Now that's really sad to start with, but I think I would go a little further and suggest that the UK simply isn't a country anymore. We're are just another machine to convert the efforts of human beings and convert that into cash, very little of which actually gets into the worker's pockets. The machine (including the media in that) repeatedly gives us people to blame, generation after generation, and we suck it up with the mind that we're doing good by protesting. A crime investigated and a crime solved. It helps with the statistics of a Police Force. It counters the burglary, phone and bike theft statistics that show Police forces to be utterly useless. Report a burglary and be given a crime reference number. Report a NCHI and they will have the full weight of every available unit at your door. Suella Braverman stood up against this and every Police force chose to ignore her. Look closely at reported and attended crime statistics. A huge drain on resources. I don't know how true this is but I was told two years ago that theft of a phone or theft following a burglary can be reported as lost property incidents by Police forces to massage the figures.
