Fun story: my GI doc is handsome, like George Clooney handsome and he’s seen too much…. Well after my wireless camera endo I said “man I feel so bad for the poor smuck that had to watch 8 hours of my digestive system!” He raised his hand and said “hey I’m the poor smuck” 😂😂😂

Hahaha! Nice! I come out of anesthesia incredibly quickly and alert. 1st time I had a colonoscopy, I told them that. Anyway, someone who was involved in it was incredibly handsome, I didn't know his name or role, though. After they turned off the anesthesia, not only did I feel the camera come out, I heard 2 people say, "ok, let's get (insert name) and tell him we're done." Me, still with my eyes closed, very loudly and clearly said, "is he the hot one?! Is he single?!" Their response: loud laughter and someone saying, "wow, she really DOES wake up fast." To this day, that's one of my favorite stories. 😆

@@erinbailey4631 the most recent time I was put under (for another colonoscopy), I woke up aware of my surroundings and from what I could tell, perfectly fine. I was talking to the nurse, then maybe 4 minutes later, I gained more clarity and realized I'd been slurring like I was drunk. I asked her if I'd been doing that the whole time, she confirmed that indeed, I had been, but that it's really common. 😆

My proctologist is super handsome too. It was awkward in the first consults. One consult where I was telling him about all the health problems I had since the last one, a UTI, orto problems, allergies, and so on. He sent me to the cot to be examined and then noticed bandages in my foot and asked about it. "Oh, I forgot, I lost a toenail yesterday." He told me to go get blessed, take a salt bath, do something to cut off the bad luck. 😂

My grandmother died of colon cancer so I have had FIVE colonoscopies... The prep is DEFINITELY the hardest part. Colonoscopy is EARLY detection. As a radiation oncologist I applaud this presentation. 3/21/2022 14:36 Eastern GJBrownDO

I'm a non med person needing a colonoscopy for diagnostic reasons next month. I have to say I'm nervous for the prep 😬 lol I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry for so many preps!
@garrybrown3165
@garrybrown3165 Жыл бұрын
@@ItsJennNotJenny The prep can be done several ways. The first time I was given a product called "GoLightly". It was pineapple flavored and involved drinking what seemed like a gallon of liquid with additional water the evening before the colonoscopy. (It took several months before I could enjoy pineapple again!) Basically the product is a laxative that clears the bowels so that the physician has a clear view. Alternative bowel preps can be laxative tablets and liquid magnesium citrate. Your physician may have his own preference. Sedation is given before the endoscope is placed so the procedure is pretty painless. The hardest part is not knowing what to expect.
@ItsJennNotJenny

@@garrybrown3165 Thanks for sharing. I'm not nervous about sedation and the actual procedure to be honest. Lol I'm nervous about prep because of what several people have told me. I'm doing the mirilax and 64oz Gatorade with some otc pills for my prep so hopefully it won't be too bad.

@@ItsJennNotJenny had to get a colonoscopy and I have IBS-D so they added even MORE laxatives on top of the Plenvu…so I get it lol. What saved me was deep cleaning my bathroom beforehand, setting up a little fan and a book, and having some sugar free dye free Pedialyte on hand to swig in between the awful tasting doses. Since you have gatorade, I’m sure the taste won’t be a problem. They also sell these pedialyte popsicles (like otter pops) which were a nice cool treat. Good luck!

Well I had a GI doctor who did not have a sense of humor, nor much of a personality! The office environment was cold and impersonal. The day I had the endoscopy and colonoscopy, the doctor sat at a computer, talked on a cellphone and didn't say a word during my prep for the procedures. As they were putting me to sleep, the doctor gowned up for the procedures. Still nothing. On the other hand when I had my last cataract surgery, the doctor came in and asked questions, marked my correct eye and assured me I had nothing to worry about. He also talked to me after the procedure and colorfully gave me post-op instructions (or maybe that was just the anesthesia). It was so refreshing to see your guest with such of an amazing sense of humor! Never thought I would be discussing these two specialties at the same time but that's on you! 😉 Thanks for sharing another great video!

I would probably be dead if I lived in the US as there's no way my parents could have afforded all the costs connected to my genetic diseases and issues. That said, I wish there was a platform for New Zealanders with chronic and rare genetic problems to cast light on the pitfalls of our system. I dream of one day being able to see a nephrologist :(

Hospitals should be required to publically post what contracted doctor groups are practicing there - this has become such a huge problem - my own local hospital does have contracted doc groups but you aren't allowed to know which ones are gong to treat you. Has to be a way to fight back about this. I would join an advocacy group if you are forming one.

Have to resume this great episode tomorrow but here's my colonoscopy story. The 1 gallon prep drink: Friday - I choked down 1.5 cups. I got so sick I thought I had the worst flu in my life! Monday - Day of procedure: Nurse, "did you drink all your prep?" "No. 1.5 cups." Nurse: 😱 "Don't worry, there is nothing left in me - AT ALL" She consults w/Dr. Handsome 😍 We go for it. I chose to be awake. I'm fascinated watching the whole thing, asking questions, cracking jokes, very positive, fun interaction with everyone. Polyp was benign, experience was great - except the Prep!

Off topic. Could you and Lady G interview a Pulmonologist? I googled 'lung doctor' to find the correct term😃 My husband had lung cancer 3yrs ago and had one half of a lung removed. He's cancer free, but still not "up to snuff". That's a rural medical term.

If an insurance doctor denies a claim, and the patient has a negative outcome, we should be holding those Doctors responsible. A medical malpractice lawsuit, even up criminal charges.

Dude I have some UHC and Superior healthcare horror stories. I work as an ATP providing complex mobility equipment for mostly pediatrics. And the denials I have to waste hours working on appeals for are utterly ridiculous. Its sickening. Meanwhile little Anna goes 9+ months without any of her equipment while UHC or Superior dicks around with new randomly created and literally false statements/reasons for denials. Ok now to finish the podcast lol.
