I’m an Englishman first because of the separatist elements of the other nations but Neil Oliver genuinely gives me a feeling of the Unitedness we may have felt with Scots and the other home nations alike. We did the unconscious bias training at work. We were shown a short clip of actors speaking and then asked who we would choose to go out for a coffee with. I chose a woman of similar age (late 20s/ early 30s) to myself. If I'd chosen the older guy, I'd have felt awkward because it might feel like an unwanted date. Is this bigotry? The middle aged men in the group also picked the middle aged man. I imagine they felt equally awkward by the thought of asking a young woman out for a drink. Does this make them sexist bigots? I don't think so. I see it as respectful of female boundaries - and probably their own as well. That seems to be what is intentionally being broken down here and Neil's right that it's dystopian and creepy as hell. Plus, why does my work need to know who I prefer socialise with?
