to end things quickly and proceed to the next Arc of the series, throwing out years of anticipation and foreshadowing

Thank you for bringing up the controversy surrounding newcomers reviewing the game! I specifically remember this occurring with Angry Joe when he expressed a desire to review KH3. Fans and very prominent members of the community were quick to jump down his throat and gate keep him so hard that he ended up dropping all ambition of reviewing the game and calling the fan base elitist(which I can understand given the response he got). The newcomer perspective was an incredibly valid and necessary one for any established franchise. Arguably more so than usual with KH3 considering the noticeably increased marketing push the game was receiving, 13 years of hype following the end of KH2 (I know it wasn't in development that long but for god's sake, the end of KH2 showed that the story was not over), and the fact that it was the first Kingdom Hearts to release on an Xbox. There were going to be a lot of people jumping into the series for the first time with KH3 and they really needed reviews from their perspective. And the game did recognize that they needed to account for newcomers, that's why Square put the memory archive in. And to think that a professional reviewer would trash a game beyond belief because they were lost by starting at the culminating chapter is a bit of a leap to make. Not to say it wasn't done, but plenty of them would have recognized that they would have understood more if they played earlier games and probably have recommended that newcomers start with the collections. The fact is we shouldn't be gatekeeping potential fans in this way. It makes the Kingdom Hearts community feel unwelcoming and judgmental of people who wanted to test the waters with KH3 and see what it was about. And another thing, the story was only one facet of the game. You don't need a single piece of prior knowledge to have very valid opinions about things like the flow of gameplay, level design, or graphical/musical quality (just to name a few).

yeah but it also wouldn't add much so i understand why they didn't want him to review it. he at most could just say he enjoyed playing it and might want to play the other games. he can't really add anything because its not a completely stand alone game. problems begins- majority of kh games are just bad. the music are redition of past games. (can't really review story). it looks nice is kinda meh ( not much to say on that). for newcomers you can only recommend the combat which i did to someone i know and they enjoyed it. i can't do that for people who want closure that isn't just an end of the saga. (referring to interaction and story).

My biggest problem with KH3 in this regard is that it doesn't really have a satisfying story on its own. Every KH game, despite the zany plotpoints, managed to introduce or flesh out characters in a satisfying self contained narrative that made some sense. KH2 had that with the Nobodies, BBS with its main trio and even DDD with Rikus journey of self acceptance. KH3 has many cutscenes with characters talking to each other, but little is explored or fleshed out. Only Sora feels like a character, and even then he doesn't have much personal relationships with the main antagonist and I feel his whole journey of self sacrifice is told very clumsily. I can't fault newcomers when the game fails to deliver a satisfying self contained narrative.

Can we also talk about how sometimes the game just suddenly has FANTASTIC writing just interspersed in things here and there? Like the stars in the final world were all overwhelming in how everything went together... I can't really explain it completely since a lot of it only works when you're there. but it still smacked me in the face and suddenly I was confused because we reversed time somehow. It was some kind of whiplash.

That's fantastic to you? The entire story is poorly translated to appeal to younger audiences and simplify it like by using the word darkness instead of anger, hate, etc. Friendship is in-place of bonds too as all keyblade wielders get's power from bonds and by helping the worlds they travel too, they are awarded by the world's heart with a new keychain which has the worlds power infused whiten transforming the keybalde. There are A LOT of foreshadowing but very not obvious and kh3 presents xehenort as Lucifer as the fallen angel with a lot of references being a goat is most obvious one. (sora has angel wings but only 1 and needs support of other to fly like kairi) Ayaya read more if you wanna but it's random facts. The first kingdom hearts at end of 1 is the heart of the muti-verse, the one in 3 is the creator of the world, people and other hearts, the one in 2 is a fake one as it's just a big heart made via heartless. Nobody's are hinted in 1 and directly stated even more with the remix, keybladewar was mentioned in KH 1. Marluxia's sister is present in COM in gba too but more obvious in playstaion version etc. Time-travel is hinted at in 1 with sora falling in the opening of kh1, nomura changes things a lot because there are many problems with game making and hardware issues but never changes the stuff foreshadowed, hell the secret ending he said was just made for "fun" in kh1 clearly say's nobodies are a thing and is remade in 358/2days FFS.

I feel like the reason Kingdom Hearts 2 feels so thematically cohesive is because 1. its so much earlier in the series and 2. actually has action game cutscenes. Sora does some cool as shit near the end of the game and was only expanded upon in the Final Mix version where they let you play out some of them too (Roxas fight.) The end of Kingdom Hearts 3 was cool to play but reflecting on it there isnt much action happening in cutscenes which, for kingdom hearts, is kinda underwhelming.

I would argue that KH3's Disney worlds do help build some of the more background theming of the game, you can watch that one foreshadowing and callback pair of videos for more context, but there definitely is more discrepancy between the more original worlds like Toy Box and Monsters Inc and stuff like Arendelle and Corona which are more traditional retellings. Arendelle definitely suffers the most storywise as a result, any KH fan would tell you that. At least Corona has the inherent fun of helping a someone experience their own world for the first time and Pirates just kinda lets you go on your own little adventure mid-way through. KH is a series that wears it heart on its sleeve, so to speak, with some level of corporate appeasement for some of its properties, so the way it writes and develops plot can leave some scratching their heads or turning up their noses, but I'd argue it does have genuinely good writing. its not a 'turn your brain off' affair, there is a fun, engaging, and even clever story here, it might not be perfect, its no Jane Austin, but it's not trying to be.

@@zeosummers3984 I resent the idea that using terms relevent to the story constitutes bad writing and serves a little more than a cheap shot at the series. I will say KH can be a bit longwinded for its own good, but just going 'darkness light lol' is barely a criticism. Also things like The Guardian are good foreshadowing because while you can guess parts of it(and people did), its never so obvious that its the only answer, and it doesn't take away from its impact when it does come up. It shows you its hand, but not how it will be played. Also Not sure what you mean about Luxu stuff though, i think your message got a bit jumbled after that part.

I agree that it doesn't need to be this incredibly deep and phenomenal narrative/story, and that it's an action game and it shouldn't have to be incredible story telling, but I feel like that's an excuse to let the story go unhinged, which I'm very against in principle.

I completely agree, I think the story should have focused on character building as by KH3 it really seems as if Nomura doesn't know what to do with anyone, by the end everyone is useless except Sora despite losing almost all his powers at the start, Aqua cannot hold her own, Riku who seemed the most developed is with nothing but the weird dialogue with Replica Riku. You wait until the end for the main story beats and they seem so poorly thought out.

@@diondwamena6667 Precisely! I have been waiting ever since KH2 ended for Sora, Riku, and Kairi to be an actual trio that goes on adventures together in the same way Aqua/Terra/Ventus and Roxas/Axel/Xion did. Riku is such an interesting character both gameplay and story wise, and there's so much potential with Kairi, that it could've been really cool. Instead we got, as you said, everyone being useless compared to Sora and not doing all that much when compared to Sora. I really don't want to watch the Sora show all the time, especially when Nomura has so many other characters who can be so interesting and can do so much with.

To me kingdom hearts is like a daytime drama , a novella or something, from the outside its easy to dismiss it but for fans you get invested in the characters emotion so much that some of its big moments legit bring tears to my eyes, I know the score does a huge chunk of the work because I hear that piano from the start menu and I get tearyy eyed. its powerful because its focus is entirely there, ont he emotion of the thing. For me the game coulda ended when aqua and ventus and terra all got back together. I loved that portion of 3 so much and while yes I wish kairi wasnt done dirty saving aqua and ventus was such a high point for me it still got me crying. a game I was ultimately disappointed in still made me finish it. The same way that two made me cry when sora starts crying when he has to leave Roxas' friends. it really uses the power of trios to its advantage and thats what keeps people hooked. all that hackney writting that plots out the situations they end up in is entirely ok to me, because as long as it draws out that level of emotional pay off ima be into it. helps that its ina series that constantly moves forward mechanically. 2 might just be the best action rpg Ive ever played, I beat it over and over and over again and each time I cried at the same parts.

I unironically LOVE the series (yes, even the spinoffs and weirdo entries) because of the story. I know fully that the game won't meet my ultimate expectations when it does resolve, but as one of those "theory crafters" who will "die on their hill of defending the franchise", the unanswered questions and open ends are what I love the most! I love digging in the lore, rewatching every single cutscene for the 1-line clues that reveal the whole mess, etc. because having those "aHA!" moments is just so gratifying in a series with such convolution. The games eventually explain what's going on in unambiguous terms, always, but they just have more to reveal, you know? The inclusion of the mobile game sucks, but I just know they'll re-release it for a console later on, take out the "gatcha" elements and just make it a normal game eventually so that it's accessible for everybody.

It's such a sweet and fun gaming franchise but the story and various systems you have to play them on are definitely reasons to put someone off the series. It's like a commitment, and you just have to have faith that you'll like it or you'll get it later on. And I get how that's just not viable for lots of people. So yeah, KH is such a unique franchise. I didn't even finish KH1 or KHCM by the time I picked up 2 but my god... I fell in love. Filling in the plot holes with online friends watching YT fan videos and theorizing on Gaia Online. Going crazy on tumblr for Utada Hikaru. *KINGDOM HEART CRACK & KINGDOM HEART CRAZY FILES* Discovering some of my life long favorite bands through Kingdom Hearts AMV's (ADTR- Have Faith In Me _If you know, you know_ ). The ongoing debates on who was more useless: Donald or Goofy while someone in the back *scrEaMS* "KAIRI!!!" like they'd bet their life on it. I love this series. I love that Sora is _'floaty'_ . I love the colors and sense of overwhelming positivity that can't fade even in the most serious of moments in the series. You knew you would save your friends, because *THAT'S* what kind of game this IS! It doesn't need the hanging questions or the sense of real dread. This isn't The Last Of Us and it shouldn't be. It's a game about a kid fighting and playing with Disney Characters and Final Fantasy heartthrobs. You literally play Honey balloon popping games with Whinnie the Pooh and then fight with a reality shattering clone of an old (at the time) random Keyblade Master. This series is just *_home_* for a lot of people, and I love this home. I'm sincerely glad I never gave up on the series because it never stop showing me what fun meant, even 15 years later.

to truly understand everything takes a lot of commitment and dedication honestly. Going through each game initially and having your first perspective of what's happening only to read all of the secret files and have a greater understanding of background elements or further insight on things you may have been uninformed in as a player. Though something happens when you go back to retread what you alright thought you had an complete experience of and realize there are hints of future events that span years across releases in games. Things you'd dismiss and probably never think of assuming it was a throw away line and realizing much later that maybe these characters had a greater understanding of the situation than you expected and that moment changes your view on potentially the entire game. The cost up until the ps4 collection however was having to endure with only fractions of information until you could play and possibly rebeat games you hadn't touched yet to add to the structure of understanding you've created. Learning the depth of all these characters, understanding the importance of plot points or specific games in the series and in the end looking for purpose or meaning in their outcomes is what I think people really want. People want to learn secrets behind under represented characters hoping they're more than they seem, they wanna see growth and motivation, to know that this web of a plot line was subtly linking each hint across the many games. It's a fuckin mess and you need to be a shizo to put in the time and resources to truly understand every little detail even fully aware many things are pointless just for that tiny piece of meaningful input that answers even your smallest question or concern. Either way, I like it, i've had a good time

@@roopereimi1718 the greater "oomph" comes from the devastation the primary antagonist endures and how he manipulated his way across the games while destroying the lives or even functionality of individuals in the pursuit to get what he wants. It's easy to see the game through what only sora can see but really it's the villains you need to pay attention to to get a greater enjoyment out of the series. The lives destroyed, the pain endured by so many attached to the main character even on the enemy side because even in kh2 the majority of them were manipulated. We can relate to the basic things like the sorrow of loss but we can't rationalize the means taken to end. It's why people were so emotional with the reunions and relief of the characters who had so much taken away from them. I feel like nobody pays attention to the true scope of the main villains destruction and the unnamed people who were sacrificed in the name of scientific discovery.

@@roopereimi1718 This is why i go back to you need to be commited and dedicated to really understand the motivations like what would push terranort to kill and psychologically torture people which you need information from in dark road and bbs. what's the true driving factor behind vanitas' intentions which you need background knowledge in the books. Xemnas, ansem and YX are all different characters with different motivations and different struggles. They came from one person but all had their own personalities. Death in kh is typically not too severe because of the many rules to set up ways to come back but there are circumstances where when a piece of you detaches and becomes something all their own only for them to be forced back into an original person shows true annihilation. SoD and master xehanort had different goals but both of their deaths meant different things for the people who were involved and them themselves. The main story of kh is very easy to follow and understand, it's up to the person experiencing it to choose whether they wanna dive in and try to understands characters they may like. Ya like marluxia? Ok here's all this info on how he changed over the years, his relationships, why other characters treat him a specific way, why sora had specific reactions to things he experiences because of him and maybe even his nature in wanting to betray the organization. You didn't really need to know any of that and none of it changed the outcome of what happened to him but because you were interested you were rewarded with something deep and rich. Of course not all characters are treated the same and there's still a lot of speculation of two others in specific. MGS is similarly convoluted with games being locked to things people probably dont own anymore but people defend that and it's dumb time paradoxes or even the time travel in survive. I kinda compare it to dark souls which barely has a story but people will read literally any item to link any two names or locations to get a better understanding to the geography when it does nothing to impact the story. If people can put in the time to read a rock description then iunno, maybe you can read the 13 secret reports that literally explain everything you could ever wonder in each game.

as not only a longtime fan since 2002, but also as a fan who literally has bought every game on their original consoles and devices and has built up a tolerance to A LOT of this series' writing choices, I definitely agree with a lot of what you said. it's just an action game where your anime-sona bops around Disney worlds, and the plot mostly exists to give your characters a reason to bop around Disney worlds. it doesn't need to be an epic masterpiece in storytelling, it just needs to be a good game series. personally, i think the fact that KH is so preoccupied with even telling an interconnected story, even across different consoles, is what makes it unique from other game franchises. they really didn't have to put all of that effort into it, most game franchises don't even bother with trying to have an internal cannon because video games usually aren't trying to tell compelling stories. i think it's cool that they at least try to say something with these games.

kh's story is very typical shonen. I'd say it can be finished with kh2 since most plot lines are wrapped up there, and the main characters goal which was to find his friends and get back to the island had been achieved, Riku's fight against the darkness and accepting who he was was also achieved. There was no want or need to become a "master" because to us; Riku and Sora were masters in their own right given how they handled the oh so powerful Xemnas. "but what about maleficent and pete?" what about them? the story doesn't even know what to do with them post this game all the way after kh3 and they are practically team rocket. characters actually stay dead and there's no awful "time travel" being tact on an already convoluted story. Nomura simply saw inception and went "we can make a kh game off of this." As much as I enjoyed how broken the characters of birth by sleep were, the follow up to them in kh3 felt lackluster and rushed. did their story needed to be told? Perhaps. But it was just revenge of the sith but with keyblades. I don't like the concept of the "ice cream trio", but Roxas is my favorite character and him returning with more confidence in his voice as if he finally grew up was probably my favorite part in kh3. I'd accept him as a spirit who enjoys his time with Namine though as well. why don't I like the ice cream trio? because axel became more annoying later down the line and I despise Xion because 1. She's a Mary sue and 2. we've had enough sora clones. 3. Xion exists only to make poor Roxas's life more miserable than it already is. but w/e, it is what it is, I've grown to accept it and moved on. this series is almost 20 years old, no use in harping over it lol.

What meaning it has is completely stolen from another genre and medium all together that is predominently sold to the same demographic. What does this mean? It means it is copy and pasted because it works. It is not unique, it is a dime a dozen. You can get the exact same "meaning" from better written stories elsewhere. Enjoyed this video a lot, good job! The story of the KH series, as of this moment, is a story of artistic vision, passion and love ruined by cynical business practices. Kingdom Hearts’ magic ultimately comes from its sincerity. It’s a totally absurd premise which takes itself, its drama and its characters seriously, and that’s why players have become so immersed and emotionally invested in the series over the past 17 years. KH3 is a demarcation point for the series. I like to call it Nomura’s Mark of Mastery Exam, because it was his chance to show players what KH actually means to him. Prior to this, we’d only recently had the handheld titles, which-while fun-were held back in scope by technological limitations. Birth by Sleep had a strong story, but how much stronger might it have been if it had been a PS2 game as originally intended? DDD was mainly just a celebration of the series 10th anniversary, so story was really a secondary priority for that game. In both of these games, players were able to overlook certain story flaws and shortcomings because they were just “side games,” even if they connected directly to the main series’ plot. Now, to quote DDD: “This leads to KH3.” Underlying all the handheld games post-KH2 was the knowledge that there would be a KH3 someday, a game which would properly continue Sora’s journey as a character and return to the magical, big adventure which has always been the series’ namesake. KH3 is one of the main reasons fans supported all the handhelds, buying entire consoles to show SquareEnix there was demand for the series, to encourage the company to actually make the game fans truly wanted. Square-Enix was very aware of fans’ dedication to the Kingdom Hearts story, and realized they could turn KH3’s release into a big event. They even added a new secret ending teaser for KH3’s story in the rereleased KH2.8. It undeniable that Square was marketing KH3 around its story. Surely they would put most of their effort towards delivering a grand story finale for the Dark Seeker Saga.... But when the time finally came, one of the most anticipated moments in gaming history, Square-Enix decided to treat KH3 as a total afterthought so they could focus their efforts on FFVIIR, going so far as to make Nomura the director of FFVIIR. Additionally, they imposed a ridiculous engine switch on KH3’s console-inexperienced dev team, and we know from Nomura’s interviews that they delayed approving his resource requests for KH3. So after all this time, after all this financial support from fans (KH has not been an inexpensive series to follow), after waiting 13 years for Square-Enix to acknowledge the series is worth investing big money in...this is how the company says thank you. After knowing how important this game, story and characters are to KH fans-and exploiting them for extra cash (to give to FF7R lol)-they deliver a game that doesn’t even have one single full-size original story world. To be fair to Nomura, writing is challenging to begin with. Writing a complete script with multiple interconnected story threads in between grueling days at the office directing FFVIIR (with the added stress of knowing that the company’s future all but hinged on the success of that game) would be overwhelming for any artist. But as writer and director, he has to take responsibility for the work he delivered. After 13 years of teasing KH3, this was his chance to finally make it, to give fans a true payoff for their investment-financially and emotionally. I do not believe he did. It is heartbreaking, because prior to KH3 I regarded Kingdom Hearts’ story very highly. It reminds me of both Classic Disney and Classic FF. But if the creator and company do not care about giving this series, story and characters the treatment and respect they deserve, why should the fans?

I think that this video focuses FAR too much on limited perception. I don't know what KBash's social circle looks like, but it seems almost universally consistent of people who play Kingdom Hearts "despite" it's story or those who think it's, at best, "fun". I think that is an unfair, but more so, INACCURATE take on these games' fans. Many Kingdom Hearts fans are genuinely moved by these games, and while the writing is not excellent, it can be effective at eliciting an emotional response from the viewer. This video seems to categorize those fans into the extremist "theorists" group, but that's simply untrue. There can certainly be some overlap, don't get me wrong. But a lot of people who play this series aren't constantly rolling their eyes or dismissing the plot as "fun/serviceable", just as they aren't super-theorists for genuinely liking these games' plot. This video gives off the impression of the latter, so I think it's really inaccurate in terms of addressing fan response. Whoever KBash was looking towards, it seems that they're more willing to wallow in the negative than is normal for the wider audience.

This has some accuracy. Me personally I understand those people who genuinely love it, and am very weirded out by them. Cause with the early games, the games up till Days... It's just *bliss*. The first Kingdom Hearts is kind of flawless story-telling wise to me. And the first times with the other games except for DDD, I did *feel* a lot at least. I kinda loved a fair amount of it, it's more with time and separation that I start to pick them apart more, aside from very obvious problems *like* Frozen, or *like* Kairi not getting to at least put up a fight before being bamfed. Like Birth By Sleep, from pretty much all sides, used to be loved a lot more by me and other fans, it was more over time that the conversation changed and picked out the problems more. I don't think KBash though, btw, was entirely trying to paint the overall fanbase as just "having fun" with the games. It's more like you have to roll with them, critical of them or not, loving it or not. I don't think either that he meant every big fan of the games was a theorist. Though I dislike the disses toward the speedrunners. Those guys get so much shade and are so misunderstood by the community, it's gross, so I'm not a fan of KBash kinda writing them off too. Another thing, is I get the impression that he thinks a lot of more critical fans are kinda trying to be a bit pompous about the series? Maybe just a bit. Even though, for the most part, he's making a lot of the same criticisms our types make. I might be wrong though, cause one of the categories, the last he named, was more about "appreciating what's there, but recognizing some flaws", and he said he slotted in mostly there.

Agreed people definitely focus on the Negative aspects and the the Bad Stuff and Intentionally or Unintentionally Neglect the Gold mine of Good narrative writing and Symbolism and the emotional stuff to and people I see are mostly willing to Put up with other so called convoluted or overly complicated Games but Kingdom Hearts for them is crossing the line for some baffling reason

Well generally the wider audience will receive it a little better as they have stuck with the series thus long but generally I think the writing quality of KH3 especially the end falls off and they use character moments to evoke an emotional response and whilst the seas salt trio(despite problems with the build up to the scene). Yet the scene where Sora talks to Vanitas just shows poor nuance and frankly poor writing. Vanitas a being literally born from the darkness is asked by Sora why darkness? What does that mean, I know Sora is stupid when it comes to most things but he cannot even understand his perspective and constantly berates Xemnas until his death yet he completely forgives and buys into Xehanort's reasons for what he has done and Eraqus forgives him. Even the latter on it's own is barely acceptable. The characters themselves have not had enough meaningful conversation and dialgue apart from "forging the x-blade to develop any relation apart from plot. KH has put all it's chips on plot despite it having little character development outside of Riku and a few others who Nomura decided to pick on. Despite becoming a master Riku has never looked weaker in any game. He cannot beat a demon tower, Aqua completely trounces him. He is only in the story for exposition. The use of characters demonstrated that Nomura had little clue what to do with most of them.

Great essay! For me the game that handled the Disney realms the best was the first one simply because they treated the incursion of parasitic forces from another dimension as a catastrophe. Like where the plots of Aladdin and the Little Mermaid were actually derailed, in Mermaid's case before the actual movie plot could even begin. But the second and third games chicken out of causing serious ripples. Like Ursula being the antagonist of Atlantica in KH2 despite being very dead at the end of the last game.

@Anton Magnusson the movie one is highly incorrect, thats litterally only Re:codeds movie bit, which yeah is dumb, but Days movies gives so much substance when it comes to movie but also fails as it strips so much context from the actual game and that's what tutorials are used for when learning new combat systems, Not every Tales of Game uses the same combat system not every Final Fantasy uses the same combat system, why should KH be forced to stick with a single gameplay system. just pointint out this happens elsewhere It kinda shows how much you actually know when looking into it if you think both cutscene collections are rehashes one is, the other isn't as it only really has the clocktower scenes for the most part with few exceptions

The way that I view the story of kh is that it doesn't need to make any logical sense. It's about emotional logic, or emotional pay off, and it fits a series all about hearts where hearts are in everything, can connect other across space, cause time travel, enter dreams, and literally anything else. I guess I'm being lazy by just ignoring many of the small details that don't get properly explained, but i never really cared about the fine details of xehanorts plots. Instead it was how his plots affected the characters that I cared about. Still nice points, its always interesting hearing different takes on kh's story.

A few weeks before KH3 came out, I decided not to get it and just watch the cutscenes because I felt like nomura didn't know what he was doing from what I saw in the last few trailers. Rules set up were being broken, statements made by the man were just not true, and playing or getting involved with the chi series didn't matter in terms of KH3 for the most part. I was upset after seeing the last bits of the game and was annoyed that all Re:mind did was be an advertisement for the next saga rather than tie lose ends for 3. Like you said, nomura just keeps going regardless and fans just need to let it go. But I felt like 8 years of my life at to that point was wasted on the series. Yeah, I did want to hear your opinion on the story, but I was so happy that you were having fun ith it Kbash. This video did bring me back to reality though. As a fan of Kingdom Hearts since late 2010, I've been worried about the series since 2013 when the chi series started. Thank you for basically saying "but why though?" Lol The game play is still great, Characters are still cool, and Disney as well as FF now has just been a cash grab. At the end of the day, kingdom hearts is a journey about a boy with a keyblade and his weird duck and dog getting into crazy Disney X Final Fantasy shenanigans while making friends along the way. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

It's bad when it's cynically made. kH3 wasn't ultimately much more than an advertisement for the next thing. The fact that it took them a decade to make KH3 means they never had a vision for it. They put in the token elements of the franchise without caring what or why kh1 and kh2 were great.
