Heat pumps do work !! . They are not new ,they have been all over European cold countries for decades . Disadvantage in UK and the reason why I think it cannot be drawn out across all building types here ,Is because old stock housing such as solid wall terraced types located all over UK ...To gain max efficiency from the heat pumps you would need max insulation inc. underfloor , draft proofing , .I cannot see this shambles of a government or any future governments spending this huge amount of money per household .Really maybe cheaper to demolish and build new .

@@sfactory8253 😂😂😂 But the dire state of our energy and the fact that we have the most expensive electricity costs in the world IS the fault of both Labour and Tories!! The only thing renewable about wind and solar farms is that they have to be renewed every 15-20 years!🤬 And as for pension credits, it’s only available to pensioners with an income less than £9,500. The others, those on the full state pension of a massive £11,500 get nothing towards their heating!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬 We have one of the lowest state pensions in Europe, and the highest electricity costs - higher even than Germany. Heat pumps are a non starter if you need 7500 grant, the pumps are expensive, you need to fit a 6kw load socket for the pump ( cooker socket requires 2.5 kw), replace the radiators with large ones, lift the floorboards to install larger bore pipes, retro fit insulation a lot of insulation, install electric shower, immersion heating for a bath and big budget for redecorating after your home is torn apart to achieve this. You won't save any money on your electric bill and won't save the planet and you'll still be cold with a system you cannot afford to turn on and you need supplementary heating when it's really cold. You would save money just heating the room you're in one at a time or a couple of electric radiators, electric throw blankets on sofas and chairs lots of loose comfy layered clothing. If you can a wood burner for cold nights but heat pump only idiots would invest 30k on new central heating system. New builds are mandatory but doesn't suit people who are out all day working to pay a mortgage and want a responsive gas boiler to rapidly heat their homes when needed. Scotland and other parts of the UK can gave temperatures that rapidly drop in the evening and heating pumps just don't respond quickly enough.

How many MP'S have these heat pumps Not paid for by the tax payers
@iainsanАй бұрын
Like many people in the UK, I live in a Victorian terraced house. It is fairly well-insulated, but can never be insulated sufficiently for a heat pump to work. They are also incredibly noisy, so if all my neighbours and I had one the din would be intolerable.
@blotonthelandАй бұрын
How can we go all electric when you have power companies saying use the cheaper off peak rates and in my eyes all we are doing is moving the off peak times around?? so if we all go electric that means there will be no off peak rates and we will be getting ripped off 10 fold.

Just read this on a heat pump myth busting site..."They can convert 1 kilowatt of electricity into 3.5 kilowatts of heat, meaning they are 350% efficient." Well, that breaks the first and zeroth law of thermodynamics for a start.....You cannot create energy from nothing.. Gas boilers are 90% efficient at best but that is within the laws of physics and is acceptable....

Heat Pumps are also noisy. Recently I went to view a small house the pump was in the garden and you could not be out there in peace whilst it was on.

I live in the north of Scotland, its 2 degrees, at 1:30pm, in London its 7 degrees. The "standard" heat pump loses most efficiency under 5 degrees, you need to spend a small fortune to get a " cold climate" one. All the figures are based on "best" not actual performance. THEY DONT WORK!!

Ed Miliband, proof that a little knowledge is extremely dangerous. Good point made about either being ignorant on a subject and needing to take expert advice or being an absolute expert on the subject. Know it or get the hell out.

This poor woman worked all her life and can't afford to stay warm whilst illegal immigrants enjoy cosy 4 star hotels with free food, dentistry and doctors plus spending money , televisions, mobile phones and so on. In Finland, on days of peak demand, the 1.5 million installed heat-pumps increase grid demand by 3GW. If we now imagine winters like the one in 2010 (where we were colder than Finland), the UK could be looking at a potential increase in grid demand of > 56GW. How much is 56GW? Well, right now UK demand is 43GW, with the Hornsea ONE offshore wind-farm (covering 300sq miles) generating 1.25GW. Meanwhile, the new Hinkley C reactor will (when it eventually comes on line) generate 3.2GW. So JUST to power ASHP during a severe winter, the UK would need an offshore wind farm covering 13,400sq miles, or 18 nuclear stations the size of Hinkley C. All of this is known, as is the fact that it is completely impossible for the UK to generate this amount of power before 2075, yet still the UK Civil Service pushes and promotes an absurd ideology that will see tens of thousands of people freeze and starve to death every year.

I want a vote on net zero, it's a bigger deal than brexit vote to me. These people have totally forgotten they are OUR SERVANTS, the power dynamic is totally reversed and for too long. NO ONE voted for net zero, the people may well want it but we need a vote on the pace. I am embarrassed to be here with the optics on we have money for anything, unless you need heating as a pensioner. It is scandalous the cost of our energy period.
@diggershave313 күн бұрын
Yep we need a vote on everything this government does ,everything dont trust them with 1p !! Milliband must not be given a penny!!
@raptorheli213 күн бұрын
@diggershave3 I want votes on anything that aren't easily reversible by next government or impacts everyone. At a minimum if it isn't in manifesto it shouldn't happen as a policy.

That summed it up pretty well, I am a pensioner and I have no heating on either. No to net zero.

So we all know that even if we achieved net zero, it will make a 1% difference to the planet. Did anyone see the article on the BBC about the smog in India? Visibilty was down to two metres. The images were quite shocking. So until countries like India and China get aboard with this net zero crap, there is absolutely no point in it. Our bills are already astronomically high, and despite Labour saying they would put a cap on energy bills, (one of the countless lies they have told) our bills keep going up to fund their pointless plan. There's a song by the Bee Gees that perfectly describes this government. TRAGEDY!
