Martin said they agreed on how it ends but getting to that point would differ from the books to the TV Show. George R.R. Martin always said he likes throwing of the readers with surprises if he thinks the readers know what's going to happen.

I think they just didn't know how to write it in the hugely significant way all the build up was leading to - so they throw in 'Surprise! Arya!". One of the things I like about George is he knows the TV business. He understands that there are limitations to TV that he doesn't have to deal with as a novelist. He hasn't been silent about his thoughts on how it ended and wanted it to continue for another 2 seasons, but 10 years is a long time to be working on a project and people wanted to move on to other roles and jobs. Kit Harington almost broke down from the pressure of being Jon Snow and had to check into rehab when the show was done. Then you get the bosses at HBO constantly complaining about the cost and demanding cuts to what should have been a absolute blockbuster climax. Honestly, I'd watch a documentary about how the show fell apart at the end.

I also have a sneaky suspicion that the delay in finishing & releasing The Winds of Winter has something to do with the rewrites. Specifically, I think it may have had something to do with undermining the heinous D&D plot twist. Perhaps it was a 7 figure agreement to give HBO an amount of time to exploit GOT before undermine and relegating the show to legend status, or perhaps George is finding a it difficult to repair the damage they did ( or both).

For me the final showdown should be between night king vs Daenerys and Jon snow. In book (for now) only Daenerys is promised prince, in show i thinking they wanted to show that they both was part of „prince”. My ending should be that the night walkers would go all the way to kings landing (defeating winterfell in first battle) and them after Dany and Jon drafted night king they become Queen and king consort. The dragons should reproduce and Targaryen dinastry should be rebuilt.

What if John Snow goes to the final fight against the Night King and after a crudling fight, and in the final blow they both hit each other, the Night king die but not after transforming John into the new Night King. So Danerys would have to fight a dragon fight of Ice and fire. And in the end Arya with tears in her eyes would have to kill john with the dagger that started all. All the white walkers had "Blue eyes", not only the Night King. So Arya's foreshadowing just ment that she would be at the final battle. They could have made her kill many of the Night King's officers if they wanted her to be a big hero, not give her the ultimate victory that she had no other connection to. I appreciate the "shock value" in stories but I always love more the clues that you realise afterwards that where leading you to it anyway.

They could track back in HoTD, and make a character realise that the so called Night King, is infact just a leader of the group sent out to break the wall, and thin the herd, before the true invasion. The Night King isn't a book character, so it wouldn't be too hard to demote him in the show. Whomever the real Winter King is, can surely warg/see through Night Kings' eyes. This would probably mean that Bran either knew the whole time, or was just another pawn. This might be too much of a twist for some people, but I'd love to see it happen in a Jon Snow sequel. I still just hate who they f'd it up so bad. As bad as the Cersei, Dany, Varys, Tyrion & Jamie endings were, this really pissed me off😂

How I see it with the shoe and book is They’re trying to replicate a chess game and throughout the seasons maybe they’ll move one piece a little differently and by the time they started to run out of material the board they had didn’t line up with the board that was written. This will lead to the producers having to fabricate a way to a specific ending using moves that aren’t possible without any training wheels (the book) to help them making some moves not make sense any more. But the huge battle with the White Walkers long episode and the last episode are a big big disappointment. I understand the unexpected was something that happens in the show, but from Episode 3 to Episode 6 and last, the writes ruined everything! Jon Snow knew that killing the Night King would kill all the walkers and yet they slowed Jon Snow down (insulting us, the viewers knowledge) and since that point they just f***ed things up. Yes, Arya shouldn’t have been the one killing the Night King and on the last episode, I could understand Daenerys going ballistic and destroying everything and even getting killed by Snow, but degrading him the way they did, it was WRONG. Unless if Jon Snow would’ve been the one renouncing to be the King of The Seven, that would’ve been understandable, knowing he was never an ambitious man. Game of Thrones is one of the best series, yes it is. But it has the worst season finale. Shame on those guys for ruining the show that way. Shame!, Shame!, Shame!

Hard Homme was so cool. The story really ended when Jon Snow died. The show slowly deteriorated after that. Unraveling thread by thread. Anyone asking my opinion, GOT is great (needed finer tuning in later seasons). The books are excellent. HOTD is worth your time.

There are a few things that I dont like with hotd. Definitly better than the last 2 seasons of got but its dragging alot. How was the "peasent" armies so large, judging by the field littered with corpses? Must have been way bigger armies than even the royal army that we see later in the season. Characters feel more slotted in and one dimensional compared to got. Where is the fun, even joffrey and cercei had their moments of joy in got. Also the line delivery, acting and some locations dont feel natural. Almost feels like a theatric piece with how controlled and plot focused the dialogue is. Also I think it suffers, similar to the last got season, from weird time and distance management. Characters know things very quickly despite being so far away. The whole ceremony of the childs death was supposed to have taken place the same day? Irl that would have taken more planning and the mother grieving for much longer. At the same time they waited the entire night and then some to clean the room? Just feels weird to me. Tbh it feels like the writing is still lacking but overall its still enjoyable, especially seeing the dragons.

I am rewatching GoT in its entirety. You can already see how D&D were messing things up since season 2, which of course, was outweighted for the great acting, music, and overall plot. But every time they made changes, 90% were for the worse. Season 8 was unfortunately the conclusion of all their folly, hubris and lazyness.

Which also doesn’t make any sense because early got is some of the best examples of good female characters. Besides Jon, littlefinger would be the best example of this.

Let's not forget The Night King was a coward thus too is a reason why he didn't want to fight Jon Snow. That being said D&D rly did screw the pooch on season 8 on a variety of different levels.
