Amazing conversation, the 1hr40 just flew by. Had seen every episode of medinner, and laughed at most of them, ignorant to the back stories and the people affected.

Mate, I have no words. If only parents knew how much these things stay with us for the rest of our lives. We learn to create strategies to keep those memories buried. So great to see you that you are doing well Ricky. Nothing but mad respect to you 👏

Hi Ricky and hoping you’re well. This was an amazing podcast and once I got started last night I couldn’t stop listening, it took me well into the early hours (a bit like tonight). There was so much which I can relate to with regard human behaviours and attitudes, yourself and Bob Mills summed it all up better than I ever could. I found myself engrossed because this podcast was so relatable. You’re a very clued up guy and can phrase things so well - the channel definitely deserves more subscribers and views. With the clip, indeed like many I became aware of it on IBWMD when I was a teenager but I didn’t know where it was from until a long time afterwards. Summer on the Estate is a horrific record, those flats really weren’t suitable for habitation and it’s telling that they’re not there anymore. I do get the impression that Ian was made of sturdy stuff as he doesn’t cower down to Tom and tells him that he doesn’t want to hit him despite taking abuse and punches, but I only know Ian from watching the documentary, so I don’t want to tread too far with that one as you’d know much more than me. Tom comes across as a monster, the way he treated your mother was disgusting. I’ve had lots of drink over the years and got into some right states, and acted like a right a#se. I’ve never managed to do anything like that though which demonstrates that he must have been a right work of art. Especially when he knew there was a camera crew on the ground. That’s not even the worst of it, treating your mother like that in front of her own mother and you - no mother and son should ever see that. I’m so glad I’ve seen your podcast and the boy in the video has grown into a clever, fair minded and balanced chap who is willing to to give the benefit of the doubt - as demonstrated by your contact with Bob Mills. I know Bob Mills talks about Paul Sykes and using this for entertainment, I really think he wanted to use Tom as the entertainment in the same vein, but the difference with the Paul Sykes videos was that no abuse towards others came from that so it’s different. At least though you both agree that apologising isn’t enough, it’s your actions now and how you carry yourself forward, using the past to make better decisions (which is why history is so important). I do know on the SOTE follow up Ian is interviewed again and mentions Tom no longer lives in the area, and he was a recipient of karma. I don’t know what happened there (and I’m not fishing) but I do recall a scene where Tom genuinely couldn’t remember how many kids he had because he was permanently pickled. Cheers Ricky and wishing you the best, Alex

Difficult to watch people laughing at such a tragic situation, and the comment about her face being blurred, implying it was because she was unattractive and not to hide her identity really hurt 😔 , it couldn't have been further from the truth, she was a beautiful broken woman , She was my friend ❤ ........glad he rightly apologised and has learned from it,.... very interesting interview, got a better insight into homelessness, Ricky what you said about sofa surfing was spot on and the point Bob made about not falling for the "well its my age that's how we talked way back when" was very true, just cos you're old it's not OK ....... proud of you Ricky x

Hi Ricky, really interesting podcast. First of all really glad you are doing well. I enjoyed ‘In my bed with my dinner’ back in the day, but some of it including the clip of your mother was ill judged and should not have been aired. Respect to you for turning your life around. What are you doing now? Assume you have left the navy.

I loved watching In Bed with my Dinner and remember laughing at the scene with your mother unfortunately. I was younger and didn't take into account that that was real. You can't always tell if things are real or fake on Telly. Really sorry Ricky about your Mother. Could you tell me what happened to your step dad?. I watched the whole series The Estate and always wanted too know what happened to him

Hi there. I looked for Ian and eventually found his niece. From the information I found on him, he was arrested for marrying an African woman in order to get her a visa and in the court report it said he was a crack cocaine addict which I can very much picture. I debated looking for him to see if it was possible to make contact with him but his niece messaged me to say they'd been informed he'd passed away. This was a few years ago. He was a curious case really. Very very intelligent man in a lot of aspects. University educated and a very talented artist and musician but a lazy alcoholic who seemed to decide to slum it. I wrestle with how I feel about him to be honest. There was a part of me that hoped he'd turned out okay but there's also a part of me that resents how poor of a father figure he was. It's almost like he chose that kind of lifestyle isn't it?
