I don’t know if he actually called it a master stroke but what I do know for sure is that he said that it was risk to put players on those long contracts. He specifically said that there was a risk to be offering contracts of that length because offloading them would be next to impossible and could cause him all sorts of problems. If you’re going to quote him, then at least quote him in full!

@@raimesey Actually I think the biggest obstacle big clubs have when they want to offload a player is the high salary. If a player is underperforming or not playing due to injury naturally it will be difficult to find a club that would be willing to offer a similar salary. And in most cases players don't want to accept a lower salary so they run down their contract. But almost all of the Chelsea players that are on a long contract have a very average Premier league salary (around 100k per week or less). Obviously another club then also needs to offer a suitable transfer fee, but the only players so far they would have trouble getting a suitable transfer fee for are Caicedo, Mudryk and W. Fofana, so I don't think it's as bad as it's made out to be but time will tell...

@kevinwhale2998......I am a Man Utd supporter and not long ago, Poch was being 'bigged-up' by the media and all these so-called 'expert' pundits [and many Utd fans, to be fair] as the perfect choice for our next manager. He may be a really nice guy and he had Spurs playing some excellent football. But what has Poch ever won? I was SO relieved when we decided to appoint Ten Hag [who has actually won trophies!] and feel we dodged a bullet. We are now seeing how truly unexceptional Poch really is. This is why I absolutely hate the media. For whatever reason, they zone in on certain people and make them out to be almost God-like based on absolutely nothing. Yet they can arbitrarily destroy someone else simply because they dress oddly [ie: Simon Jordan] or speak with a funny accent! At the end of the day the proof of the pudding are the results [and the 'style of play'] of a team. Chelsea right now are a total shambles having spent the national debt of some countries. Maybe Poch will turn Chelsea around - but I wouldn't hold my breath! It seems that in life, as long as your 'face fits' that's all that matters and that really accomplished people are ignored and often derided.

Jordan - the problem is that Boehly's approach was to dismantle the team completely and build with expensive young talent without a clear football philosophy. Everyone wanted Caicedo. Arsenal knew exactly how they would use him. Liverpool as well. Chelsea only knew that Caicedo is good and that they should get him. That's it. You then end up with 7/8 Caicedos in your team, without a clear philosophy. That's on Boehly. A lot of fans were saying that last year, but "experts" and Chelsea fans were too happy seeing the expensive talent sign a 7-year contract at their club and disregard the concerns about this youth project. A youth project can work. Boehly just went about it the absolute wrong way for this period in football. Maybe in the 1990s and early 2000s it could have worked, where coaches let players express their natural talent more often. Not now

The main problem is Chelsea signed far too many players, with just a few of real quality. However, when all were given 8 years of contract, they can't be sold at a huge loss since it's very bad for FFP. If there's no manager or DoF who can figure out a system or formation that get this team to start playing well in a short time, they'd be in real trouble. It feels this could take them many years to sort this out.

The issue is the players they have let go in recent seasons that are better then the current crop. Tomori and Guehi are better CBs then Disasi and Badiashille, Pulisic over Mudryk any day of the week. GKs have been horrendous, Alonso they sold and brought in Cucurella the list is endless Kovacic Gilmour etc. Whoever is over this needs instant sacking then they can maybe go again but it's only going to get worse

Liverpool wanted to pursue Lavia after Caicedo went for Chelsea. Chelsea, for some unknown reason...probably just to get at Liverpool for pursuing Caicedo, paid Southampton above the asking price. @@philbarton2832 98/99 team were not kids Gary Neville, beckham and Scholes were 24, giggs 25, Stam and solskjaer 26, keane, Cole n Yorke 27, Sheringham 33 etc. Arsenal squad has been built over 4 1/2 years and has alot of experience. Chelsea have some experience but most players haven't been at club longer than a year and mostly inexperienced u23.

Mourinho has been sacked in his last 3 coaching experience prematurely, in Rome he created one of the most ugly teams to watch in Italy and Europe, always complaining, games with fouls in each play and very very poor game quality. Referees over the last year or so have claimed Roma game's are impossible to referee cos of the attitude of Jose and his staff. Looking back he has the results, but the game has changed and he hasn't evolved. You believe bringing a new coach every once in a while is the solution, but the issue lays in the fact that this club doesn't have a technical project, sport wise at least. Flushing money and signing new coaches leads to a big mess, with false high expectation and poor results.
