I think it's somewhere in the middle. I think Arteta really loved Auba the person and striker, but this team is super young. Arteta wants to transmit a specific culture within the squad and Auba's behaviour was problematic and undermining everything they're doing. Trevor is trying to make it sound like they just threw Auba away because he stopped scoring goals, and Simon is making it seem like they felt money was wasted on him. I think they did it to protect the future of the squad. Auba is an amazingly talented player and I'm thankful for what he did for us, but the club made the right decision.

Absolutely...because football is just like the rest of life. The ultimate professional relationship is marriage. Two sides meet, they "fall in love" which is just a romantic way of saying two sides see mutual benefits in a partnership...but time passes, things change, and it ends. It's childlike to need to blame one side. We have seen time after time that players and clubs divorce...and fans (led by Simon-types) are like children blaming mommy for giving up on Daddy or daddy for not trying harder to keep mommy happy. It's silly. We're not children. Auba is great but Arsenal is going in a different direction..so he's moved on and has a great opportunity/challenge, while Arsenal has the fresh start and (I say this as a United fan) have a great young nucleus that if nurtured, challenged, etc can be something special. Trevor isn’t doing well here. This isn’t because of just one training session or a few sessions late. Don’t forget he turned up very late to a North London derby as captain. He went straight back into the team, stayed captain etc. This clearly was too many times and something has really upset Arteta and the owners and it had to end. Don’t forget, it’s been a complete culture change, very young squad, you need the older ‘leaders’ you do have to be just that. I’m sure Arteta would want nothing more for Auba to have been a leader, on and off the pitch scoring goals or not. He just unfortunately wasn’t.

I think both Trevor and Simon are too extreme on each view point. Simon thinks he’s this shocking influence and that is not true he’s had a lot of good luck messages on social media from teammates he was definitely a popular member of the dressing room and a decent role model in terms of performance on the pitch. Trevor thinks if you reintegrate him in the squad he’s going to bag loads of goals. If that’s true he’s going to have contradict a decline in form over the last 18 months I don’t see that happening and he is 32 now. It’s simply a falling out the Arteta and Aubameyang and the club have deemed it unrepairable so they have had to move on. The timing is bad and no replacement is poor but it was the right decision.
