I think he is spot on with all the tactical insight but I would argue United were amazing because they bought superstars, they were great because the role players did their jobs and Sir Alex got them to buy in and exceed expectations. The workman like players are what sustains a club so the foundation is set for the superstars to win the games.

I remember the 89-90 and how much it resembled last season, injury crisis, club ownership up in the air(ie he Michael Knighton failed ownership) getting spanked 5-1 by city. Players not performing. Fans calling for Fergie to be sacked. Finishing 13th. Winning the FA cup. The board sticking by their man. Who knows what would have happened if SAF was sacked and not gone onto win Utds first league title in 92 since Busby in 67.

Spending £90m on a position that was filled less than one season before with a £75m player.
