Thanks Mark. I was really struggling with this technique (trying to play ABBA's Gimme Gimme Gimme) and this lesson helped me nail it. The finger pattern of playing the index first on the octave made all the difference.

Came here for ELO's “Last Train to London,” from _Discovery_ (1979). I was trying to figure out how I was supposed to pluck the strings, and I was generally at a loss…until now! Thanks 😃

My bass teacher uses the thumb to play the lower note and the 1 and 2 to play the top two notes. So each finger gets a note. What do you think of this technique ?

Wayyyllp here I am starting my double with my middle finger and thumb-muting across the strings every time. This is encouraging because I was getting decent at it with bad technique

I am new at this bass finger picking. In this disco piece, you say pick the upper note with index then middle. As hard as I try, my old muscles keep trying to play middle then Index. How long before I can reverse this habit? It actually is physically uncomfortable to force this change.

@duckmanlequack
@duckmanlequack 4 жыл бұрын
@@MonoEstitico Disco tends to be four-to-the-floor with hi-hats on every other eighth note, with lots of octave bass. It's constantly moving, its pretty much the staple of disco-dance. Funk rhythm feels more like half step and the bass tends to be more melodic and syncopated. Of course, the genres overlap and a disco artist is usually also a funk artist and vice versa

I find this technique difficult to master. I use my thumb to pluck the E string instead as a kind of "hack" so I don't have to move the index and middle fingers around as much. I'm sure I should probably be practicing the more difficult way that you show here to bring it up to speed though

It would be interesting to look at a slow motion close up shot to see if you're slightly raking the D string when moving your index finger from the G string to the A string.
