Thanks for this great interview with Joe Edelmen. His portraits are incredible and make the case for micro 4/3 in a great way. I think we do get too involved in the gear and we need to remember that the camera and lens are just tools to make photos. So get out there and shoot!

I liked the interview! Joe is a great guy. I really love his work, but I like his philosophy as a photographer the most. Getting the right picture is indeed 80% human factor.

Joe is fantastic and an inspiration. There's way too much "gear lust" going around lately. And the "art" has become almost secondary.

Great interview. I watch Joe's videos often. He is a wonderful educator with great on-camera presence and a wealth of knowledge and ideas. Looking forward to seeing him as an occasional guest on your channel.

Joe Edelmen probably remembers back in the day when UPI (United Press International ,one of the legendary world-wide wire services for you young-un's out there) equipped its staff with Olympus film equipment. Those cameras were innovative, compact and pro-built. Good lens lineup, too. Sadly, they didn't make much inroads among Nikon and Canon (which didn;'t even have EOS yet).

Inspiring and motivational for me, especially Joe's suggestion of the 90minutes learning to 180 miuntes practice rato.

Thanks for not making another gear review video. KZbin has been saturated with them since Photokina.

The business of photography is probably the biggest hole not really addressed. The point of art having value on the kitchen table, images having value in the roof over your head, still moments in time giving you access to the necessities of life... that's where it all comes together.

This interview was about Joe and Olympus, not necessarily business. We've got tons of business content on thisweekinphoto.com including the business of wedding photography, copyright, events, real estate, architecture, and more.

The 45mm f/1.2 pro is amazing. What’s in focus is pin sharp, and what’s out of focus is beautifully creamy. The 12-100mm f/4 pro is very versatile for hikes and the like, not only for its wide range of focal lengths, but also because of its stabilization which combines with that of the body (I managed a 2-second hand-held exposure with it, without anything to rest my elbows on, just standing on my two feet). When you want to carry only one lens (to travel light, or because it’s going to be too dusty or rainy to safely change lenses, or whatever), that one will get you covered for various situations.

Yes. I asked him once on one of his live shows and he showed it and said it was there. Not a temporary deal. He got one, so he kind of went all in on Olympus. He made a joke that Olympus wanted him to be a brand photographer and he heard that as a branded photographer :-)
