Shamima Begum's lawyers are determined to continue the legal battle after their latest attempt to restore her British citizenship was unsuccessful in the court of appeal.
The judges unanimously ruled that the former home secretary, Sajid Javid, had the authority to overlook concerns about her potential victimization as a child trafficked when she joined ISIS in 2015.
The court also deemed Javid's actions lawful, even if it left Begum, now 24, effectively stateless, as she held Bangladeshi citizenship until her 21st birthday.
The argument about the impact on British Muslims was dismissed due to a national security exemption.
Cristo speaks with political commentator Jonathon Lis.

Canadian government paid with our money for their free chartered flights. Once here, in Canada there were placed in 4- 5 ***hotels "all included" for about 2 years. We - as taxpayers- paid for this. But Syrians never stopped complaining. They gave interviews saying that they WERE LURED to come here and they were promised free houses with gardens and swimming pools. She wasn't born here she obviously doesn't show her birth cert. I read ions ago she came over with a large extended family on her parents Bangladeshi passport. We can see her birth cert on line if she was born here. I don't believe anything these people say they turn on a sixpence. Like Begum changed her clothes to look western quite expensive American style caps and sweatshirts from her black garb and dying her hair chestnut make up etc. yet she had been guilty of crimes in Syria - why don't the Syrians deal with her. I think you are defending her. You have no solid argument - she was responsible for supporting the Manchester bombings - she had the history of killing Syrians and agreeing to the suicide vests saying the British should be killed in the same way. She is a nasty piece of work and the limp excuses the human rights lawyer who doesn't seem very bright to me put forward - she was a trafficked child but in their culture the arranged marriages can be with the female being 10 years old just like one of Mohammed's wives I think Ayisha was 10 years old. So they change their goalposts to suit their argument - they will be stoning out women soon for a non existent adultery by the Sharia laws which are roan in this country now in 2000 there were twenty one areas in Britain run by Sharia law and the do gooders Guardian reading Clerkenwell ,& Camden lefties seem to want this country on its knees. She is not British made. She was born to Bangladeshi parents. She had dual citizenship - Bangladeshi/British - used by immigrant parents for safer movement between countries and moving financial benefits. She lived her life in an Islamic background and upbringing which is far removed from a British upbringing. The UK had every right to remove British citizenship, the Bangladeshi citizenship was removed after the British tore up her passport, so the UK did not leave her high and dry. She was well aware of her family roots and what she was doing to infer she was trafficked is a joke. I believe her parents and family should also have British citizenship removed and be deported.
@gracecollins8415
@gracecollins8415 5 ай бұрын
Begum voluntary relinquished her British Citizenship before she left Britain. Begum's father left her and her mother (since deceased) in Britain and now has a home back in Bangladesh where he lives with another wife and children and has stated that she is not welcome and he won't have her in his house. There is no suggestion that she could not live elsewhere in Bangladesh. Begum is married to a Dutch jihadist Yago Riedijk who is alive in another camp and was hoping to return to the Netherlands where he expected to stand trial and serve around six years. They communicate regularly and he urges Begum to fight to return to Britain so they can be together (in Britain perhaps?) ' and raise a family. Of course, that opens up a whole other can of worms with the Family Reunion provisions of the Act. It would appear that Begum, as the wife of a Dutch man already has a legitimate claim to citizenship in the Netherlands so it's not as if she has nowhere to go. Let's face it, with the Strict Rules of Evidence that must be met in a British Court, Begum is likely to never face trial in Britain but it may not be so in the Netherlands.

Then we have a shortage of care workers so thousands of Zimbabwean care workers came over and they live in one city (claiming benefit) aka Leeds and travel to Nott's to 'do live in home care @ £850 weekly,' they get £56 extra to revisit their family in Zimbabwe and do three weeks on and one week off going back to Leeds from Notts. They have names made up like Previous, Pretty, Princess, Perfect and sit there with their expensive laptops and do nothing my friend a tetraplegic they panicked and two on duty didn't know how to deal with anaphylactic shock She died they are NOT trained they don't do anything by the time they Rang the. NHS nurse she was dead. They ate, watched TV, played cards, had their washing done food put on front of them etc. so 3 weeks on at £850 plus their holiday money of £56 week to visit family and under a different name lives in a different city like Leeds. Working for an American company Medicare. The lady Precious had a black male boyfriend and she brought two sons over 14 & 16 to live in the Leeds flat whilst she was working in Heanor Derbyshire We surely don't have to put up with substandard care workers like that ? What exactly is the qualification of this person, Jonathan Lis, to say he knows better than the Home Secretary, Security Services and the Law Courts? We have boat loads of potential terrorists flooding over the English Channel daily, without the need to fly one in from Syria. She committed crimes in Syria, why does she need to be tried in the UK

She was definitely a perpetrator. I've watched a documentary on the morality police it is reported she was a member of and it's horrendous how they treated women. I'd rather give her citizenship to a Yazidi women that she thought it was OK to use as a slave. Citizenship should be a privilege not a right. I'm a dual national, second generation immigrant and love the UK and our liberal values.

Butt her lawyers are primarily being paid by taxpayers. One of her lawyers says they will appeal. As long as he is guaranteed an source of income he will continue to appeal on her behalf. Perhaps the courts should put a limit on the number of appeals the government will fund. If the Muslim community and the bleeding hearts want to fund more appeals, let them.

Begum is 'British made?' That sounds interesting. A Toyota car coming off the production line in Sunderland will always be 'Japanese' because of its Japanese design with Japanese components, but probably useful because of its reliability despite its mechanical incompatibility with any domestic 'British' product. Begum is likewise clearly Bangladeshi-designed with Bangladeshi DNA, but her persistent 'Bangladeshi' behaviour making her ideologically incompatible with traditional UK standards even though she was apparently 'assembled' in the UK. So whilst a Toyota car's reputedly reliable performance would probably make it a valuable asset to any British owner, Begum has proved beyond any doubt that she can only be a disruptive and probably dangerous and expensive liability, and of very little constructive use to the self-respecting British people.

JL sums up the debate, but he doesn’t address the law. She clearly doesn’t have “the right” to come back and defend herself in a court of law. She is a traitor and a national security threat, however that happened and she is suffering the consequences of the actions she took to deserve that designation. Which seems to mean a withdrawal of all rights to British citizenship for her AND her offspring. Tough, but there you go.

Where were the parents in all this? How did the girl arrange everything without anyone in the household knowing? If the parents sanctioned Shamim joining Isis, then they should be booted out as well. I can definitely see where eloping and getting married to a soldier would seem romantic to a young, stupid girl who believed everything she was being fed online, especially if she wanted to quit school and get out from under her parents' authority.

"eloping and getting married to a soldier" is a very euphemistically romantic lens through which to view her actions. The soldier was an ISIS militant, she approved of the actions of the soldiers of the Caliphate: the beheadings and rape and murder of women and girls, and she travelled freely to a medieval hell-hole to find a husband who engaged in all of that. She lost three children in the process and shrugged it off. It's a classic Mills & Boon plot! 🤣

Begum voluntary relinquished her British Citizenship before she left Britain. Begum's father left her and her mother (since deceased) in Britain and now has a home bacck in Bangladesh where he lives with another wife and children and has stated that she is not welcome and he won't have her in his house.

Says it all who wants her back.

According to her lawyer it’s a “two-tier citizenship in her case because of her Bangladeshi ancestry”.. so from that logic how can she now be “British made” the point is she shows no sincere sorrow or any remorse in her decision to join a terrorist organisation and for the comments she made on the atrocities committed by the group she supported by Islamic state and the terrorist atrocities committed in the name of jihad here in the UK. If there is not a sincere apology for the deception to the British public for her actions in her “naivety and vulnerability of being groomed to be radicalised” in the narrative that herself, her sympathisers and her lawyer portrays why should she be invited back into the country that she was so quick to betray and show no remorse for the atrocities committed in the ideology she followed and also where are more followers of the same ideology agreeing that she was “groomed” to join an islamic caliphate?

She'll keep getting denied in court and the problem is she can appeal as many times as she wants. I do wonder how the courts can think this way about an Isis bride and not about the thousands of illegal migrants coming here every year. A majority of illegal migrants commit crimes and get let off. I consider her a threat to national security but given what the UK has been going through in terms of violent protesters. Would we really notice any difference if she was here on the streets of Britain?
