What's clearly evident is that these former players still harbor bias based on rivalries from when they played no matter how objective they try to portray themselves to be. This alone is the reason why it would never work. What's needed is that there needs to be a point system for refereeing performances. This can possibly unearth good officials from the other divisions as well rather than have the same so called incompetent PL referees year after year
@croffordlemba8018 Жыл бұрын
This already exists bro, and PGMOL sends refs emails a week before they officiate their next game showing them their points tally for decisions. Check out tifo football they explained. What's needed is diversity in refs across the whole footballing profession, now hear me out on this one. The leagues across Europe use refs from their respective countries. If we could have refs from other nations who are the best come over it would help a lot kinda like we do with footballers. Imagine if the leagues only featured players from their own countries. Being a ref is a tough job and requires a skill set many humans don't have. Notice that we have fewer errors in cross contentinatal competitions than in domestic leagues. There's a reason for that.

Because, when they make these calculated mistakes, they should not only apologize, but should be charged with a points deductible system that would eventually have them suspended and eventually banned. Just get rid of VAR! 1. These meltdowns were barely happening pre VAR in comparison to today. 2. It’s slowed the game down dramatically (watch an old PL classic and tell me the game didn’t flow better). 3. If a trained linesman does not see any advantage with their trained eyes, I’m sorry a fractional offside should benefit the attacker. 4. To my point above, the same goes with a defender tackle in the box. If it’s not clear that contact was made on the player/ball (and again is marginal) benefit should go to defender. 5. Football is a human game, played by humans, for humans who should be reffed by humans. And ALL humans make mistakes, refs included. Conclusion: keep goal line technology, add to all boundaries of the field as there is no subjectivity. Pay refs a lot more money to attract the best and ramp up the training regime from top to bottom.

I don’t understand why Simon and Jim insist on crucifying Arsenal for this. They said nothing disrespectful. They released a statement to support their manager after they felt they were cheated. On top of that, other clubs are benefiting from their terrible decisions.
@ManUnited6380 Жыл бұрын
you just answered your own stupid question - the club also needs to be penalized because they released a statement of support for a ridiculous lash out against referees claiming arsenal was cheated (implying the match is fixed and the league is somehow corrupted by the officials). high profile managers like arteta and klopp publicly bashing VAR "ONLY" when it goes against them week in and week out is the reason why the VAR can't be consistent because it encourages everyone in the industry to keep demanding something one week, and something different the week after. the reason why they shouldn't overstep their authority and bash the officials is not simply because officials deserve respect, it's because doing so rids the sport of integrity and trust. Once people lose trust in the rules and the system of the sport then you no longer have a properly functioning professional league.

Also, according to MK EVERY TIME any player lays 2 hands on any player, regardless of pressure or circumstance, it’s definitely a foul. VAR isn't the problem per se, our expectations of VAR, is. Anyone who thought VAR would get rid of 'the grey area of the game' was always living in fantasy land. As Simon correctly pointed out, too much of the game itself is Subjective, and VAR cannot and will not solve that. Maybe we should go back to accepting that mistakes will always be part of the game. 🤷
@fady02 Жыл бұрын
Subjective I can understand, but fans are expecting consistency. We see non-calls on fouls that were just called the previous games, we see ridiculous decisions (In the case of Arsenal, having a goal chalked off last season for a non-offside vs Brentford, another in the United loss, another in the Palace game and this season with Tomiyasu's red card, Kovacic not getting red-carded etc.) that should not be acceptable at this level of the game in the best league in the world. The inconsistency this season has been crazy. United had a goal ruled out (Vs Brighton?) for the ball being "out" even though the angle is almost exactly the same as the Newcastle goal which was then deemed "indecisive", and we see Haaland get a penalty for a touch/grab that is much softer than the one on Gabriel for the Newcastle goal. Fans don't know what is and isn't a foul anymore because the level of subjectivity and the "Grey zone" is different from game to game and it shouldn't be the case. It was more understandable with one ref who only gets to see things one time in full speed and can occasionally miss something, but now that they can properly view it, the incompetence isn't acceptable
@harryale Жыл бұрын
No, VAR is not the problem, the incompetent referees and Howard Webb is the problem.
@mainmansentertainment Жыл бұрын
@fady02 "Subjective I can understand, but fans are expecting consistency." That expectation is valid, but I have the same expectation of consistency from players and I don't always get it. I think Gabriel was pushed in the back, but as we see, others (including former players) aren't so sure. VAR will never be able to fix that. Better referees would help, but it will not lead to perfection.
@scottjohnson3971 Жыл бұрын
Well said, but VAR did mess up in the Liverpool vs spurs game - VAR is there to correct clear and obvious mistakes not split hairs in the grey zone of a challenge… arsenal fans don’t have the case against VAR that they think they do, they have no evidence of a clear and obvious mistake.. people gotta stop projecting their standard for VAR into discussions

Someone interrupted Martin’s morning yoga……. As an arsenal fan: should Arteta be charged for comments? Yeah probably. Was it a goal for Newcastle? Doesn’t matter. The games done. It could have been disallowed three times or it could have been given. Thems are the fine margins in football. Do when need technology to help someone come to a subjective opinion? No. VAR is deskilling the officials to the point at times it’s almost the infield officials and the VAR in direct opposition. VAR at this point should be limited to goal line technology and off the ball incidents. When it’s delivering at a one hundred percents effective capacity then expand its scope as opposed to throwing a technology shaped rock into the pond and having no idea what directions the waves are going to go. Even if VAR had a defining say: for example the game carries on and VAR spots a foul issues virtually a red or yellow card on behalf of on field official and at the next break in play it’s awarded on field. There are many example of how VAR could be used better instantly but it almost seems that the powers that be have taken the most awkward, difficult ridiculous path each and every time. Take time wasting and the 100 minute games. That can be ended almost completely almost immediately by simply allowing physios to come on (as in rugby) when a player goes down. When there’s no advantage to lying down on the grass and rolling down one’s sock for no reason and in fact becomes a serious disadvantage the players will stop. BUT instead of stopping time wasting we will just allow the time wasting to carry on and add more time on which the winning side tjme wastes anyway!!!!

The problem is not that this particular situation was deemed goal, the problem is that in 9/10 other similar situations they´ve judged it as a foul and on this they did not for whatever reason. The inconsistency is ridiculous and if they judge this as a no foul why was others deemed fouling for the exact same thing the week after and before? I understand Artetas view completely because if it was only a ref then I can understand it´s not always reffed the same, but with VAR it should be the same every time. If this is a foul the other 9 times it should have been this time too
