His tactics consisted of (a) getting the ball to Doku and hoping he figures something out (b) CBs trying to recreate the Kompany 2019 moment Roy Keane is gonna have a field day with another big game ghosting by Haaland. He really doesn't offer much in terms of passing, build up or even pressing. Spent most of the game just waiting for them to pass him the ball instead of trying to drop deep or make different runs to get it himself.

Really? Because in my eyes, his tactics I admit early on, in possession was decent, just not able to be clinical against a 11 man compacted defence. Bringing on doku was the best decision for him to pull players make space and go for it. The mistake on defence wasn't really even him. You can see him shouting at the touchline for kovacic not to be the last line instead for rodri to stay and kovacic to push up create play in third half. Kovacic just had a disaster, rodri pushed up to cover for his role, kovacic who's then the last line moves up to mark Fernandes, doesn't track back when Fernandes moves, Bruno hits the pass for the second goal. The 1st goal I understand is his fault maybe in terms of the lax press from the players, lack of respect for united but otherwise he didn't REALLY make too much mistakes.

@@YourAverageBunny Possession is nothing in football though, if you don't do something with it. It's okay to pass the ball around the halfway line when you're winning the game, but to do it when it's 0-0, and to have this overly-cautious attitude, is a mistake in my opinion. Sometimes you have to play direct football, and try to score a goal, even if that's just testing the opponents goalkeeper, with Onana especially being a great weak point for United, with his error-proneness. When you watched the game, United just looked far more threatening whenever they received the ball, because they had the actual intent to score a goal, and would play direct and attacking football. I don't understand what City's tactics were really, to bore United to death? People claim that they're the best team in the world, with some of the best attacking players in the world, but if that's the case, why didn't they show it, and go toe-to-toe with United? Because it wasn't like United were being cagey themselves. Often when United received the ball, they'd end up losing it soon after, by trying to play direct football, and trying to pass the ball forwards. So City could have just done the same, and made the game far more open, and surely, if they're as good as they claim to be, that would suit them? Instead they did very little. It wasn't until Doku came on, that City had a threat to them, with his direct play-style, but by that point, it was far too late. Anyway, the better team won for sure, and City's tactics were wrong, and Ten Hag got the better of Guardiola for sure this time.

City just didn't do enough in the game. They looked scared of United and were overly cautious. It's okay to keep hold of the ball and pass it around, but at some point you have to try and score a goal, and to remember that the objective in football is to outscore your opponent. City just lacked any directness to their play, and it wasn't until Doku came on and started to play more direct football, that they caused United issues. But United were just by far the better team, and they looked far more threatening every time they got the ball, playing direct and attacking football, with genuine threat. City's tactics to me, just didn't make sense, because it wasn't like United themselves were making the game cagey, as soon as United got the ball, they often lost it, by playing risky and direct passes, but then City would just go back to playing it around the halfway line, and having this very slow, overly-cautious build-up. They could have just been more direct, knowing they'd likely get the ball back soon after if they lost it. And if they've got these so-called amazing attacking players, and believe they're the best in the world, surely that would suit them? Also Uniteds one big weakness, is their goalkeeper, Onana, who's extremely error prone, as he was for City's only goal. So why they didn't try to test him more, I don't know. Anyway, was a great game for United, and shows that Guardiola, despite how successful he's been, is only human, and makes mistakes, because his tactics in this game were wrong.
