Liverpool fan here - Plymouth were worthy winners, well done to them. Lots of rotation from Slot, a lot of kids on the pitch, but even the senior players that played were poor. However, am I disappointed? Only in the sense that I expected the senior players that were on the pitch to do more, but other than that, no. Fighting on four fronts is tough. I'm glad Slot rotated, we have far more important games coming up. In another season where we weren't primed in all 3 other competitions, I would be furious getting knocked out by Plymouth, but I actually think this is a blessing in disguise. We can rest players now during future FA Cup rounds and focus our attention on maintaining our lead at the top of the Premier League, trying to win the League Cup final and progressing in the knock out rounds of the Champions League.

Plymouth's defence were giants yesterday. Plymouth also doubled up on Diaz and Chiesa and shackled the two of them until the last 10 mins when Plymouth tired. Plymouth made it hard for Liverpool to play football, were in their faces as much as possible not giving time on the ball. Liverpool made to many changes, it showed some of the young lads are not ready for this level yet. Liverpool were also poor to a man. Well done Argyle. Well deserved.

Yes, this all sounds sensible, however, the team PA played was not Liverpool. One can have expressive and talented forwards, but if they don't get the service and width, then the up-front players can struggle. Bottom line, Liverpool clearly chose not to put up a good team, playing youngsters - just look at the midfield and defence, packed full of people who don't appear generally. IT's a shame because PA can't have the claim of being giant killers. They can try but they will know they didn't play the team that had the badge.

Plymouth came to Ashton Gate and after a drab first half which Bristol City dominated without doing much bar a couple of chances they then got smashed 4-0. Worst side at the Gate this season. Slot should've kept a senior spine throughout the team. Left CB and CM weak which Plymouth exploited with physicality. It was obvious they were going to do that.

Well Newcastle made 9 changes (with a much smaller squad than Liverpool) so basically a team that hasn’t played together and they still ground out a result…against a team that are only 1 place below Plymouth (Birmingham are 1st in League 1, Plymouth are 24th in the Championship).

Yep agree. I’m really disappointed of course and so was Slot. The problem seemed to be that there were maybe 7 players out there trying to play different ways, rather than having the core of the team the same + some youngsters/fringe players. I’m surprised some of those players weren’t on the bench to come on for 20 mins and win the game, but they weren’t. Maybe Slot made some decisions and they didn’t work out, along with some bad luck (Gomez injury and Jones injury before the match)

As for the huge rotation Slot did I back him 100% doing it and the biggest example from yesterday was the injury to Gomez, imagine if that had been one of first team starters...VVD, Macalister or Salah...Liverpool fans would have been fuming. So there are no regrets here, im frustrated, dissapointed that we lost and didnt perform in the game but we are literally playing every 3 days at the moment, we cannot play our first 11 every 3 days its impossible.

liverpool kinda needed to prioritize premier and champions league and they already in carabou cup final there would just be too many games squshed together to play as last season caused injuries and fatigue then started drawing and losing premier league games and ended up 3rd

as a forest fan, we play exeter at their St james park tomorrow night, and we are going to have to respect them, after that plymouth result. with the sides that have gone out already it could be a chance of silverware for us! But 1 thing i would say rather than 5th spot getting a champions league spot, it should be the winners of the FA CUP, atleast they would be champions along with the league winners. and maybe it would bring some more respect back to the cup!!

When Liverpool are so thin at the back a weekend off when its FA cup weekend is a positive. I don't like getting beat but with the CL games its a lots of games ESPECIALLY when FSG haven't reinforced for last two windows. The game was lost in midfield, never got a grip of it and Jota had a bad day too. But less fames has to be a positive. Playing 11 guys that dont usually play together, don't have that gameday experience together, its going to be a nightmare if it doesn't go well.

Liverpool fan here, if Arsenal lost to Plymouth ofcourse there’d be uproar as they are spending billions did not go through a major managerial change and most importantly have nothing else to win this season At the start of the season many predicted top 4 for Liverpool would be tough to get, so the fact that they can disregard an FA Cup game makes sense when they are invested heavily in PL CL and Carabao. If Arsenal were top of PL top of CL and in a Carabao final, all we’d be hearing about is how this Arsenal team is second only to Pep’s Barcelona.

The reality is that Liverpool were very poor in the midfield especially Elliott, who I thought would bring some experience and energy, but he was exactly the opposite. Anyway, Plymouth will have to visit Man City next round, so basically Liverpool should be happy not having additional tough games.

It's a weak argument to say Liverpool didn't have the big names playing. Other than 3 kids, the rest were all first team players with almost 200 appearances this season and a front line worth over £150M. The early injury unsettled them but I expected we were going to be hanging on in the last 20 minutes as they laid siege to the Argyle goal and it didn't happen. The flat performance was also reflected in the away fans who were virtually silent all game. Well done Argyle, you can only beat who is put in front of you and you beat a team of seasoned pros and some of the most talented kids from probably the best academy setup in England at the moment. It was well deserved but good luck to Liverpool for their season. They are aiming for the biggest prizes and have a schedule that is not sustainable to play at 100% in over 60+ games, there will be the odd blip. Anyway, on to Millwall on Weds....
