Julia Hartley-Brewer meets author, Douglas Murray in the second episode of her new series, Inside the News. The two discuss his new book, The Madness Of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity.
Douglas Murray examines the twenty-first century's most divisive issues: sexuality, gender, technology and race. He reveals the astonishing new culture wars playing out in our workplaces, universities, schools and homes in the names of social justice, identity politics and 'intersectionality'.

@@craigfowler7098 JP was consistently very clear in his explanations if you take his old lecture material, however, in recent years, especially after his benzo stage, he often gets lost and consumed by his own articulative way of speaking and has difficult time getting the point across. sometimes, he does, but very very often he does not.

What I am most grateful for is that he is in our lifetime. Amongst all the total trash and utterly ridiculous minds living in the same world as ours it's wonderful we can help ourselves to exist by reading his books and listening to wise people like him. My son was in his teen yrs when he started reading his books and it set him on a path of reading, teaching himself about the world by listening to Douglad Murray and thinking sense abilities that will last a lifetime..

Agreed. The problem with judging people by "the content of their character" is that unlike in the 70s and 80s, it's now a settled debate. Some groups and communities have been proven to be totally lacking in character or any redeeming quality. One community in my opinion is a monolith of bad actors and poor characters. They can no longer wished to be judged by their character because they have none. I imagine MLK knew this at the time but hoped with time they'd overcome. It's utterly depressing and wholly hilarious to see them try to pretend.

I remarked that it was so good to be able to see him set out his stall and not have people constantly interrupting him with straw man arguments constantly trying to twist his words and frame them in ways he did not intend. Well said Karl. As a woman, I am equally horrified by the neo-feminist movement which dictates that women are better than men and I am astonished to find that even some men seem to have fallen into submission and have accepted that it is socially acceptable for women to ridicule, belittle and put men (as a group entity) down and yet it is unacceptable for women to be criticised for this (unacceptable apparently because they tells us that we women are a suppressed group!). Regardless of our gender, sexuality, race, or religious identities, we are INDIVIDUALS first and foremost and should be judged as an individual.

My cousin who is a one of my closest friends came out last year in an extremely religious conservative family who are all close. He did in fact face a bit of stigma if im honest and I felt awful about it. But I've asked him and he's not even really sure that there is such thing as an 'lgbt' community. Would you agree? I meant I don't see any trans and lesbian friend groups at the cinema. Most of his friends are straight, he certainly doesn't select for an identity group. Is that a thing in your experience? Sorry for personal questions but this is fairly anonymous

For reasons I do not know, about half the time I reply to someone, KZbin puts up "@Somebody," as happened in your reply to me and my reply to you that I am currently writing. But the other half of the time, KZbin does not specify which "@Somebody" user I am replying to. If it doesn't automatically come up, I always physically write in the "@Somebody" I am replying to. Sometimes I am replying to multiple people, in which case I physically write in the @Somebody-TheAdditionalPerson in my reply, so that whoever I want a reply from is aware I'm talking to them. I think what we've discovered is another emergent property of the internet and social media, a characteristic of mass psychosis not found in the individual user. I wonder how well a web based global petition for reason (to show the left they are in the minority) would go? They are conquering reasonable people by singling them out for reparation and cancellation, drawn and quartered. In a way, the IDW had started a movement like this but never seemed to materialize a guiding system for organizing against such an emerging gestapo.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s, I remember my father once saying in reference to the poverty and oppression clearly evident in some of the poorest undeveloped areas in the world at that time, “that but for the fact that one ovum and one sperm at one particular time in one particular place, you could have easily have been born there instead of here”. The ‘here’ he was speaking of is Canada, a country our family emigrated to in 1955 from the Netherlands. We landed at Pier 1 in Halifax. My dad had $5 in his pocket - our entire family fortune. Both our mother and father were huge proponents of hard work, a good education for their children - sons and daughters. I suppose being white was a privilege but we lived a a predominantly white society. So the biggest distinguishing factor was ‘class’. Race was not even an issue back then. Only equality of opportunity….and that too was and still is of importance to me and that too is what is critical for all people no matter race, or sex or religion or culture. If we could all just believe in that, we would be so much better off.
